The reason it wasn’t so obvious before was because offensively Barcelona were very good. 14/15 they had the worst defensive record in La Liga but they won the treble that season. Not much defending to do when u have the ball 60-70% of the time and when u don’t its on the opposite side of the field. Barca only had to stop a handful of counter attacks a game during that time. The defenders would get bored and they would higher up than the strikers even if they had a decent lead. I agree with u that barcas defense was always weak but they could get away with it at the time. Hated watching barca games after a while personally. The opposition would always set up a bus and barca would just pass the ball around the midfield until they find space. The other team would just set a bus as tight as they can and hope for a counterattack. Same game every time.

Going long would not have helped either. Bayern has huge powerful players in comparison to Barca. Suarez and Messi would have esaily been bullied if Barca tried to go long. The problem is not playing out from the back, but lack of a clear plan in doing so. Barca's fullbacks stayed back when building up from the keeper. That was a recipe for disaster because it made things so easy for Bayern. You see, when Semedo and Alba stay back during the build from the back phase, they invite pressure from Bayern forwards and midfielders. Setien should have instructed both fullbacks to move higher up the pitch thus relieving the barca center backs and cdm off much pressure. But having both fullbacks stay back invited a lot of unnecessary pressure from Bayern and Bayern took advantage of this.
