OMG I've just sewn a zip using this method and it worked. It was the easiest zip sewing I've ever done! I normally dread sewing them and I'd not used the continuous zips before. Thank you for explaining it all so well and for changing my zip making experience.

With placing so pulls off the edge, I just place a Safety Pin on both edges. It saves time having to tack the raw ends closed.

… and if you're very frugal or can't leave an extra 2 inches of zip without compromising the amount you have left… well, I just decided to sew the zip without cutting any off. It flapped about a bit but not so much that it got in my way at all. Then I cut it to the desired length leaving enough for the next project. 😉

So many great tips! Thanks jo. I’ll be directing people here who ask. An extra tip I learned from sewing zips into stretch fabric is if you tack/baste the zip by hand in (in a contrasting thread and similar line to where you’ll stitch on the machine) the fabric won’t stretch like it did. Of course with bags like you say it doesn’t matter but wanted to add incase anyone wandered how to stop it happening. Thanks again. Watched, liked and shared and super excited for your new bag!! 😎
