I have the Ripper blades on my mower now and I like them. I will be using them in the fall with the X-Blade system on my mower. I normally use the Razor blades for grass cutting. Good video

WOW! I have yet to wear out the lift portion of a blade. I am in fescue country and probably gut a lot higher than you and folks cutting urban lawns. Our soil is clay with shale and iron ore and some sand, but I cut well above ground level. Now, I do hit a rock or two on occasion. Ventrac commercial blades have long life.

My gold set only has about 25 lawn cuts(some lawns 10min up to 50min) on them so far with 1 time sharpening in-between so their pretty new, they seem pretty good so far. Time will tell for me how long they last. The razor blades I put over 150 lawn cuts on and I could still use them and have them as a backup. I would definitely buy the razor blades again.

I had the same happen with a set of ballard hi rise(high lift) blades. The lasted 20 hours, and they were shot. This year.

Same here. I run a very small company part time, 15 lawns per week.. I'm sharpening the high rise blades like every week. The ripper blades however have lasted A LOT longer.

The ripper blades are designed for mulching. You should use the High Lift for mowing.
@GwinnettLawns9 ай бұрын
Nope not for our grass type high lift are no good. Medium lift work best and the ripper blades are the best we have used after testing many different blades.

Nice review however they claim these gold blades were supposed to be tough yet they lasted the least but i will try the x blade setup with their standard razor blades I'll see how they work thanks that kept me from getting the gold and wasting the money 🎉🎉

Which Ballard blade do you feel decimates the grass clippings more, the Gold hybrid or the Ripper blade? I'm in Rhode Island and like you, I'm also running the Green Guard Chute blocker. My goal is to create the smallest grass clippings possible and minimize any amount of double cutting. Would you recommend X blading the Gold hybrid blade?
@GwinnettLawns7 ай бұрын
I like the ripper blades for our Bermuda grass and cutting at 2" since they are medium lift. The gold hybrid are a high lift and that is not as effective for Bermuda but awesome for leaf mulching as they suck the leaves up faster. You will need to try them both and see what works best for the grass you cut. I would not recommend the x setup as you gain nothing over single blades.

I wonder if using these blades with the x blade adapter would yield better results in terms of cut quality and longevity?
@BrettKorpela4 ай бұрын
maybe cut quality, but you would think they would suck up more soil, which would not be good for longevity.

There are awsome blades I use them in the fall to do leaf cleanups and mulch because they’re high lift. During mowing season, I use the ripper blades because their medium lift and high lift blades are no good for Bermuda grass..
@KDlGG6 ай бұрын
From what I’ve heard the Ballard blades have more lift than other regular blades. That being said your soil type and having Bermuda high lift definitely isn’t for you. Tbh I don’t even see many people running mulching blades in southern grass types besides st Augustine, you’d likely be better off running mid to low lift blades
@GwinnettLawns6 ай бұрын
The Ballard Gold hybrids are high lift, the Ballard Ripper blades are medium lift. So far the ripper blades are the best we have used and work perfect in our Bermuda.
