This was a great informative video. I've been wanting to try waxed canvas for a while but was afraid my donation wouldn't handle it well. I recently bought a cylinder arm industrial with a flat bed option so now I really can't wait to try!!! Thanks so much!! And I'm really excited Adam has joined you!!!

Sailrite in the US has great oilcloth like waxed canvas like M&M. That "oilcloth" isn't woven like duck because it is meant for sails on boats (old days more than now). Their canvas is topnotch

Great video. I’ve seen a lot of bags in fantastic coloured wax canvas, the bag makers have made it themselves, I think it’s messy but not hard to do. I have purchased from merchant and mills, I love their fabrics

Very interesting video. Really pleased that you answered one of my concerns when it comes to transferring of wax to clothes. Also I use an industrial machine, I just wonder if it's going to be too heavy for the fabric. Thanks

Thank you so much for the wonderful info about Waxed and Waterproof canvas. I was glad you went over the thick/thin types along with the many behind the scene issues with them both. I look forward to making that backpack and I think I want to use some type of canvas but am not crazy about waxed as It makes things looks so old/used. Am I the only person who thinks this way? I love to make all my bags/backpacks etc look like you just purchased them for the first time. When I see you crumble up the wax canvas my stomach becomes knots. But, with that said, I feel you are the best demonstrator and Pattern maker/Tutorial person ever. I look so forward to making many of your bags/backpacks for a long time. Thank you Jo, for everything you do!

I love listening to you Jo. Your videos are so informative and I'm really glad Adam has joined you. His voice is lovely too 😁. Can't wait to try your backpack. Thanks also for the link to the Aussie distributor for waxed canvas. It's so hard to find good suppliers in Australia so I'm going to check them out. Cheers from Melbourne.

I made 10 holdalls for members of my family and did not realise until afterwards how much the wax clogged up the feed dogs. I use a Janome HD9. It has no trouble with the wax canvas and I was really pleased with all the bags, but I will be sure to clean the machine more often.

How did you remove wax from the feed dogs. Thanks

I just picked it off with a toothpick. Keep an eye on the needle as well.

Wow, I love that fuchsia backpack...is that the color? So pretty 😍 Thank u for the informative video. This is great to know 👍 I use an industrial sewing machine so I hope the needle won't be harsh on it. Anyways, thank u so much! Looking forward to the pattern 🤗

How many yards of waxed canvas will we need to make the new backpack? (I’ll need to order ahead in order to have it on hand when the pattern is released.)
@CountryCowDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Good question. You will need just under a yard to construct the whole exterior from waxed canvas.
@scottmasson33362 жыл бұрын
Can I ask why you need to put in a waterproof lining as wax canvas is waterproof already. An uncoated liner should be sufficient.
@CountryCowDesigns2 жыл бұрын
Waterproof is just an option. Nice to have material you don’t need to interface and it’s very cheap

Hi Jo, I’m about to come to the end of my black dry waxed canvas and I can’t for the life of me remember where I bought it. I’ve been through all my historic purchases on Etsy, PayPal and eBay. I’m at a loss! Where did you source yours please? 😊

I was curious about this material but to me it sounds so unsuitable for bags, I don't want wax on my clothes or my machine, if any scratch is going to permanently mark it, having to re-wax it, having to keep it away from heat...
@CountryCowDesigns3 жыл бұрын
There are pros and cons. If you want the distressed look it’s worth a go but it’s not everyone’s taste.
@elmeradams87812 жыл бұрын
Why keep it away from heat? I can see not putting it in the washing machine.
