It’s not just slugs but the entirety of phylum Mollusca. And it’s not a parody they speak the prophecies that shall come to pass. Mullusca be praised.
@evolving_dore6 жыл бұрын
And for anyone wondering, malacology, the study of molluscs, is a legitimate field of biology. It encompasses gastropods like slugs and snails, bivalves like mussels and clams, and cephalopods like octopi and squids. They have their own international conferences and everything.

I just listened to this last night based solely on the cover and was shocked and how rad this record is. I agree with the Gojira comparison and I hear some Mastodon in there as well but it's not so derivative that it takes you out of the music. Definitely think this will get some major plays in 2018

Mostly agree with your review, except about the lyrics! If you're a reader of science fiction as I am, you'll appreciate the effort gone into crafting these tales told through verse, about imaginary worlds, beings, and monsters, to go along with the pounding, crushing death metal riffage. It's one thing to have a brutal sound of despair weeping from an electric guitar, but overlay it with words such as "...And the last bastion of light shall fall into ruin Once besieged, the walls shall liquify beneath The force of Rhaexorog's harrowing screams" And you give some further weight to the shreddage. It definitely adds another dimension to the experience for me, and I think the band's inventiveness should be recognized. Yeah, it's death metal, and growling nonsense is acceptable (see Cryptopsy), but when a band puts attention into what they write, it makes a noticeable difference in the tone and delivery of the music, I think. I think the theme is really fun with Slugdge. PS... thanks for pronouncing "Slugdge". I was trying to pronounce it as "sludge" but with an added G. edit: nevermind, you taught me wrong. Matt from the band pronounces it like sludge. Just say "slug" but with a "dge" at the end like you're saying "sludge".

@jensljungberg91526 жыл бұрын
To me both the sound of the guitars and the spacey riffing scream Mastodon more than anything else. They both have the same kind of old-school "organic" (sounds like down-tuned Les Pauls) sound to them rather than the modern djenty chug sound as well as the varied vocals. The whole album feels sort of like a death metal Crack the Skye. Even though some of it sure as hell sounds like sounds like old-school Opeth (the first 6/8 riff from War Squids could have been from Still Life!). Apparently, the drums are totally programmed (Alan Cassidy from BDM will join them for the next album, SUPERSTOKED!!!!), but while I agree that they sound somewhat "flat" I was actually really impressed with how real they sounded. PS. That part in Crop Killer at 3:21 is my favorite musical moment of the year so far. When the guitar plays that mournful, highpitched chord and everything just comes crashing down gives me goosebumps.

I was so happy to finally hear someone pronounce the name of this band. And then I thought to myself, "can I really trust Sam Dunn with his pronunciation because he's Canadian". Then I thought, "don't be a dick he pronounced it closer to how it's spelled compared to how you were doing it". Then I heard him pronounce THE Black Day-Lee-Ah Murder. So I'm still trying to figure out how to pronounce the name of this band.
It's pronounced as Slug-juh. Matt Moss confirmed it on FB.
