You know Nisha…many of us remember the day you got Luis and what a precious little furry ball of sweetness he was. I know that you will make the best decision for him and your family when it comes to his care..you always have. Our furbabies are our children. Give him even more love (if that is even possible) and enjoy every second with him. Patti

Just my opinion: Let Louie be happy and live the life he knows. My dog is 14 and a true member of the family! No health issues but as long as she is not in pain or suffering I am letting her be. Once you take quality of life away, be it human or animal, the spirit dies. It usually doesn’t come back. You are probably thinking that nobody understands how much you love Louie and how much she is a family member. Believe me, most of us do. If you decide to let her be, don’t feel guilty for that or feel you owe any explanation to anyone. Public opinion be damned! Whichever decision you make is made out of pure love. That’s all you need to know. Sending best wishes and prayers from Massachusetts.💕

If Louis is happy and eating and playing that’s what matters. It is very stressful for an animal to be put out of their routine and operations don’t end with one visit as you know. By the sound of it he’s pain free now and don’t forget it’s a business for the vet and even though they have the skills to do the work necessary it’s not always best for the dog. Do what you FEEL is right. I send my love and feel for you 🌸

YES - I have had "kind of" this same sutation. One dog was 3, I spent thousands of dollars on a cancer that the vet felt that the chemo/surgery would be a 50/50 success rate. I did it, my dog was miserable for a month and did survive for an additional year. I didnt regret the surgery. Now, my next dog was 10 - was told he had cancer. I went with my gut and did nothing. He felt fine, running and playing. Then 9 months later it literally happened over night (3 days) he went downhill fast and passed. So, looking back both lived approximately 9 to 12 months but quality of life was better by doing nothing. Of course (before people come at me lol) it absolutely depends on every situation because let's face it - dogs are like people. Cancers are all very different and the response of healing is also different. Your gut tells you....either way it's a very tough decision. Your KZbin community is here for you - even way over here in VA- USA. Thoughts, prayers and love being sent your way.

We had a 17 yr old cat with a cancerous tumor on inside of lip and although unrealistic because of his age, I couldn't imagine life without him. Your first instinct is you just want to fix it and make it go away because you love them so much. So spent thousands as well on surgery, etc. at a speciality clinic. They were unable to say if they had gotten all the cancer, but they had to take out so much of his jaw that it was extremely hard for him to eat and seemed painful when trying. He lived maybe six months longer before we had to let him go because he seemed in so much pain and stopped eating. Looking back, I wish I hadn't done the surgery, especially considering his age, and gone with gut as to when it was time to let him go. But as you say, each case is individual. Either way, it's heartbreaking, but we know we only have so much time with our pets, regardless of how the end is.

Yes I fully agree, the vet that operated on my boxer to remove a tumour, told me that it really isn't nice to put a dog through chemo/ radiation,it makes them feel so poorly, and it doesn't always guarantee it will prolong their life that much more. I'm so glad I didn't go down that road, and as I told Nisha, my boxer survived 3 years without treatment, they managed to get clear margins so I was really lucky.

Our dogs never live long enough, and our heart breaks when they pass, but they give us the best years of their life, and I remember what my family members went through with cancer, and I believed when ours was struggling to get up and stagger over to us when we got home,.. the kindest thing was to put her to sleep. I scream cried and couldn't stop it coming out, but we cry for ourselves, we cry because we miss them, we cry because death is a parting and it's hard to bear, but you remember their best years and you have that for ever ❤❤❤❤

I know I would come to the same conclusion. I believe quality of life and your love is what is best for Louie. So many times we hear of vets who only see dollar signs because we are all ready to spend any amount, but then it's all to no avail. No guarantee at all. Just enjoy every day with him and be grateful you've been given this sweet and loving creature for however long it may be. All the best. ❤

This is so difficult Nisha. My heart goes out to you. I have gone through this with 3 pets. When I finally knew it was time to let go, it was gut wrenching. I had a vet come to my house because I couldn’t bear to have my pup trembling and terrified in her last moments. I petted her and told her what a good dog she was and praised her till the end. When she breathed her last, the vet said, “ and now, you can cry.” She comforted us by saying that so many don’t realize that if you are upset, the animal thinks they have done something wrong. It still brings me to tears to this day. All this to say, animals don’t think of the future. It is the right now that matters. If Louis is happy and healthy and eating and playing, I think your instincts are spot on to not have him suffer unnecessarily as he’s getting on in age. I had to let go when the quality of life was too hard for each of my beloved pets. Until that time,Louis has such a wonderful life!!! I hope this helps you. Sending hopes & prayers. 🙏🐾🐾💖💕💖

