That guitar solo hits like a "2 ton heavy thing"! I have been blown away by the ever-evolving and constantly-growing Band-Maid, but there is something about the emotion in this song -in that guitar solo which is pure emotion! Few artist can create such magic. Kanami is one of the few!

Funny you mentioned Saiki having more vibrato in this song, that's because before this song was recorded, she had surgery to remove the polyp in her throat. She couldn't do a vibrato before since the the polyp was getting in her way, and she couldn't do a clean falsetto as well. It's all thanks to her surgery, a very well done by the doctor managed to retain her vocal essence, that she sang beautifully in this song and also the songs after this.
@realdocloco3 жыл бұрын
A polyp doesn't prevent to use vibrato ("getting in the way" - seriously? Did you ever seen what vocal cords polyps really looks like?) - never heard of that in any of their interviews anyway, I'm afraid you're overthinking and dramatizing the story. The polyp was causing her voice to tire and become hoarse quickly, nothing related to her vibrato. About her falsetto, she didn't know the technique untill Miku showed her, that's why she wasn't using it.

Thanks for the info. I was lead to believe that this condition could have ended her career?

This is beautiful power ballad. Kanami's riff and guitar solo is one of my favorite. Definitely has some U2 (The Edge) vibe
@Dtagcity3 жыл бұрын
10:11 Spot fcking on! The vibe of this song is great already but that Solo is a masterstroke. Just that section alone puts this in my top 10 all times ballads, bar none. The way that solo comes in makes me relive every moment where I had to grit my teeth and clench my fists hard, barely holding in the intense emotions almost overwhelming me. And every one of those moments had been life altering ones for me. This is why I never looked up the lyrics just so that I could retain this familiar desperation in its rawest form every time I hear that solo. This feeling is both a memory I treasure yet also a warning and a constant reminder to me. Definitely a track that I have very strong personal attachments to, and I can sort of understand why this is also a fav of Kanami herself. I’m sure she poured her heart out on that solo. I don’t think you can write a piece like that if you’ve never experienced such a desperation.

This and “Endless Story” made me so disappointed that there wasn’t a big ballad on Unseen World because Band-Maid has a way of writing these fantastic, catchy rock ballads that I haven’t really heard since like maybe “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. And then they drop “About Us” and it’s one of the best things they’ve ever written and it isn’t on Unseen World. I really wish they would drop an EP of just ballads. Mentioning Akane trying not to smile reminded me, that most of their videos tend not to have them smiling, or looking like they are having a good time. And I think that's SUCH a waste! One of my favorite videos from them, simply on the video aspect of it, is "Don't you tell me" because of the bits of personality you get from them during it. Akane stealing snacks, Mincho falling into Saiki's lap as Saiki pushes her off, MISA stealing some drinks when no one is paying attention, and Miku drawing a cute heart on the food she's serving. When you see the live stuff with the crowds? They are smiling and having a good time with each other, and it makes you love em all the more! It just feels when they are trying to be serious in a video, that's it isn't them at their full potential, and I'd love it if the one making the video concepts for them realized it. Still will watch anyone of their videos at any time, mind you.

This is how Saiki started singing sad songs on karaoke for her mother as a child on snacks run at a small bar. But you didn't mention those incredible harmonics Kanami did. This is Band Maid's lament for a lost love, up to the solo it is a longing feeling, the solo is a scream of pain for that which is lost but still remembered. Miku's vocal immediately after is an affirmation that love is still there even if it is no longer requited if it ever was. Then as we go to the final chorus and outro you feel the pain of loss and the acceptance that that love is only in dreams now.
