Good man Tom. I don't know why more people don't acknowledge the value of your input. I'm thinking of heading back to Bali again for 2-5 months soon and will check out these tips> Sharing a place could be fun actually and I hadn't thought of that. What are the best sites to look into that side of thing?

Hi Bill and thank you very much for the encouraging comment. For sharing a villa, the best tip I have is looking at Facebook groups like Canngu Community, Ubud Community, Seminyak Community, etc., there are postings in these groups all the time for shared arrangements. Good luck to you Bill and let me know how it goes!

Thanks for all the info. The wife and i are on the move to Bali. Where would you recommend to live, cooler, less humidity. got asthma. is there nice mountain villas.. surfing not as important as being able to be cool and breath hahhah
@inscrutableunscrewed
@inscrutableunscrewed 4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, really good question. With such a range of options as to areas to live in Bali, knowing what you *don't* want really helps you! So to be in a cooler area naturally go higher in elevation, and while it won't be "cold" even in Ubud there is a noticable temperature difference vs down here at the beach. If you don't mind being further away from the built-up areas, it gets cooler still in places like Bedugul, Kintamani etc. You'll have to explore this when you get here. Some expats really do want to get away, and find nice views and lower prices for accomodations. This means getting supplies might be more of an issue but maybe you won't mind--if you have a house you'll probably have help, and they can do all your shopping for you. The basic idea, and I've said this before and it's obvious I'm sure, but don't pay to be near the beach if it's not a priority for you. All in all, you might start in Ubud, which really is a sweet spot in terms of restaurants and most of what you might (or might not!) want, and as I say a bit cooler. You can easily choose how much busy-ness you have around you depending on how far you are from the center of the town. And if you're feeling ambitious, head north and see what you think! Good luck John.

@@inscrutableunscrewed thank you for such a great reply brotha. Ya I am a Hawaii boy so beach I can always go stay in a hotel on good swell. But live in the mountains. Get that peaceful river waterfall healing vibe. Then stay cation when it is firing with surf. Def will have a full time assistant and driver we are expanding our travel brand into Asia Hiadventuretravel.com HIyachtcharters.com. We are moving there from Cabo san lucas. Then. We will do half and half opposite low seasons.. my boy told me about those mountains towns too higher then ubud.

Thank you for your videos, Tom. I'm praying I can find my way to Ubud come the fall. Do you have any tips to share on when it's appropriate to begin looking for a space to live? I'm in a few Ubud housing groups on Facebook, but I know some people just make the move and then start villa hunting (which sounds terrifying lol)
@Wagefreedom
@Wagefreedom 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brianna and thanks for your question. My suggestion especially if you're coming later this year would be to do the research you're doing so you have a general idea of what's available and prices, but really, take your time when you get here. If you're thinking Ubud there are such nice places around--again especially this year there will be when it opens up. From cool little guest houses on Monkey Forest Rd to plenty of hotels at every price range. Not sure how long you're going to stay and it may sound strange, but even if it takes you a week or two in comfortable temporary accommodations like this imo it's worth it because you don't rush the process. At least you've narrowed it down to Ubud, which means you'll really be able to get a good idea of the lay of the land and a feel for the range of accommodations quickly. I hope that helps and good luck to you!

Hi Abdou-- Well as I say the neighborhoods here are all very different so Bali is really is one of those places where If you're going to stay a while it would be a good idea to check out different areas. Seminyak and Canggu are very popular nowadays. Ubud is great if the beach isn't that important to you. For a slower pace I have a buddy up in Lovina on the north coast of Bali . It's really worth getting a bike and looking around --fun too! Good luck to you.

I want to rent a two-bedroom Villa in Canggu early February to early March. The deals on Airbnb want you to pay the whole amount as soon as you book. Many of them seem overpriced. Should I book now or wait till I get there to find a villa?
@Wagefreedom
@Wagefreedom 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, well imo Bali in the low season is a situation where one should consider doing a little extra looking outside the Airbnb ecosystem which is sort of retail-ish and unnecessary here in Bali. It's easier since you've narrowed your area to Canggu. An idea is to join Facebook groups like Bali Digital Nomads, Canggu community, they are very active and people often post subleases for weeks or months, locals and property managers are posting too. Certainly you can put the word out in these groups too. I would say don't under any circumstances send any money at all, not even a deposit until you see a place. Do not do it. Scams abound. It may seem strange to come here for a month and not have a place booked for when you get here. If you don't mind being in a hotel room for a couple nights when you arrive you'll be rewarded. Again you're coming in the low season and there will be plenty of nice places. I would look now for background knowledge, and then starting two or three weeks before you come have a few places you can look at immediately when you get here. My guess is one of those places will be 'the' place, in any case you'll find a place in a day or two. Let me know how it goes Scott, I hope that helps you.

Hi LB -- Your plan of getting a hotel for a few days is a very good idea. Best not to rush and you will be rewarded for expending the energy and taking your time! And as I just told another comment-er here below I would definitely research before you come but don't put any money down or make any promises before you get here. I'd point you to this video too by the way: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6rUg4Brfrdlf5o Here is a good place to research for budget options: www.rumahkostbali.com/kos/tipe/bulanan.html Also check out Facebook groups like Canggu community, Ubud community, Seminyak Community, etc. You will get a good feel for what is out there. I hope that helps LB! Let me know if you have more questions.

Hello! Can I rent it out to someone else if I do a long-term lease with the owner?
@Wagefreedom
@Wagefreedom 5 жыл бұрын
Sure, though if that is your plan I would get confirmation from the owner beforehand that that's okay. Before we got into our current situation we did this three times, subletting houses from people who had long-term leases. I hope that helps!

Hey I'm just curious why you would directly go from 1 month to 60 months when negotiating. I would go from 1 month to 1 year and then from a year to 5 years. So why skip the yearly price in between, that just makes it more likely to end up with a higher 60month-price than if you would have gotten the info on the yearly price before
@workingfunnelllc2417
@workingfunnelllc2417 4 жыл бұрын
I like that idea, absolutely! It certainly might result in a lower per month price.

Hi Tom, I would like to work online. Do you know if Indonesia has Like Bali or Labuan Bajo has cable internet? My line of work requires it.
@Wagefreedom
@Wagefreedom 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Trina--- I'm not sure about Labuan Bajo. My guess is that really fast internet in 2019 will be hard to find there, if at all. Bali is definitely getting better, depending mostly on your location. ISPs are delivering fast service in Seminyak and depending on what you need you might find speeds in most restaurants to be fast enough for you. Even if you're further out, in Canggu etc., there are ways to speed things up, dual SIMs etc. Thanks for your question Trina.

I've heard that proper security is often hard to come by with many of these rentals. Is this true, and if so, is it really something to worry about?
@Wagefreedom
@Wagefreedom 5 жыл бұрын
Hi DMS I'd say that if you take normal precautions it's probably no more dangerous here than anywhere else. Having dogs helps as an alarm system and I'd get to know the neighbors too. Bottom line, the possibility of a break-in wouldn't prevent me from coming and renting a house, even way out in the rice paddies. I have friends in all sorts of situations and while I'm not saying that break-ins don't happen, because they do, none of my friends has had a problem fortunately. If you hear about an incident remember that there must be thousands of foreigners here with villas so again I think statistically the situation is relatively safe, especially if you take precautions. I hope all that helps!