I am so very sorry Nisha. Just so sorry. You have researched and are informed and that will help him. I do think it's good that his appetite is good and he's happy. And the supplements sound like a good idea. You will know what to do. It does sound like the news is a bit better than you had expected. But I so agree with giving him the best quality of life you can. And you know, quality of life is something to consider. Especially if you got a not great feeling from them. Oh I'm rambling, I know. I just want to find the right words to make you feel better and to let you know if you decide against chemo that you know best and it might be the best for Louie. I just love you to pieces and am so thinking about you and mentally holding your hand. Much love to your little guy. Love, Melissa

Poor sweet Louie. 😢. I know you’re overwhelmed but I want you to know that my in-laws pup was diagnosed with bone cancer. They predicted he’d live maybe 6 mos. telling them there was nothing they could do. This was over 5 yrs ago and he remains cancer free. They took him off mass produced kibble and give him broccoli (everyday), no grains except the occasional whole grain, NO sugar, daily fish oil and mushrooms. “Real Mushrooms 5 Defenders immune strength”. You are wise to have researched your options at length. You are intelligent and loving and we know you’ll find the right pathway for Louie’s care. He’s a lucky little guy to have you & Paul. Prayers. 🙏🏻

Nisha, we just recently went through this with our dog. He was diagnosed with cancer in May 2023. He was 11 years old. Doctor gave him Prednisone and pain meds and he did well for 7 months. He started going down right after Christmas and quit eating. That was our sign to help him cross the rainbow bridge. He passed Dec 30, 2023. We are still missing him terribly every day but I was thankful for that 7 months to spoil him and prepare for the day that we would dread.Even though nothing really prepares you. Nisha, we had a beautiful, loved Jack Russell. To cut a long story short, when he was 10 years old, we were told he had cancer. There were no outward signs. It was found on blood tests he had when he went in for tooth extraction. Some markers were very high, so the tests went on from there. As I said, I am cutting the story very short. We decided against chemotherapy, as he was happy, playful, eating and drinking and toilet, all good. There was no sign at all of pain or discomfort or tiredness. After much thought, we decided against chemo. We decided to let him have quality of life over quantity. We decided that when his time came, we would know, and it definitely was not yet ! We were extra vigilant to watch out for any type of suffering that could occur. That dog lived a lovely life for another five years. Then he started to wind down. He became distant, lethargic and vomited a lot ( cancer or old age, who knows) on his last night, he vomited on and off for hours, no energy , in fact it was a pretty quick demise. We knew it was time and we were not going to allow any suffering for him at all, so we took him to the vet, held him in our arms and kissed and stroked his beautiful head. Within 15 seconds he peacefully passed. But without the chemotherapy and the vet visits, which he hated, he actually lived to a ripe old age, and a quality happy old age at that. You love Louis so much, I’m sure you will make the right decision for him.❤🌹

