Parysatis is the third word in Xenophon's work "Cyrus' expedition", when he begins with the phrase: "of Darius and Parysatis came two sons : Artaxerxis and Cyrus." the anc. Greeks were obsessed with the Persians in the classical Era, just as they were obsessed with the Egyptians during the archaic Era. Speaks volumes as to how much admiration and fear they had of them.

When I spoke of fear, I meant that they were cautious about them, after all the Persians invaded Greece with the task of conquering it. Greek authors say that many Greek individuals immigrated to Babylon, to make a fortune working as warriors or strategists for the great King. Xenophon had to escape Persia after Cyrus' death. But the Greeks feared the Persians and that is why they raised multiple revolts against them in Asia minor, that is why they studied them closely, and finally why Alexander III (the great) of Macedon campaigned successfully against the great King.

An interesting experience of mine on this matter. When the movie 300 came out and all reactions of Iranians after, I checked IMDb (international movie database) website where there was arguments by many 300 fans saying why Iranians should act like this and it's just a movie, etc. What amazed me to see how great people the Greeks are was that I realized most replies to those complaints were written by some Greeks to support our Iran/Persia history rather than Iranians themselves! So, I agree. Greeks are very nice and knowledgeable, to say the least.
@panosa25026 жыл бұрын
+Massi We Greeks have deep respect for the Iranian nation which hails from the depths of history just like us. We have also our historical texts even from those times of huge confrontations (Greek-Persian Wars of 5th-4th century BC as well as Roman-Sassanid Wars of 6th-7th century AD) and our ancestors even if writing about "the Persian enemy" they still held Persians in great respect as a civilized nation. Persians too, we know, had expressed similar opinions, e.g. Cyprus the Younger was an admirer of Greek culture and the first Parthian high king actually added the title "Philhellene" to his full signature name. Beyond history, we often meet up with Iranians anywhere in the world and we keep getting the same experience : civilized, ultra-cultured people with deep education and a way of being not far away from ours.

In 1944 after the World War Serbia is back as one part who is now Macedonia. Greece did the biggest genocide to Macedonian people 2 000 000 was killed , assimilated and vanish. @vasiliki_R3 жыл бұрын
@@kohkuangtandaniel83 that's because English created from Latin which created from ancient Greek. The first European language was ancient Greek during 5000 years ago and a little more the second was Latin. Latin spread during Roman empire and affect all the other languages which most of them didn't have an alphabet so they adopt the Latin way of writing. Some languages change almost completely English was one of them some others kept their natural sound (like German) and some other add a few words and grammar rules which didn't affect the language a lot. I don't know how Malley look like Greek and Persian it probably have to do with Persian history they are closer to them. 🙂You can find some clear Greek words which doesn't came from latin those are word we use for terms that came from ancient Greek for example dymocracy the word you said Earlier. That's not anything like what ancient Greek sounded like. The phonology has evolved dramatically through the ages. If you want a glimpse into what Plato might have sounded like, listen to this reconstructed pronunciation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4DZh4qfediDjbM&lc=z22dhteymyafwludracdp433xftkt1ygsf2lun0aqepw03c010c.1572124812496698

You shouldn't think that :) Greeks and Persians are very very close, like good friends. That's how i feel at least. I feel the same with Egyptians, Syrians and Lebanese. When Greeks fought each other and some of them were expelled from their city, they used to go to the Persian king to seek refuge and he accepted them. Also when Greeks wanted information about many things, they used to go to Egypt to consult the Egyptian scholars and priests. 3.000+ years of history can't let us be anything but good friends.
@JavidShah2466 жыл бұрын
your kindness and wisdom have always been spoken throughout the history. even now, there are many refugees in greece seeking a way to europe countries and you are hosting them. my brother and my uncle included. they always speak of your people as the best people in the world. in that i can not be more agree with you.

Ancient Greeks and Persians were respectively polytheistic pagans and Zoroastrian idealists while the Greeks and Persians today both belong to monotheistic Abrahamic faiths so on some ways the cultures are closer now then they were then, but people only like to emphasize the differences.

I think age is beneficial in spotting similarities between languages. When I was 18 I had trouble with dialects within my own country. Now at closing on 70 I hear similarities between languages everywhere. A hear lot of Greek and therefore Persian, in Germanic languages. Very interesting.

Arrogant because he didn't know that? It can be hard to tell dialects apart in a language that isn't your mother tongue. He clearly knows about Greece and Greek, if not about other things.

You can't blame them. Hatred harbour's hatred. Yet blind emotion to me is idiotic. I could never hate a populace for what their ancestors would've done to mine. The thing I don't get is that other empires didn't give their enemies much of a chance, deciding to kill, pilage them instead or keep them as slaves. Although the Ottoman era wasn't sunshine and rainbows, it did allow these people to thrive for a period. Can't say the same for the Nazis or Japanese or the Romans, the British, Russians, French etc. To my knowledge the Armenians sold the empire and formed a plan to get a piece of the land at the descretion of the Russians? Don't know much about the greeks during this time. Probably was during the Independence war or the landing at smyrna (izmir)
