Very cool, l have a very old red white and blue bobber and would never throw it in the snake river or the lakes on the river but now it’s coming off my display and going fishing with me! This is going too be a lot of fun for me❤️thank Bud!! We have large rainbows here in Idaho!!

Will have to use the bobber on the line when I get back out in the spring (unless I decide to go to Almanor or head down to the foothills and valley). Will help on windy days when it’s hard to tell if I’m getting bit.

Another great video Cal!! Monday morning me and a buddy bank fished Collins lake and pulled out a 9 3/4 lbs rainbow and the next day I pulled out a 8.2 and an 5.3 rainbow using this same old tried true method. I might add that we were only 25ft offshore. There were people all day to the right and left of me deep casting and not catching anything. I dont think people realize how close the trout work the banks in winter. Anyway, You da man Cal..keep up the good videos.🔥🎣👊✌

Where I’m at they only plant every few years. Will power bait still work on trout that are not recently planted.
@FHSTackle3 жыл бұрын
YES! Planted trout definitely know what an easy meal smells like, even after being in a lake for several seasons.

i typically use 1 garlic scent power egg on a gold size 10 hook..key is that the hook allows the bait to float off bottom..power eggs never come off

Hi Cal, I’m a new subscriber to the channel, and I’m really loving the episodes I’ve seen especially these 101 basics. I come from a background of stream fishing and I’m used to just grabbing a container of night crawlers and my pole and it’s fish on. I used to fish Butte creek here in the north state, but now that I’m pushing 60 I can’t really get around those big rocks anymore. I’m completely ignorant to lures of ANY kind, I don’t know how to use them, or which ones to use at any given time. Do you have, or would you consider making a video for guys like me that are being forced by time to make some changes but LOVE to fish? Btw I’m disabled too so that’s another huge reason for the switch to lake fishing. Thanks so much I really love the channel. 👍

Hey man, year later, but hopefully it helps! If you want to use lures, I've had pretty good luck with spinners and rooster tails. Try and match colors to what the trout's going to be foraging where you're at. Cast out towards riffles or seams, and just slowly reel back in. Rinse & repeat! That said, even lake fishing, I've had fantastic luck with this setup (carolina slip rig) and powerbait. Detroit/Breitenbush have some good, easily accessible spots if you're talking about the Butte Creek I think you are. :) If you're trying to fish more still waters, trout are going to be on the move a bit, but still like to hang out around some cover, hit those areas and you should have success. Good luck, John!

@@gnomish844 Hey thanks so much for the answer, yes butte creek is what I fish, I’ve never had any luck in the feather river but maybe I’ll try this there too. Thanks again. 👍

Excellent video Cal, I've had good luck using powerbait at Folsom Lake on the stockers! Have you invested in some cheap plastic fishing bells? They make my life a lot easier while shore fishing.

I have some....I use them at times....Thank You!

I have used power bait at Folsom countless times and have never caught a fish, I’ve never even caught a trout in my life after 2 years of trying, any suggestions for fishing power bait at Folsom for someone who is just trying to get his first trout, at this point I’m very discouraged. Feel like selling my trout rod and just giving up at this point thanks
@Sean99943 жыл бұрын
@@dreadonarival64 Folsom really is either on or off everytime I go. I either get skunked with no bites, or multiple fish. No inbetween. The water is super low right now so it's gonna be tough anywhere on the lake. In summer I had really good luck going off the shore at Browns Ravine right before/during sunset. Just throw a Carolina Rig with an inflated worm or powerbait off the bottom and watch those lines. If you can drive the extra hour, I'd check out Ice House after they stock and fish off the retaining wall. Good luck and don't get discouraged, I got skunked many many times at Folsom before I found what works!

@@Sean9994 thanks really appreciate the reply never heard of ice house just moved to Roseville, I’m a bank fisherman only as of right now so is there a good spot to park and hike around the lake?
@Sean99943 жыл бұрын
@@dreadonarival64 Absolutely, there's a big parking area. I'd recommend get out as early as possible in the summer to beat the crowd and heat.

I use a bell on my fishing rod and i fish from a bank for trout and using a bobber on your fishing line it seems that it would put weight on the line and fish feel the resist
@FHSTackle5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it puts a little weight on it, but they don't seem to mind...Bell works well too! Thanks for watching James!

What size hooks do you recommend? And could this strategy work in creeks and river just use a smaller leader?
@FHSTackle5 жыл бұрын
An 8 or 10 octopus works well...It works in rivers....In general though, if I'm working moving water I don't like a bait that floats...For river trout, my top baits are...Smallish worms, salmon eggs, Power Eggs....And if I'm in a place with lots of wild trout...Crickets, Crickets, Crickets....They are a killer bait!! For overall stream fishing a 6 lb flouro leader is about right....

hows the American river for trout
@FHSTackle5 жыл бұрын
Well done below Folsom they are getting a few steelhead...I think the American above the lake is open to artificial lures with a single barbless hook, but I don't know anyone that has been trying....
