Banks Power

3 жыл бұрын

The Mr. Goodwrench 350 crate engine is rated at 190-250 horsepower. How much do you think it'll actually make on the dyno? We aim to find out. But putting our 1966 Chevy C20 on the chassis dyno will only tell us the horsepower it's making at the wheels. We want to know more! Like, how much power is the old air filter costing? How much air density are we losing between the truck's grille and intake manifold? To calculate this, we'll need to measure and compare ambient air density to manifold air density. Watch as the guys install the necessary sensors and make a mess along the way.

After a moment of silence for glorious survivor - I wait for the good stuff to come. My suggestion would on the order of a resto-mod, more or less original looks, with all the modern goodies like suspension, brakes, AC, nicely appointed cab etc. a bow to its heritage means it should still be a good tow vehicle. The 66 Chevy pickup was my all time favorite. At one I was going to buy a new one, but got married instead, I know hard to believe!

I'd be curious to see the Intake air temp in the manifold vs the incoming air temp vs fuel temp. Latent heat of evaporation is widely discussed, but I'd love to see it documented. Might affect the MAD. Fuel temp would also be relevant in that calculation I would think.

Heat riser crossover. It helps heat the manifold so it vaporizes better when it’s -25 outside (Canada). If you take it out the choke is on forever. An engine here lasted 80,000 miles.

Making a Data Monster work on a truck from 1966 is really cool! Makes me want an iDash DataMonster even more, unfortunately none of the OBD signal protocols pre-2008 are supported. This thing would be great to replace the ScanGaugeII I'm currently using in my SAE J1850 VPW protocol vehicles. I would definitely add an analog module to gather more data.

Correct me if I'm too far away, but if you are gathering all of this data to measure the efficiency of the engine and intake system, does this ,mean you are going to do some upgrades whilst retaining the current engine? I mean intake density, coolant temp and EGT are hardly going to be comparable to a turbo diesel or something.

Well, the coolant temp on the dashboard is interpreted and MANIPULATED by the ECU! Car makers learned long ago to NOT give very quick or very precise readings to drivers. The ECU does know the real actual values, but does not convey that info and simply follow the manufacturer’s algorithms. Reasons should be as obvious as knowing this much.
