It’s not that big a mystery. This forest has so much sadness and sorrow. Sadness and sorrow attracts more sadness and sorrow. Take that and the fact that Japan has one of the highest if not the highest suicide rate in the world, it’s no wonder why this forest attracts so many people who are deeply hurting. Plus the fact that this forest is very dense and easy to be alone in
@bennu547

I got problems because I stated facts?😹 I’m not the one who needs help here friend🙃 With logic and with grammar. Name me one thing that I said that was incorrect and why it’s wrong. Nothing I said was incorrect. Japan does have a high suicide rate. This forest is just perfect for being alone and taking your life. Especially since hundreds of people have done so in the past, that will attract more people to come to this forest to end their life. What about anything I said was illogical? And please construct sentences that actually make sense

@lukush4207 Yep. It’s a dense forest. It’s so easy to not be noticed there. The forest itself is so beautiful. It’s just a shame that it caries such sadness. Being able to hide and has such a sad history? It’s no wonder it’s a hot spot for suicide

Hear me out, the forest itself isn’t dark or out to get people. The energy of the forest is different depending on your intentions of going there, your headspace, and expectations due to what you may have already heard. But lets also not forget Aokigahara is generally dangerous because of how dense and unkept it is due to preservation (which is the main reason they advise people not to go in, it’s unsafe even for knowledgeable rescuers) and a generally easy place for people to get lost in or just never found if they’re there because they wanted to end it. Most people there sadly view it as shameful and would rather be deemed as missing and never found. It pains me to see the death toll rise and Japan not finding a sustainable way to decrease the numbers. People are overworked, underpaid, and feel they have no other option.

well said, i agree if any energy the forest is putting out is because mother nature is so sad at being used this way......if you believed this forest was good luck and held nothing but goodness you would feel great walkig through, the fact that so many have come to give up on life, their souls have left negative energy but thats not to harm anyone else, its just a sadness left lingering, mother nature has been used in such a sad way she is crying out to people to stop......

Ive heard a couple of ghost videos from native Japanese who weren't necessarily believers in that kind of thing that went into the forest with dark intentions but something made its presence known and tried to stop them. It could be a ghost or spirit or maybe their minds way of dealing with it and backing out but I also don't beleive that this forest is has a dark or demonic energy to it

57:17 That’s one of the 丸金石碑(Marugane Monuments) in Aokigahara Jukai, aka Suicide Forest. I did a quick Google search and found out that these stones are actually guideposts for ascetic monks who walk through the sea of trees. They were crafted by Marukin-ko, a religious group devoted to worshipping Mt. Fuji and its divine spirits. The top two characters are the letter 金 enclosed in a circle and the letter 詣, translating to 'Marukin pilgrimage'. On the right side, it reads 右ぎやうば, meaning 'the practice places are on the right'. On the left side, it reads 左なるさわ, meaning 'Narusawa villages are on the left' And on the far left, it reads 明治丗丁酉年二月廿日建之, which translates to 'Constructed on February 20, 1897'.

At 56:00 is an Edo period (1603-1867) gravestone. The old style of Kanji is difficult for most Japanese to read. I’ve seen plenty of them in an old forest cemetery in near the mountain village in Kyushu that my Japanese wife’s ancestors came from. Anyway, they didn’t always cremate bodies then (became popular in the Meiji era after 1867) so someone is probably buried there.

Josh, a good place to investigate is Sekigahara, it's a small town located in Fuwa District, Gifu Prefecture. One of the largest and most important Samurai battles happened in Sekigahara in the year 1600. 30,000 Samurai died in the first 6 hours of the battle. The battle united East and West Japan, and established the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled Japan for the next 250 years. Sekigahara is small town with a population today of around 7000 people and is small enough that it would be easy to investigate. The Japan series has been awesome! Thanks!

I've got a Masters in Japanese language but also studied the history, social and political economics amongst other things of the country, and Aokigahara is something we all touched upon in our classes in the UK and whilst we were living over in Japan. It's not the forest itself that brings people to it, people generally go there with intent to unalEYEve themselves. The forest itself is beautiful and is obviously protected, but I believe it's the energy that resides within it from all past souls that may be present there. Japanese people are under a lot of pressure to comply with specific social expectations and they don't get the help they need when they're feeling all sorts of ways as mental health and even disabilities are not something that's widely recognised over there. For some people, this is the only option they see as a way out, much like in the Western world. The forest, like you know is dark, dense, and goes for miles, a good majority of isn't mapped and you can easily get lost without the correct navigation or following the path. Some people who just want to 'disappear' go into this forest with the intent of disappearing and not being found. They don't want to be found and want to just erase themselves. I believe that it's the residual energy of all these people who are/were hurting that give the forest it's negative energy.

Aokigahara forest is the largest forest in Japan, open 24 hours, also conveniently located near several major roads. It is also a rarity among Japan forests, because it’s green all year round. This is most likely because of the volcanic lava creating an ideal soil for plants to grow. So it may attract people just simply because of the dense greenery. It appears beautiful, and then as you go through, the sun seemingly disappears behind the trees, almost creating a 360° darkness. Dark environments have been known to cause depression to deepen or enhance already existing conditions. It’s almost like it’s nighttime even during the day.

