Charles was also very fond of Maori opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa and also asked her to sing at his wedding to Diana. Close friendships with a Jewish woman and a Maori woman hardly suggest 'racism'! Yet that is what his daughter-in-law on whose wedding he spent more than 27 million dollars, is asserting!

Well before he met Diana, he was on a tour, I think in Africa, where he joyously danced with a black woman… it caused quite a stir at the time and boosted his credibility as a modern ‘eligible bachelor’ or swinging sex symbol. Doesn’t feel particularly racist to me.

No matter what H&M say about Charles, over the years there have been any number of people from all walks of life and many different cultures that have found him to be a very kind and thoughtful person.

All his adult life he’s had to meet, converse with, support, people in the UK and all over the world from virtually every country and background. In all that time, has anyone suggested he was racist or ever even said anything inappropriate about people of colour? Nope, and he’s had a lot of negative, unfair criticism over this years. I do, however, recall at least three occasions where Harold has said or done something very questionable, ‘biased’ or downright racist. So examining the evidence, the Harkles come up short. I think we know who the real racist is, don’t we?

The book cover featuring Barbra’s profile, made me do a double take. Her profile looks like aJewish version of Princess Anne’s profile. Perhaps Natural selection was at play at an unconscious level. As I myself am Jewish, I hope this cultural observation doesn’t cause any offence…. Nothing is too out there for our club Is it Shauna & Co. ❤.

Thank you for the review, had no idea Barbra Streisand knew Prince Charles, nice to know they have kept the friendship up. Ms. Streisand has the ability to recount her life stories with a good sense of humor. Really wonder how many reconnaissance missions Tigg went on throughout his lifetime.

I had a friend that was a fantastic trumpet player! He retired and moved next to me in our very rural community. He had so many famous phone numbers in his Rolodex. He had fantastic memories of playing in Elvis’ orchestra, replacing a trumpeter for Doc Severnsin’s band on the Tonight Show. Well, on of the stories was about Barbara Streisand when she was singing in the very start of her career. She was performing in a club in downtown Detroit. She was taking a break with my friend and others that were playing across the street. She was talking about some personal topics and I would love to know if they made it into the book. So I will be purchasing the book with enthusiasm. So goodbye and God bless!

My dad was a professional photographer, worked for Columbia records. He had done her first Album cover …. He had dinner with her and always said she was a super nice woman ! There is slightly more but I can’t post on YT 😊

@The Vintage Reader, my dear mother loved Barbara Streisand. My first movie watching with her was Funny Girl, which I really liked to. Her many films I still watch, her voice is amazing and great acting. Very emotional, they are. Thanks for sharing this. Happy December. Barbara’s Christmas Album I think I’ll listen to today.

I ❤️Barbra! In fact from the movie A Star Is Born, I chose her song Evergreen for our first dance 45 years ago! I still haven’t watched the new version with Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga! I'm currently listening to Barbra's book on Audible and loving it. She narrates it herself in such an informal, conversational style it almost feels like sitting having a cosy chat with her. I love the way she describes clothes and decor etc. I haven't got to the part where she met Prince Charles yet so I'll look forward to that 😃❤

The dog's name was Tigger. He had two jack russells....Tigger and Roo.

So the dogs were named after characters from Winnie The Pooh. 😮 That’s cute! 😊

@@looloo4029 I always thought so, too! He really loves his dogs. Roo was running along besides him as he returned to the house with friends. Roo disappeared, Charles was really upset and kept going out to look for him and call him. He was never found. He kept his dogs close by, and when a dog would drip a bit of pee a on the bed, Charles told the housekeeper not to worry about it. "It's just a bit of wee, Wendy". One of the things, in my opinion, that alienated Charles from DIana was that she made him get rid of his Labrador Sandringham, who he adored. She complained to others that "He loves that stupid dog more than he loves me - it's going." For those of us who are animal lovers, you can imagine the effect that would have.

Great fun story. Yep…..letting your dog pave the way is a safe testing the waters as no face lost. I’m guessing that friendship is the best outcome as this endures and….Camilla has been ..and is…the love of his life. This way…both women remain in his life.

What an amusing retelling of the Prince and the singer--since many of us cannot take on the 970-page autobiography, it was fun to get a little sample. Hm-m-m, it would seem a bit cheap and possibly insulting or to invite a guest snd then make a move on her, and for her to make the first move seems just a bit too forward.

I like the idea of royals fishing outside the aristocratic pond. I don't know whether they all think of it in terms of how the late Duke of Edinburgh put it in regard to actresses. I'm grateful nothing transpired between then prince Charles and Barbra. It would have ruined the sort of magic surrounding their relationship.

Hum, Queen Barbara? Charles and Babs love history, art & architecture. They both enjoy juicy, in-depth intellectual conversations. If they married, they would have been great companions. The part of this story that is confusing is why would Charles be interested in Babs after his separation from Diana. Wasn’t he in love with Camilla?

I know you love a bit of juice but Barbra's recounted these stories in past interviews and it was very Charles and innocent. There are plenty of stories of Charles seeking out "Tigger" (Tiggy for short is a coincidence as the dog was around before their nanny) and it was very common for him to invite Prince's Trust and charity contributors to stay with him hence the other guests. Plus he was already very much committed to and risking the throne for Camilla by that point. Perhaps in the 1970s but no picture of Charles' dorm I've ever seen includes a Babs poster. P.s. Loving your snarky, silver lining Endgame comments.

@@thevintageread I was trained by Barbra herself hehe….Always on the look for it and it rarely fails hehe…in Europe it’s a 100% chance of mispronounce. Aren’t you surprised how little reactions the book has on You Tube? Barely 3. Odd for a NYT best seller no? I’m obsessed with it and into my third listen. My only criticism is the lack of insight into how she became so wealthy with such little original music and not that many films either. I wish there were more truthful insights into the financial aspect of her career. Also she literally erased The Guilt Trip and most of her unflattering choices from her book. She is a one of a kind genius nonetheless. A lucky one too it seems considering how she met Marty who clearly was a crucial part of her success. I do hope time doesn’t erase her legacy and career trails for out of the box talent and shining individuality.

Oof, I’ve never found Charles to be good looking at all. I always thought Princess Diana either had severe eye problems or just very poor taste in men. At least as he’s grown older he’s somewhat grown into his ears.

I’m sorry but Barbra has just totally destroyed my joy in one of my all time favorite movies, Yentl, by spilling the *alleged* beans on Mandy Patinkin. Who happens to be one of my favorite actors (hullo, Dead like me, Homeland anyone?). Maybe people should just stop writing memoirs. It takes all the fun out of everything. actors should act, singers should sing, ex princes should just enjoy their 16 empty bathrooms, and the rest of the time they should all just shut up. IMHO.
