Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but if you pick draconic Bloodline Sorcerer, pick a lightning based one (Blue or Bronze) and level it to level 6 you get Elemental Affinity: Damage which "When you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, you add your Charisma Modifier to the damage." It's not a lot but with 20 charisma that's + 5 damage without needing to use wet

Something else to think about as well is the feat Elemental Adept Lightning and/or thunder. It removes the enemies resistance against that particular damage type especially useful for Lightning Chromatic Orb which will keep it relevant late game against tougher enemies who might resist it

if you multiclass and Have a lightning draconic sorcerors transmute a warlocks eldritch blast into lightning and add agonizing blast does it add the Charisma modifier twice?

@@Brnolan22 In actual DnD, this would work. The only bonus you cannot add multiple times is your proficiency bonus. I haven't tried this in BG3 but in theory i cannot see why it wouldn't work. So if you got your charisma to 20 whenever you use the transmute metamagic your eldritch blast would do +10 damage

Hey @@funnyimp5209, it's odd they didn't add it but as I mentioned to Brnolan22 I hadn't tried using Metamagic Transmute so I wasn't sure if it even existed in BG3. Still It's only useful if you want to use non thunder / lightning spells which honestly there are so many good ones that it doesn't even matter

you cant. in 5e u cant cast leveled spell as bonus action and as action in one turn. there is only one way to cast two leveled spell in the same turn - action surge.

@@88coolv oh, ho ho, you've fallen for my trap. Call lighting: "... On each of your turns until the spell ends, you can use your action to call down lightning in this way again, targeting the same point or a different one." You cast the spell as your bonus action and then use your action to call down another bolt, which is not casting a spell. This action use is called out specifically in the section about druid wildshape restrictions.

There's a mod that adds many of the spells from Kibble's, which has lightning spells at every spell level, meaning you can go Tempest2/Sorc10 rather than 5/7 for a spell like call lightning. There's no replacement for push back and being able to do max damage twice in a round at Tempest/Sorcerer 6/6 though

@@LiveAndLaughsI think the reason sorc is a bit better for level 1 is because you get your proficiency bonus added to constitution checks which makes it harder for your concentration to be broken if you get hit. (If your concentration breaks then any concentration spells get deactivated)

so i love this build but im wondering ... you show up to lvl 3 with lvl 2 cleric and lvl 1 sorc .... with max lvl being 12 do you go all the rest of the way with Sorc after or do you dip into Cleric any more later on for anything

Hello, I would suggest taking Cleric to 4 and sorcerer to 8, the reasoning for this is that to get the 6th level magic you need to be sorcerer level 12 so this isn't feasible however if you take Cleric to 4 and sorcerer to 8 you would in total get 3 ability score improvements instead of if you take sorcerer to 10 while leaving cleric at 2. The ASIs are useful for feats or bumping up your charisma to 20 to get the most out of the charisma bonus

How does the blue dragon bloodline compare against storm sorcery? I would think the additional hp and damage is more useful?

storm gets a fly bonus action after every cast and a guaranteed lightning/thunder hit on all nearby targets after any thunder/lighting spell cast. also you dont get access to the same spells. storm sorc can get call lighting while draconic sorc needs to rely on chromatic orb for basically the whole game.

@@SH1NK1R01 Call lightning and lightning bolt are both available to blue dragon, it's not exclusive to storm. Heart of Storm is good, but i think the additional lightning dmg from blue dragon is more useful as it's added to the main target/targets.

@@jasonsoh79 this is incorrect. sorc is not capable of learning call lightning without being in the storm sub class. you can check in game. all they get is lightning bolt at level 5. level 6 storm sorc gets call lighting forcibly added to the spell list as part of the sub class trait since it otherwise isnt a part of the sorcerer progression line

@@jasonsoh79 also the added damage from the bloodline passive is just the charisma modifier which at best is plus 5 damage per hit. yes that is good in a vacuum but the passive from storm sorc adds flat damage of 3 to everything in range of you and cant miss. meaning that on single target (unless you are super far away from the target) the storm sorc adds 3 damage after every storm spell while blue dragon gets a max of 5. this is already only a margin of 2 damage per spell and it loses as more targets are added. the way it stands now. for specifically focusing on just storm spells, the storm sorc sub class simply wins out. for all other element focuses draconic is better.

the best choice for sorc bloodline is red/gold dragon, coz there is a scorched ray. cha bonus applies for each beam.