I used to go camping as a kid there. ( As well as later on too but not as often. ) It can be a nice place. It just depends on your mindset as well as where you go. Sadly a lot of people choose to.. Well you know.. In that forest. I believe they do so because its a more secluded place compared to where they normally live/walk around. Its upsetting and sad that people get to their breaking point and make that choice. ( They do not choose to do what they do there because of the forest, that is something you got wrong. They have already chosen to do so before going there. ) It is one thing I dislike about my home country. Mental health is not taken care of very well at all. Its gotten better compared to what it used to be at least but it still has a long ways to go. There is still a very heavy stigma to it. Aokigahara can be a dangerous place since it does have things that can cause you harm. ( Like spiders, ect ) It is also vast. A very much unexplored place. It is a easy pace for people to get lost. More so since there is a lot of area that has a type of metal underneath that causes problems for most compasses. The forest itself is not dark either, I am not sure where you are getting that idea from. The only reason the place might feel that way is because you, yourself, are feeling that way and just projecting it onto the area you are at. The mind can do strange things when it comes to that but that is another subject that would make this comment MUCH bigger than it already is.. But back to Aokigahara.. While, as I mentioned that it can be a dangerous place.. it can also be a fun place to go to. To go camping at as I mentioned. I have a fair amount of good memories camping out there with members of my family and friends. So once again. Its not the forest itself, but its the mindset of the person.
@SamiHime

Besides, the fact that people choose to end their life there doesn't mean the forest itself is haunted It's right by the foot of Fuji san, it's holy place On top of that, 青木ヶ原樹海 is literally not haunted and definitely not the most haunted forest, it's 慰霊の森 It's sad to see how they make fun videos out of people's misery They had to be struggling for a while to decide to end everything like this, often in painful ways, just for some you tubers to say that it was the forest dark aura who made them take their lives 😬

I've been a fan and follower for such a long time, I think it's time to go to more places to investigate, not just the UK but maybe even places within South America. They have really different ways of seeing ghosts, different experiences, customs, etc. Or go further into Europe, see and experience the different cultures of Bulgaria, or The Netherlands. You are the master of where you'd like to go, and I will always be watching. Love ya'll!

Josh you were such a baby back in 2017 when you went to that forest. You look so young, now your older and Wiser and you know so much more about ghosts and exploring. What's the one biggest thing you've learned about ghost hunting since you were there in 2017? Just wondering!

well in 2017 tbh i like did not really believe in ghosts much it wasn't until i went to the conjuring house where my believes shifted one thing i learned is they can be everywhere but its all about how u invite them in to your bubble and mind. before i can be in a asylum and completely ignore a bang or w.e etc i wouldnt even rly hear it . now i can go in an asylum and like feel the heavyness etc tbh id be scared now to go alone in 1 at night but before i wouldnt lol

@ExploringWithJosh so you think your more open to the other side then since you started ghost investigations? I bet that after exploring all these locations you can feel when something is near even when your not investigating. Have you ever brought a spirit home with you, or has something followed you?

I find it interesting the Ghost Talker said "Where are my ashes?" when the vast majority of Japanese people are cremated. I've been to this forest before as well but during the day so it just felt super normal, it is oddly quiet tho! There's a bat cave you can go to and also two ice caves nearby (on the Yamanshi side) so there are cave systems in the area. Caves in Japan tend to be limestone as well I think. I've lived in Japan for a long time and have been enjoying this series so far Josh, nice work! That stone marker you found btw said "kin" at the top, which means "gold" and also had the kanji for left and right on it. I can't read anything else but it's likely it's just an old marker for the area.

I'm American, but having done some research into Japan, I see that there are a lot of social issues that Japan and their youth are facing and due to the culture, these issues may be around for a while and it's very sad that some people feel like their is no way out other than to end themselves, i think it just so happens that that forest is where they choose to do it. I think you had the very best of intentions by coming to this forest, but I think if someone wants to find out WHY this darkness is happening, then they need to help - in whatever way they can - help raise more awareness about mental health, mental health issues and that its OK to seek help for the crisis that life can sometimes bring. As the population of Japan is on the decline and there are more elderly people, the youth are feeling a lot of pressure to do well in school and be the breadwinners for their families, there are a lot of people who need a lot of help.

u are correct! i am also American, but lived in japan for a long time. My wife is Japanese, and my longetst stint thus far has been 15 yrs. There a lot of social issues. People dont really pick on people with mental health, but at the same time there are almost NO programs FOR people with mental health.

I've never been in Japan (I would love to go), but reading about the topic, apparently in the parking lot at the edge of the forest there are several signs, both in japanese and english, discouraging suicide. And many of those who have been in the forest says that it feels like if something where pulling you deeper into it. Some thinks that the sensation of being ''pulled'' is caused by the ghosts of those who died in the forest (those who committed suicide and who got lost) and evil (or simply lonely) youkai, who wishes to keep them inside the forest.

Just a note... the forest has a LOT of animals - foxes, deer, bats and Japanese squirrels, as well as a very wide variety of birds, lots of insects. The foxes make a sound like a womans moan or scream, deer make soft, long grunts to call to one another or make a raspy wheeze when irritated or angry. Also, as all that tree and plant life die, it turns into dirt and fall into the cracks. the roots seek it out, so they run deep in some areas. a lot fo the mystery of the place is simply explainable. also, the soil has a high iron content which interferes with GPS and cell phone signals, its all natural.
@kjames982010
@kjames982010 Жыл бұрын
additionally, people kill themselves there because of the original book about suicide in the forest and the manual by Wataru Tsurumi ( about " the hardness of living". In the end its not supernatural its just people compounding the problem, encouraged by previous attempts.

ALSO,... Ubasute is a form of euthanasia that translates roughly to “abandoning an old woman.” In this practice-allegedly resorted to in Japan during times of famine-a family decreases the number of mouths to feed by leading an elderly relative to a mountain or similarly remote environment to die from dehydration, starvation, or exposure. Many argue that ubasute was never a real tradition, but a product of folklore, potentially connected to the suicide forest.
