Love these duct tape specials. I know some people don't like the scripted nature of them, but without a story to tie everything together it just becomes a series of unrelated challenges and wouldn't be as entertaining as a full special. It's not like they are trying to win any awards for the scripting/acting, merely giving some context and structure to tie the individual builds together in the absence of their usual myth based format.

LATEST NEWS: WALRUS ATTACKS REDHEAD In the calm waters of San Francisco a noisy and somewhat savage attack happened yesterday. A red-headed swimmer was trying to swim through bubbly water when suddenly an angry walrus appeared out of the gloom, barked at him repeatedly and then slapped him. People on the beach said that the walrus seemed to be acting as if it had a grudge against that particular swimmer. Eye-witness Kory Bellihara was in the water at the time: "This thing came out of nowhere! Suddenly it leapt out of the water, honed in on this red-headed guy and the just started barking at him. Bark, bark, bark, bark. That's what is did. Then it just slapped the guy with its flippers before swimming off to sea. The swimmer was shocked but said it wasn't the first time he'd experienced the wrath of an angry walrus, which seemed strange". Marine biologists were puzzled at the appearance of a walrus in the bad but speculated that the walrus may have seen the red-head as some sort of threat. Mating behaviour has been ruled out. Spotter planes have been sent to track the walrus down in case it should attack again. According to Mr Bellihara, the walrus has a distinctively long set of facial whiskers. I’m sure it was staged, but it’s information everyone should know if they’re in a survival situation themselves. And at the end of the day, they are both entertainers and scientists, and teaching things in a fun and entertaining way is what they do. That’s not even the only time they’ve taught viewers things they need to know to survive either. I remember a reunion episode where they watched a video from a fan telling her story of how she and her daughter’s car went off the road and into the water, and she remembered the underwater car escape episode and knew that she had to stay calm and wait til the pressure equalised, and she and her daughter survived because of that knowledge. The Mythbusters were quite emotional watching that(Karrie even cried a little) knowing that their work saved that family’s lives. I’m sure if a fan came to them and said that they were stranded on a desert island and they survived because they remembered this episode, the Mythbusters would be glad that they could help that person too.

Catamaran. Two cannoes linked together. Stable with plenty of stowage for food, water etc, easy to bail. Also means the two aren't forced into close proximity for excessive periods of time because in a confined space like that you will end up fighting after a few days. Those hammocks and shelter tarps can be stretched between the two hulls to increase cargo capacity. The tarps could be erected on a few uprights to form a rudimentary sail or sun shade.

11:20 Well u shouldnt drink too salty water, but it can be saltier, than u might expect, especially if theres none to almost none food. With salt water, which isnt more sour than the own tears, what would be 0,9% salt, u would add very helpful stuff to your body instead the food.... Because with food, u usually automatically have enough salt and therefor it isnt needed in water. So with 0,9% salt in water in those occasions u can even drink directly out of the baltic sea for quite a while. Not even kidding. Letting it cook for a while before would be smart tho. More relevant examples are regular water, mixed with salt water sources near the sea on some places. So salt water can actually be more useful than regular water in survival situations, if u dont overdo with the saltiness... The more u know... If u filter stagnant water good enough u can drink that too btw, what is easy nowadays with the right tools.... but yea it would be smarter to look out for a cleaner water than that and put it through the filter, to be sure and to spare the filter better. 15:38 Usually a bad idea as a main source, since this takes WAY too long, but yea it surely helps a bit.
