Is there a good way to do this for people who bench around 360-400lbs? I can get decent enough resistance with other positions like handstand pushups with my flak (vest), but I want to specifically do flat.

Band push up not efficient as bench press, its not even close. Bench press is the best exercise to build muscle

@@hafidzmohmar5620 to be more specific it's an incline dumbbell press. The full stretch and range of motion is the best way to build muscle. These band push ups would be amazing with push up handles for the extra range and resistance.

Today I just tried for first time using the strap for push ups and I could say I had so much better balance on my push ups between the two hands. Felt good

What Mark is completely missing is that the band push ups work much more of the kinetic chain. Benchpress is far more of an isolation exercise. I have been working out systematically for 31 years for several sports, including kickboxing and MMA. There is absolutely no comparison between band push ups and benchpress when it comes to training how to move the body as a unit through space for sporting applications. This is true of bands generally.

Bench press lacks the stabilizer muscles. You get strong with resistance push up , you be strong on bench. It does work the other way .

Thanks for this video, it’s the only one which covers many techniques of using the band for push-ups with clarity and the many advantages. Typically those are two separate videos. Personally, I struggled a dozen times over 3 months to use the band for push-ups since it’ll come lose and hang on my neck which is unexpected, but using 3 rubber-coated metallic wires (the one which ties on a bread packet in Walmart or HEB) on my band I was able to create four parts and then I’ll sneak in my hands in the 2nd and 3rd part to make it work for push-ups. It’s an improvised technique but as effective as the 8-shape suggestion you made in the video.

Compared to just having a weight on my back, this doesn't really hit my chest that much, but it absolutely fucking hammers my shoulders. Is this normal? My form is extremely strict.

Yeah, that can happen since the most resistance isn't when the pecs are stretched (at the bottom) which is why a drop set can be helpful (or use a plate like you mentioned).

I have the tube type bands and connect the ends with a carabiner to create a loop. I tried the variations here, but no matter what I do, the band slides down my back after a couple reps and ends up below my lats. Very frustrating.

You have to get a set of flat bands for that reason. You need both.

Were the trainees in the study doing band resisted push ups before? They were probably already doing bench presses before, so the comparable gains from doing using bands might've just been due to it being a novel stimulus

studies has shown that novel stimulus doesn't help gains, so yeah, bench presses and band push ups are comparable.

So I started doing these a few months ago with the weakest resistance band I have, and I was able to increase my max reps. To progressively overload, is it possible to do a planche pushup resistance band variation to make it harder? I'm currently trying to achieve a front lever.

Hey E3 could u make a video about shoulder SLAP tears?! would be very informational with the weightlifting approach u guys have. Most channels do not give advice on stuff like: Can we deadlift? Should we even overhead press, or maybe only landmine press. Should we be doing barbell bench?(nope), perhaps it could be interesting!

Mine always ends up sliding down my back whenever I try doing it. I tried both positions too is it possible that the bands can be too big?

Try doing them with raised feet, that way gravity can't pull the band down the back, you may encounter the oposite problem of the band sliding up the back, but that can be prevented by ensuring that the band runs under, not over the arms.

You can gain muscle with bands you don’t always have to use weights you will last longer with bands weights tear your body down

Have a winging scapula.I already strengthen my rotator cuffs with band rotations and try strengthen my midle and low traps with rhomboids. When i perform pushing movement like dumbbell press with fixed scapula or push ups with freely scapula i always hear crepitation in my shoulder(in particular range of motion).Only one stuff that go nice is standing cable press and pec fly machine.What could be the problem(scapulohumeral rhythm goes wrong?).

get push-up handles and try doing it with those. they are designed to keep your wrists straight through the movement and should decrease strain. they might also increase the difficulty a little, since you have a larger range of motion on the handles, which may or may not be an additional upside.

I don't get it. If, as the vid shows, you get similar strength gains with band pushups and BPs, why can't the band pushups replace the BP? You can achieve progressive overload with bands as you can with the BP. Just add bands. I've been doing pretty heavy Bench Presses for years. Doing pushups with a 175lb resistance band is as hard or harder, and you can add a band to that! There's heavy resistance throughout the entire range of motion. So, why can't they replace BPs??

My issue with band push ups is that the resistance is either too weak or too strong. I have yet to see a video with someone demoing the movement with band resistance that looks like it is challenging.

Do it with the green band. Try to work up to them. If you dont think it's hard enough, you simply arent doing them hard enough. Add multiple bands ect.

I'm confused. You tout the virtues of band resisted push ups, then present peer reviewed proof that pushups are as effective as bench press for strength for building strength and then you contradict yourself by saying that banded pushups can not replace bench press. Please elaborate.