@@MeLlamoBauti I would take Cleric to lvl 4 for the Feat. You only get Feats when a particular class hits lvl 4, 8, or 12.. so cleric 4 and Sorc 8 is one way to go

Both have advantages, Storm gets bonus movement while Draconic gets hp at level 1, then at level 6 you can get CHA bonus to lightning from Draconic while Storm gets a small bonus area effect. To get max lightning bombs from doubling damage so would Draconic be better while Storm edges ahead in utility over multiple fights.

I went with drow as I'm just a sucker for them. I did this build based off of d4's Master of the Storm build (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ianWm59veKqIe6s) for a DnD one shot and I'm basing my BG3 Character off of his guide. It is a little disappointing that there's no elven accuracy or transmute spell but the wet condition in this game kinda makes up for it.

As armor is gotten by cleric. Neither are actually that much better. But Githyanki can leverage all skill proficiency so they’re better than drow. Only other race that can compare in tactician to me is gnome for advantage on saves. But they have hair clip issues.

White draconic sorcerer is better because you get the same combo but also armor of agathy. It adds more damage and defense that also synergizes with wet.

it's a decent combo but keep in mind most of the time your sorcerer will be far and away from the frontline- armor of agathys only procs the damage on melee attacks so you won't get to use that often unless you purposely plan on soaking hits!

Yes. T Cleric gets Heavy Armor for defense and Sorc gets proficiency in Constitution saving throws for concentration spells. Most will go for the armor I think.

@@heqitao apparently, you'll get heavy armor proficiency even if you dip into cleric later - so there's no reason to start cleric here. sorc start for con saving throws is way too good.

Well cleric has raise dead but you are probably looking for a dedicated necromancer which sadly dnd has never really had… the closest thing is pale master but as it standa its not an option in bg3 and it isn’t really like say a diablo necro or anything close.

it is. alot of people are freaking over the nuke potential and armor proficiencies cleric gives but the reality is that this only realistically grants a single nuke on a target and the game offers many un armored options for classes like sorc to not fall behind in armor class so they dont really need the armor proficiencies as much as in tabletop. compare this to the basic and overused fighter dip. its got less spectacle but offers the literal same armor and shield options but instead grants action surge. a move that provides significantly more then anything storm clerc could hope to offer a sorc for both damage and utility

I'd just take a single level in tempest cleric to get heavy armor & shield + roleplay options. This way you still get chain lightning as a storm sorc. The channel divinity once per day for 2 lvl of cleric is not worth losing chain lightning IMO.

It sure as hell looks great on the video, but let's put some math there. Somebody needs to use the Rain, so that's one action. 2nd level spell is another action. You say it like it is "just" one spell, but truth is it is the whole all in what that character has (because you have one channel divinity). So, 48dmg in 2 actions is 24 per action. Paladin with greatsword 2d6 with fire (dip or magical) 1d4 using Smite 2d8 with rerolls is doing average around 20. 20*2=40. Not that much lower than 48. And paladin is not using everything he has, but Sorc won't squeeze that much damage until after long rest. Now the real power can be in doing this damage as aoe. But that has to be set up, you have to know the fight, skip dialog, etc. Although I am enjoying your content, I think it could be pointed out that playing blasters in dnd 5e can be challenging. For anything else than boss kills.

Paladin has higher damage yes. Fighter can probably do more. But that is not melee damage and they have no AOE capabilities, like you said. Not really that useful to compare sorc and paladin imo

I wanted to play this. But reading this and doing a bit more research. Are all these types of casters built around basically doing a long rest after every major fight? I don't mind having to setup with water , then lightning. But having to long rest constantly(and where would you get he supplies to do it) sounds annoying.

If you take quickened spell from sorcerer you can use rain as a bonus action. Something to think about

@@Handles-are-dumb no they are not build around long rests. You have the same amount of spell slots as a full sorc or wizard. Also you don't have to use the max lightning damage on a wet target. You can use it whenever you want. So you have the same amoutn of spellslots, and 1 llightning spell each short rest is maximized. It does not change the way you shoud rest. That depends a lot more on your total party.

the early game might be insane, but you won't be able to get a lvl 6 cleric spell slots which are incredibly powerful spells locked behind mono priest. Consider that.
