Miku Kaboto, vocals, rhythm guitar, band founder writes the lyrics. She highly respected for her lyrics with many considering her to be a poet. The reason the English Subs at times seen to be off is language. Asami, Lovebites singer and lyricist gave an example of language in an interview. She said, the word Yes in Japanese has 3 syllables. So English is used to maintain lyrical flow and control the length of the song. As to the Maid costumes, Miku from the beginning designed them and early on made them. The costumes are worn for the entire year and cleaned after every concert. Today Miku still oversees the design, but a fashion stylist now days makes the costumes. Each member has input for skirt length and other details. Last thing - They call the costumes their "Battle Armor"!!!

They started in 2013 and have had 8 different main uniforms, all used in different MVs. They tend to wear them until they wear out, so it depends on their activity. E.g. their 7th uniform was worn the longest, because it was in COVID times and they couldn't tour. The one you see in this video and the Thrill live video (COVID / no audience) is the 7th. Their first were all almost the same, but they started to diversify heavily from the 3rd one. Their current one (8th) is a bit over 1 year old, and they will probably transition into a new one at the end of their 10th anniversary tour this Sunday. They also have some special uniforms, like the red uniform that they alternated with their first one (you can see this in the Thrill MV), a plaid style (only for a short period, no MV), the traditional Maiko uniform (see Secret Maiko Lips MV and Gin-cho MV) and the Christmas acoustic "uniforms" (e.g. Catharsis MV and Sayonakidori MV).

If I am remembering correctly it was the first time these "Battle Uniforms" were worn. As the previous day they had worn their older ones, then switched to the new one for the final concert of their 2019/2020 World Domination Tour. During Omajinai Time, Miku mentions that these were their new uniforms as Kanami shows hers off.

Koality, I have a song by Band Maid that you should react to. That song is "Puzzle" The recent live video of the Band from their Tokyo Garden Theater is an awesome video. Please pull up the closed captioning from the video so you know what Saiki, the lead vocalist is singing about. Then, if you have the time, react to the live acoustic version of "Puzzle" from a concert a few years earlier at the Tokyo Zepp theatre. It's the same song with the same lyrics but with a completely different feel>Thsi song really shows Saiki's, (and Kanami's) versatility as a vocalist.

All the outfits are based on Maid Cafe uniforms that Miku worked in before the band started. Thrill was very early so it was short and red and now as they have been going for ten years their uniforms have changed and become very stylised to the individual member. Many of the songs have this call and response which is wonderful to listen to. Great performers and needless to say expert musicians who just keep getting better.

Saiki's (lead singer) outfit has evolved over the years but this one is my favorite. They pretty much change their outfits every tour, mostly Saiki and MISA (bassist). Saiki also suffered in the early years of Band-Maid with vocal cord polyps to where she sounded terrible and struggled towards the end of shows. Being scared to go through surgery to remove the polyps she finally agreed to surgery in 2018 after she lost her voice. She can now sing all day with no issues, her voice is very strong and I swear she has three lungs because she never takes a breath......maybe she can “Breath through her eyelids like the lava lizards of the Galapagos Islands.”.....Lol! Saiki had her vocal surgery in Late June/Early July of 2017. You can hear how much better her voice is in their November 2017 Studio Coast Shinkiba concert.

They do change their maid costumes occasionally. They have said in interviews that they hand wash them after each okyu-ji (serving or concert) because they have only one costume each. They are replaced when they cannot be washed anymore, or when they think it is time for a new look.

Thank you for your wonderful comment. There are many talented players of each instrument in the world. The playing ability of each instrument in this group is at the top level in the world, but it is not a genius technique. But the most amazing thing is that you can make each instrument sing. It's amazing because it's the whole group. The feelings of the performer are expressed in the instrument. A group is a collection of these things, so it excites the listeners. The singing is great, and the group members themselves are having fun playing. Look at their facial expressions while they play. Therefore, Bandmaid is currently one of the top rock groups in the world.

Fun reaction. These girls do like 25 of these songs in a typical performance. They're monsters. The lead singer does take a break for two or three songs. (She probably needs the rest from walking around the stage in four inch heels.) By the way, their outfits evolve over time. and seem to change significantly every two or three years. Originally, when they were all in their early 20s, they wore short skirts. In their 30s now, they have more modest and complex outfits.

For me their official translations (in the captions) are always really good! (I feel like they think so too, and that's why they have them turned on by default.) Fan translations are great for the effort they put in helping other people understand what the song's about, but I feel like a lot of the time they aim for more technical, literal translations that don't necessarily convey the same overall meaning or feel, and just don't read well as song lyrics. Translation is tough, ~especially~ when it has to work as poetry in a completely different language, so I really appreciate when people manage to nail it - whoever's doing it for the maids is doing a great job

Quite simply THE best band on Earth. Think that's everything covered. Oh, OK then, here's some Easter eggs from that MV...At 5:05 - MISA, the bassist, Kanami the lead guitarist and composer, and Miku the rhythm guitarist and founder of the band, are playing Hengao - "strange faces" - with Akane the drummer, which is making funny faces to try and put someone off. Akane, of course, laughs along while not missing a beat. It shows the ladies' confidence in each others' abilities that they can fool around like this while all of them slam out note-perfect Rock at full tilt. At 5:54 - MISA the bassist is holding her plectrum in her curled finger so she can produce it and switch from slapping to picking in half a nanosecond! At 6:32 - Akane the drummer hitting two separate beats on her double kick pedals while simultaneously continuing the song melody on her snare, toms and cymbal. At 11:07 - a brief glimpse of Kanami laying down one sweet rolling chord pattern - pure class. PS Gotta say, you have amazing cheekbones - very beautiful.

