this is probably the most in depth shift kit vid I've seen on here. thanks

Hope you found it helpful brother. Whenever I do “how to” videos I try to make them annoyingly detailed so people know exactly what’s involved and don’t get stuck by surprises in the middle of an install. On a side note, I was finally able to get the servo out with the transmission still in the car and I covered that part of the install in the test drive video linked in the pinned comment on this video. 👍

Awesome video man!! Very helpful and informative! If there is anyone that still has questions I recommend transmission bench. They go over EVERYTHING, each year the trans was made, difference between the years, bolt lengths, shifts, friction plates, everything. But great video man hahaha a LOT different than building it in a living room 😂😂

I finally started to install this kit I've got everything done and all there is left to do is re install the valve body. Very keen to see the difference it makes to my shifts and also this video helped me alot so thanks for uploading it.

I was about to ask if anyone knows about that manual kit version! What about the torque converter, does it still lock automatically on 3rd and 4th gear at approx. 45 mph?
@johnward58903 жыл бұрын
Most people don't know of the 3-4 servo release hole in the transmission pan gasket area and if you get sealant in that hole your 3-4 servo will not release and will burn out your 3-4 clutch pack This is why transmission builders don't use silicon on the Pan gasket. best practice is just leave the gasket bare.

Hey buddy great video. I do a lot of transmission work . Specially the 60 . If you ever go back in it, I really recommend the pinless accumulators and .500 boost valve and the 2 5/8 wide band the smart drum with z-pack clutches with deep pan .
@BadLuckGarage5 жыл бұрын
The .500 boost valve was put in in the video brother. And as I stated in the video, eventually this trans will come out and will definitely be doing some upgrades at that point. 👍🏻

Brother there’s no reason for an apology. I was totally agreeing with you! Lol. I miss SteppinWolf, but not all the turbo problems. I really wish I would have just stayed with the nitrous on it. But hopefully Chaos Theory will get me my turbo fix pretty soon. And since it’s not gonna be a daily driver I won’t be so stressed out when it’s breaking all the time. 🤣🤣

Your video literally saved my ass, after tripping over a power cord while trying to get around a 38" tire, two choppers, a bucket of Dextron V and the mobile work table that had all my cleaned 4L60E parts laid out in exact reassembly order, in my 1.5 car garage. Parts went everywhere! I couldn't make heads or tails what went where after dealing with the aftermath. Please accept this Texan thankyou for taking the time to produce this extraordinary documentary. I get next to no help when it comes to vehicle maintenance, let alone trying to record my laughable efforts and know all too well what it took for you to make this YTV gem happen. You are a gentleman and scholar. PS: Are your shirts still available? All I got was a 404 File Error after the click.
@BadLuckGarage7 ай бұрын
Lol, I feel your pain brother. Especially the tripping over shit in a small garage part!🤣. I think SOME of the shirts are still available but what’s happened is I tried to price my apparel as low as I could because I just make them available because people asked for them and I really don’t make a profit…..I just wanted to make them affordable. Well Teespring has raised the production costs of their shirts so much that my cost has actually become MORE than the cost I was selling them for and so they made certain shirts where that threshold was crossed unavailable. So the only shirts that are still available are the ones that don’t cross that profit/cost threshold. I do plan to try to fix that but that will mean the shirts will cost a couple dollars more. I also plan to put up a few new designs as well. Again, I don’t push the apparel on people, I just try to make it available if someone wants one and generally only make like a dollar or two per shirt at most.

I just got done doing the Corvette servo upgrade yesterday on my truck. When ordering the servo, I seen the shift kit you just put in and was curious. I thought the ECM did everything? What this kit does, is it past what the ECM can do? Wondering because I also seen a kit that was a wiring harness with a ECM, probably for a stand-alone setup but claimed it was a shift kit also.
@BadLuckGarage5 жыл бұрын
Yes this kit goes way beyond what the PCM is capable of. You can adjust shift pressure and speed only to a certain point with the pcm. This kit addresses internal shortcomings with the transmission as well.

When I remove the plate I use a small neo magnet to keep the 1-2 accumulator check ball stuck to the v body plate ..

Hey, it's confusing on the 2-3 shift on drilling the hole to a .093 or not depending on how you read the instructions. I know you drilled it to .093 but on the instructions you can read it as ".093 is high-stall conv and full race is .101" OR .093 drill it out and High-stall conv or full race is .101 how would you guys read it? So if you don't have a Hi-stall conv just leave the hole alone? Or drill it to .093?

Look into the Sonnax pinless upgrades
@TheJaimePowell3 жыл бұрын
Next time try using the SONNAX PINlESS upgrade billet pistons. They are deeper with two seals and do not use the guide-pins. It is like $50 for all three. (1-2, 3-4, forward)
@BadLuckGarage3 жыл бұрын
I had considered them but I was trying to stay under a certain budget for this project. Otherwise I would have used them.
@minitrucker682 жыл бұрын
Just curious, if you do the transgo shift kit do you still flip the sonnax piston upside down? And do you still use the transgo springs?
@grassyfieldz45784 жыл бұрын
56:07 so you can just have all the check balls sitting in the valve body like that? that makes it looks much easier because I thought you had to stick them all to the gasket with trans gel and then attach the valve body which made me worry that the balls will move out of position while reinstalling the valve body definitely doing this to my 4l60e after watching this vid much easier than I thought.
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
All except for the one under the accumulator.
@CHASEPATTON4 жыл бұрын
24:38 Page 2 step 1 - I bought this same kit, my directions look the same as yours except that mine is labeled 4L60E-HD2-D not "-C" like yours. Anyway, my purple spring is so tightly wound that it has zero bounce and my plug sits in the valve body without trying to shoot itself back out. I called Transgo and they said I have the correct spring. Does that seem weird to you?
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
From what I remember the new spring didn’t really have much(if any) tension on the plug at all. So I think you’re good.

I wonder what kind of high stall for a 3 spacers like 3000-3200 or like 3400-3600 stall
@BadLuckGarage2 жыл бұрын
The spacers are just to make the shift harder and more noticeable. You lose that shift feel when running higher stall speeds. How much shift feel you want is totally a matter of personal choice.
@BigRig0035 жыл бұрын
So after the shift kit goes in, does it need the electronics to shift or can one just do it regularly without the electronics?

could i do all the upgrades without tweaking the valvebody separator plate.
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can change your transmission fluid,filter, and pan gasket without installing a shift kit. No you can’t install a shift kit without installing a shift kit. Lol. 95% of the parts for this kit go in the valvebody as shown in the video.

On the accumulators do I need a high stall converter to put the 3rd spacer in?
@huntert64524 жыл бұрын
Also what’s the difference between the $45 transgo shift kit and the almost a $100 kit that you have.
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
You don’t “need” one, but it’s gonna shift mega hard behind a stock converter if you do the full kill mode. The $45 kit is just a correction kit to address some known issues in the 4L60 for stock use. The HD kit is a high performance kit.
@huntert64524 жыл бұрын
Bad Luck Garage does the HD kit come with everything that the $45 kit has?
@BadLuckGarage4 жыл бұрын
I can’t answer that for sure because I have never use the shift correction kit which is the $45 kit that I’m assuming you’re referring to. But if you call trans go they will explain it to you I believe the HD kit addresses some of the problems in a different way than the shift correction kit does since it’s aimed more at high-performance applications. But some of the parts may in fact be the same.
