It is because Kingpin is too arrogant. He lives in a world of superbeings, hell his turf is in the same place as the Avengers HQ and many other heroes. He should be more wary of his oppoments. In this case he did not even bring his laser cane despite the reputation Joe had.

It's just the Grey Hulk, though. "Joe Fixit" is just another alias. I liked the original Vegas run, because pre-Planet Hulk, it was one of the only times you seen the Hulk content. And he lost everything in an inverse of Banner turning into the Hulk.

I remember the Marvel Universe Cards from the early 90s and they had a scale of 1 to 7 for different categories. I believe Kingpin would be “3” and Grey Hulk would be “6”… a high “6”.

Loved that! It's funny seeing Kingpin flustered. The thing is he lives in the Marvel Universe full of mutants and enhanced characters. Fixit not only is bigger than him but bullets bounced off him. Why in the world would Kingpin who is not superhuman think it's so unrealistic his punches would have an effect after seeing bullets bounce off him? Same thing would happen if Kingpin met 75% of the Marvel Universe. Why wouldn't a mobster hire say the Blob to protect him? Don't get me wrong I loved it, but it seemed like Kingpin wasn't written all that intelligent.

Yeah. The Kingpin generally researches his foes before confronting them. He didn't get to be the Kingpin by acting rashly. And Mr. Fixit may be smaller than the normal Hulk and gray, but once you see his uncovered head, you'd have to know he's the Hulk unless you've been living under a rock for decades. The editorial at Marvel should have caught this and told the writer to revise the story.

@@Jon_EL don't forget about Daredevil too, the Kingpin throws around Daredevil like he's nothing, that is when DD isn't beating him up and flying somersaults around him. 😆 But Daredevil has no superstrength, his senses are super, but not his strength. So, this along with Spidey holding back like you said, gives Kingpin this false bravado that he's superhuman or something.

Glad I clicked on this. Haven't read comics since the mid 80's. But I remember Grey Hulk. For those unfamiliar with him he is a variant that showed up around 80. Don't remember what caused the mutation but I remember his distinguishing characteristics were his intelligence and the ability to prevent himself from turning back into Banner. At some point after Grey Hulk became established, he assumed the identity of Joe Fixit and became employed by the casino Boss. Don't recall if the Boss knew he was the Hulk. But remember he had a button in his cane that sent a signal that summoned Fixit if there was a emergency. Also don't remember what happened to GH at some point Hulk was back in the saddle. But it was established that GH/Fixit was still there inside him like Banner. Looks like he's back.

Kingpin kinda bizarre, because I have seen comic panels with him fighting Spider-Man, although he is heavily suppressed, but also panels where he fights Dr. Doom and he just takes Dr. Doom's attacks like energy blast and armor punches, but Kingpin overpowers Dr. Doom.

I love Peter David's writing on the Hulk and I so enjoyed his Fixit run. As to your suggestion that Kingpin should hire Creel, when Hulk (who was thought dead at the time) showed up as Joe Fixit (issue 347 I think, Fixit had been there for 6 months, and was hulk 24/7 when the story starts) and helped Berrengetti with Tony Gold (rival casino owner who was trying to muscle Berrengetti out so the Maggia could move in) the first Heavy he (Gold) hired to take on Fixit was Creel (Absorbing man), and despite Banner starting to reappear (And make things difficult for Joe), things did not go well for Creel (Who did recognize the Hulk). So if he (Creel) were to show up here, he knows exactly what he's getting into.

The Hulk already beat Crusher Creal at the Hoover dam, and spread his body parts down the river of the hover dam. Great material !! Now about the comic... That's one disappointing Fisk version. Don't get me wrong, the beat taken by Joe makes absolutely sense when you collide a strong guy vs the Hulk. But Fisk's tantrum, it's just a plot excuse. And the way he rushes into Joe's, without knowing anything about his foe who has records of showing superhuman strength, it's just sad. He is not the intimidating, controlling mastermind of crime I used to read about. I can't stop thinking about that poor representation of Dr. Doom in the WW Maestro run. Still, laughed a lot when Joe asks Kingpin to speak Latin. That's some of Peter David's magic. Thank you for sharing !!

Mr. Fixit. In my humble opinion, THE most terrifying Hulk. Still a planet buster, but with pettiness, narcissism and a vengeful attitude. And that's him on a good day, not even taking anything personal. If someone actually did something stupid enough to merit his focus and determination... I can't imagine a more scary opponent. A vindictive, planet busting fiend that can also use tech... I hope he never gets brought to the MCU. I have zero faith they would adapt him properly.

It’s like an ant trying to fight an elephant.