Yes, they change the outfits for every tour. The first three to join were onboard with the Maid Look. The last two to join, not so much. So even from their first OMV 'Thrill', they were something Dark & Different. Everyone had a black outfit and a red outfit, but their's were a darker red. And the longer the band went on the less Maidlike their outfits were. The more you watch them the more you'll notice that MISA & Saiki, The Darkness Sisters, have a little different attitude from the others and give BAND-MAID their edginess. As far as suggestion, you have to know what you like and tell us. BAND-MAID are all over the map. They aren't stuck in a genre. What do you like? Hard, Soft, Heavy, Traditional Acoustic? What are you into? However, try 'Real Existence' for a LIVE, or for an OMV try either 'Unleash!' or 'Shambles'. You can't go wrong with any of them. And don't forget their April Fool's Day alter ego, BAND-MAIKO.

My Recomendations for the next 3 songs for you are - Freedom live - Real existence live - Moratorium live.. Strap yourself in for these 3 it's a wicked ride.. If you Dare, Please also take a look at Reincarnation live by a band called Aldious.. Judging by your clothing coments and love of this type of music I think you will really like them. This song has a blend of Accoustic and electric twin solo metal guitars infused with classical and metal violin and thundering drums, all wrapped up with a silky smooth haunting voice... I second that emotion. Aldious is a unique band, name is a contraction of Ultimate Melodious. Melodic metal is the idea. They have had 3 fulltime singers, the one they have now, Maki Oyama, is in high demand and doing several projects. Reincarnation was written by the second vocalist, Re:NO who has a voice more ethereal than strident. I first found them during her era.

Hi Jenna! I agree about the "anthem" aspect. "Thrill" was also an anthem - "we won't take the straight road, we're in it for the thrill." This one is from the "World Domination" album from 2018 (the performance is from 2020), and they have another anthem from the "Unseen World" album from 2021 called *"Manners."* It describes how they approach their music - "Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"

This is the one song I had heard before seeing them live with The Warning in Roppongi last month and I was glad they played it live that time as well so I had a chance to participate more :) If I'm honest it's a band I might not listen to recorded much, but if I get the chance to see them live again I will because damn was that a rockin' show! Every time it was Hello time I belted it out with gusto and any participation time in other songs I tried to do it as well because it was so much fun!

It's obvious from the comments how many new names among the fans they now have outside of Japan. Touring the US during 2022 and this year has really paid off for them- they deserve it so much. BAND-MAID created the translated lyrics and added them to the video. If they sound weird, that’s because Japanese. KOBATO said she created new outfits as their current ones wear out while touring. In the THRILL MV, they are all wearing (“sexy”) maid outfits, but MISA and SAIKI were never into the maid image thing, so they eventually switched to the styles you see here. AKANE later replaced her skirt with trousers more appropriate for drumming. Try the live stream version of MANNERS+BLACK HOLR, and their latest single/MV, SHAMBLES.

Saiki's Maid aesthetic is based off a Spanish Style Maid While Misa's has been based off of a Chinese Maid aesthetic. Akane has moved to more of a Butler's aesthetic for functionality with drumming (RIP Tiny Hat) With Kanami adopting a more classical English Style Maid to Miku's more flirty French Style Maid look.

New sub here. Delightful reaction to the best proper Rock and Roll ensemble touring today IMO. Believe me I know that is a crazy statement. But at age 66 I've been there for some incredible rock music. These women remind me of the Beatles in personality and ability to be goofy and magnificent. Also every freaking song EVERY SONG either is a bona fide hit or is a candidate for favorite song status. Absolute mighty monsters of musical unity. Riff after riff keeps coming - far more than most stingy bands release during a whole album. Not afraid to meld and mesh punk pop with proper rock and anything else that fits the song. The lyrics on the video are the official English lyrics added by the band/label. KZbin is incapable of a real-time translation of a song. The music on top of the vocals alone makes it impossible , but the real problem comes from words being sung at different speeds, being stretched out to fit the music, etc. Most of the time the captions simply read *[music],* or say nothing at all, if you try to translate in real time. The maid costumes have changed and evolved over the years to fit each members personality. They normally change their outfits only when the old ones wear out. What's really crazy is each member only has 1 outfit. Just one. Because of the pandemic, the outfits you see them wearing here lasted for several years. This was the last live performance of BAND-MAID for the next two years, excluding a few on-line concerts. They now have new, yet similar outfits to the ones seen here.

Japanese doesn't translate easily to English, thus the term Lost in Translation heavily applies. Yes finding a good transition helps but I find when listening to Band-Maid as a new fan, it helps to think of Opera and listening to Saiki's voice as 5th instrument. The way it works within the context of the music, weaving it's way in, around and throughout the melody of the song as well as her harmonizations with Miku's voice. And Yes the song is an Anthem an Invitation and a Call of sorts. (What the straight translation won't tell you) That they get it, they've been there, they understand. That through all of Life's ups and downs, the heartaches and heartbreaks, let downs and disappointments; to not give up or give in and keep striving for the best within you for a better tomorrow. If you do that a world of unknown possibilities will open up. That's where they are, and that's where they're going, join them. That they (via the positivity of their music) will help you to get there too. When you do, the greeting...Hello! "Destiny of Soul, where are you? Even if you're far away Hello Hello Hello" Not giving up and not giving in is a very common theme in their music. As it relates to all of their struggles to get where they are today. Dan Dan Ditti Dan Dan = onward and upward little by little or gradually.

The girls get new designed personal outfits each tour. Misa hated the maid thing so she wear a variation of what the call the barefoot assassin maid. Saiki's Maid outfit is based on tradition maid uniforms from Spain Akane Now wears like a butler's outfit with shorts as it makes playing drums easier than a skirt. So Kanami and Miku have been wearing variations of the traditional French maid outfit.