Hi Nisha, I very rarely comment but feel compelled to share my story with you. I’m so very sorry to hear about your precious boy. 😢 my little man, the absolute sunshine of my life was misdiagnosed. After noticing his glands were swollen I took him for a biopsy. Came back clear but in my gut I knew that was wrong. Asked for a 2nd one plus an ultrasound. As I guessed, positive for lymphoma. The ugly tra sound also showed a lesion on his spleen and a gut issue, which I can’t remember what it was now. I was at work when I got the call and was rudely told to palliative him. They said there was nothing they could do. He was 12 at the time and besides this diagnosis, was a very healthy, happy 12 year old. I was completely devastated and immediately rang my son who is a registered nurse. He met me at the vet to pick up my baby and told the vet that we wanted a referral to an oncology team. Well, my goodness! Absolute best thing we could have done. We were able to make an appointment for the following week. But the next morning he was very flat and not himself so off we went to the emergency animal hospital who immediately did and ultrasound and found he had internal bleeding from the spleen. The incompetent vet ignored that the day earlier. 😡. The lovely man told me he needed an immediate blood transfusion and we would worry about the rest once he was stable. I was able to see him in a couple of hours and he had definitely perked up. The vet confirmed the gut issues….something about sludge or something in I gut. He said let’s just not worry about that and keep an eye on it as it could well be an issue he’s been living with for years and may not be problematic. I still can’t remember the medical term for it. He was immediately put on a chemotherapy protocol which automatically puts dogs with lymphoma in remission. The odds were not what I liked to hear, though… 12 - 18 months at most. Now,I wouldn’t even consider putting my baby through chemo to get another year with him had I not been assured that dogs tolerate chemo much better than us humans. And I found that to be true. He was on weekly injections and daily meds which over time became less. 6 months in they found the cancer had returned. I was told they have 3 chances with a specific ‘rescue drug’ so we started a new round. This time he stayed in remission. It wasn’t all plain sailing but I absolutely have no regrets. He eventually came off all drugs and had monthly check ups. He gave me another 5 beautiful years of his love. The chemo had aged him, though. He needed to have teeth cleaned and removed due to the chemo. Yet still, he soldiered on. His eyesight went downhill and I became worried. I was assured dogs adapt to blindness very easily. He did. While he continued to be happy and showed no signs of pain, I was prepared to do whatever it took to allow him to stay with me. I told him daily that if he wanted to let go, it was ok. I couldn’t be selfish and make him hang on just for my own sake. He continued to eat well, drink, play and go for walks even though I noticed him slowing down. He developed a hematoma on his ear and I took him to have it lanced. Before doing so, I asked the vet to check his remaining teeth. They were all bad and I asked if he would be in any pain. Yes. So then and there I knew what I had to do. The little darling wouldn’t tell me. He didn’t want to. But I knew what was best for him, even though it wasn’t for me. He is my hero. He gave me a further 5 years after being diagnosed. Soi guess I’m sharing my story for you to have another perspective and something to think about. Perhaps you might like to give your baby a chance like I did and if at any time you find it’s not working, or he is suffering, then you know what to do. I haven’t yet watched this video. I jumped straight to the comments to see if my guess was correct, so I apologise if I’ve said anything that isn’t relevant to you at this time. I hope my story has given you some hope. All the best to you and the precious baby boy. 💙💙💙

Gosh! That must have been SO painful for you to write. Your love for your beautiful boy, shines through! He sounds like a real fighter-I really believe that animals sense 'you are in their corner', and I'm sure, your boy must have known that, too; YOU were his Hero! I hope you have some comfort, in knowing that. love sue xxx

Appreciate what you’re going Neisha….my Yorkie Rafa crossed the 🌈Bridge in August….he had a heart condition. Like you I researched everything & used lots of natural remedies, which were helpful. Have you tried CBD Oil (you can get it for dogs) helps them relax & also Rescue Remedy was helpful…..thinking of you, & yes, we do love them like children xxx 🙏🌺

@@Sue-np9fpthank you so much. You’re right. It’s still not easy for me to talk about. He was such a huge part of my life and I miss him terribly. I just wanted to share with Nisha to let her know that I understand what she’s going through. I’ve since watched her video and my heart breaks for her. I realise it’s a very personal decision and I’m sure she will do what she feels is best for her beautiful boy. I understand not everyone will take the same route as I did and like my oncologist said to me….there is no right or wrong way in this situation. Thank you so much for your kind and loving words! What you said was beautiful. ❤️

@@Vivienne147I’m sorry to hear about your little bubba. It’s such a heart breaking time. You mentioned CBD oil and I have to say I’m a firm believer in it too. My mum has her dog on it for arthritis and the difference it has made to her mobility is just amazing. My son who is a nurse manager also has his little man on it following back surgery which left him almost unable to walk. The CBD oil has made such difference to him, also. 😊

I don’t know anything about cancers in dogs but I’ve seen lots of positive videos about treating human cancer with the marijuana oil, high strength , maybe worth a read into. Keep strong lots of love and positive thoughts for the best outcome for Louie💜

Sweet, kind, empathic Nisha, you were such a blessing for me when I was having treatment in Sept-Nov 2022 for my reoccurrence of cervical. Your videos, and chitchat vlogs made me feel less alone, like I had a friend with me in those darkest moments. Nisha, you've helped so many of us by providing an escape from our own issues, so let us be an escape for you. Don't ever apologise sweet Nisha, you can vlog to us all your feelings and fears, and we will be here with words of support and love. Little man will get through this, and the natural way will definitely help his quality of life (Chem-Rads after effects are hard for a human, let alone a lil pup)... May you get rest, and peace.. Much love from New Zealand xx Victoria. .
