As someone who has watched hundreds of reactions videos regarding Jinjer over the last couple of years, this is refreshing for me as well, because somehow I got so "used" to the (still brilliant!) performance of this song at Wacken 2019 that in a way I almost forgot they have performed this song many times live since then. So thank you for your insight and thanks for showing a different live version of this beautiful song and the brilliance that is Jinjer as a band live.

You MUST MUST MUST review TEACHER TEACHER to hear the musicianship of this band. It's completely insane. I recommend the official video for sound quality. The lives are spot on but the studio recording let's you hear everything. Plus it's a compilation of "live" performances.
@jonathantaylor30742 жыл бұрын
Glad you finally posted this reaction, even though its not live a Wacken. Was not expecting you to pick up more on the band in comparison to just Tati. There is quite a bit in "Pieces" which showcase their skills. Odd time signatures and what I would consider jazz influence sections. Good stuff. Im sure you have gotten more song suggestions, but here is mine. 1. Judgement & Punishment- if you want to hear these guys do some "reggae" 2. Home Back- if you want to delve into the Russia/Ukraine war(nothing new to the band). probably written between 2018 & 2019

@j.f.fisher53182 жыл бұрын
As others have said, the focus on the whole band is appreciated. Their early songs had a rhythm guitarist but he got a chance to act in ca late 2014 and took it. They couldn't find a replacement that fit the chemistry of the band so since then, the other 3 have basically split his contribution to the music between them. It creates a unique sound and gives each of them more opportunity to shine creatively. The switching between cleans and growls is impressive, it's a matter of coordination between the vocal cords and vestibular folds. Despite Tatiana saying she doesn't really practice, I call b.s. on that - especially how much her voice grew during lockdown. I think she doesn't practice but is just always singing so yeah. Teacher Teacher is awesome. The live in Melbourne shows Tati rapidly switching back and forth live whoch is awesome, but Eugene's bass is really low in the mix which hamstrings their sound on all the Melbourne versions. Vortex at Hellfest is great even if it wasn't in front of a crowd (virtual festival during lockdown). Who Is Gonna Be The One has really impressive musical composition while focusing mainly on Tati's growls - I especially love the dueling guitar and bass. WIGBTO was originally released in 2014 with the rhythm guitarist in the mix, but the re-composed it to work with just the 3 of them and its the only song from the Cloud Factory era that they still play in concerts, especially in the US where the protest theme is popular with US fans.

A couple notes on Vlad, seeing as he's caught your eye... When covid hit, the band naturally had a break & Vlad, the newest member of the band & classically trained, effectively wrote the new album (Wallflowers) - all but one track. His musicality is all over it, clearly inspired by classical music & very progressive. I recommend reacting to a track of that album (Vortex, Wallflower, Pearls & Swine, Dead Hands Feel No pain... Any really apart from Colossus, which Eugene wrote). Secondly, more so in earlier tracks, he likes to play holding his sticks by the thin/head end to give the sound a bigger punch. From memory think you can see that in Teacher Teacher. I recommend watching a drum walk through video at somepoint to see him at work!
@bobcieslinski2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott! I’ll add those ones.

I've watched their "live from Wacken 2019" performance of this song several times, but I've never this video. Tatiana, the band and the audio all sound great, but I think I still prefer the Wacken performance. I noticed a couple minor issues with Tati's vocals in this performance versus the 2019 Wacken performance....there were a couple quick instances where her pitch was slightly off, her clean singing sounded slightly more forced/fatigued and she took an extra near the end of the long melodic "aah" phrase during the slow section, all of which were not present on the 2019 performance (which was the last song of their set). Maybe it's just fatigue from the tour or her voice wasn't 100% that day (I've had many of those days!), but my fear is she's developing some minor vocal damage due to her admitted years of smoking and lack of specific care for her voice or preparation prior to singing....maybe I'm just paranoid because I'm a huge fan of Tatiana and the band. I just saw them last month at the House of Blues in Boston and they rocked the place, but I was about 30-40' from the stage and the sound system was so f-ing loud that the music sounded distorted so it was hard to hear any details of the performance (I believe I may have old abused ear drums from decades of playing loud rock music because I eventually moved to the back of the venue and it sounded much clearer).
