This is the most natural, relaxed interview I've seen with her. She's normally kind of on guard in other interviews. And Howard is holding his own.

That is exactly what I said about Hillary Clinton when he interviewed her a few years back. Even he said had she allowed herself to be interviewed by him before the 2016 election she might have won, the interview was that monumental (it really was the best interview she's ever done). There has always been this fear by some of being interviewed by him... But it turns out he's one of the best interviewers ever.

If she was gonna make changes to "Gypsy", then it's absolutely just as well that she didn't do it. "Gypsy" is about as perfectly structured a musical as you'll ever find. You don't make changes to that material; you honor and cherish it. The LuPone revival is a perfect case in point.

So silly that Sondheim couldn't see Streisand both directing it and starring in it. She's proven she can. The soundtrack alone would have been fantastic! Surprised at Sondheim's thinking. However Spielberg directing it? Yes! Missed opportunity. She should have done the role, period!

Actually, the amazing things she's had in her life and career are probably the direct result of her believing in them. You DO know it took 15 years to get YENTL made? She is merely saying that one cannot ALWAYS get what one wants. Sure, she could have made another slight little telepic of GYPSY - or an independent film of it - made, but I suspect something rather larger, especially as her swan song, is what she was after...
