I'd describe myself as a budding painter over 40 years of motorbikes and a few cars. Any opportunities I've had to watch true Craftsmen at work I've seized. Just happened on your channel and it's so informative and I must say therapeutic to watch the paint go on. My kids always wanted to help and guess what now they are grown up can all prep a surface and wield a rattle can! You should be proud of your little girl getting stuck in and seriously it's just part of developing practical skill sets for life. Brilliant explanation of blocking in and Abronet I will be getting. Thank you have great Christmas.

A lot of man-hours, products, energy, expertise and dedication are required for a good job. A lot of people think that painting a car or a motorcycle is just spraying with some color in a can and that's it. Around here, if you try to explain what's involved, you get labelled a thief, so this channel, with comprehensive explanations is very important.

Tony, have you ever tried a Hutchins 800 orbital file sander. It's not like the Hutchins Hustler which is straight line and primarily suited to filler work but is orbital. It can make short work of blocking as it is more or less an air powered block. I have one and would be willing to send it to you except for the fact that shipping it to England would probably cost over $100. If you can get your hands on one to try out I recommend you do so. It can save a ton of time

I first heard you'd use 80 grid, and thought "Now, here's a dude who knows how to sand!" but then realized it was 180 grid.. I'd use 120 grid in that stage. Heavier dust, less strokes and less heat warpage in the metal. Also would apply the paste layer throughout the side in one go, then block it down with the doors attached to make the side true. The high fill primer fills the 120 grid easily, and the 120 grid creates more texture for the primer to hold on to.
@TonysRefinishingTV3 жыл бұрын
We’re blocking by hand there won’t be any heat warp and it’s not a concourse job as I said so there’s no need for a full skim over the whole car as you say above , also p180 would be the lowest to prime over p120 it’ll sink back into

Fantastic Christmas eve video Tony and as always the live chat was great and a good laugh, I keep trying different makes of sanding discs and strips but always seem to come back to Mirka, they may not last as long as some but the extraction from them is imo the best. I know that hand blocking is the best way to get the panel really nice and flat but I find it hurts my arms so have to settle with using my Deos for blocking then the Deros for DA work to avoid as much hand sanding as I can. Just like to say a huge thanks to you mate for all the vids you do and all the help you have given me personally over the past couple of years to sort out the problems I had, at least I don't bother you as much these days on FB messenger which is good news for you and means I'm doing ok, thanks Tony! 🤗🙏👍

can somebody answer what is the purpose for Dry guide cote
@TonysRefinishingTV3 жыл бұрын
Dry guide coat I’d applied as it’s a different colour to the primer when you sand the body it will highlight low spots and imperfects in the body

Tight and fiddly areas are always a pain. None of your blocks is right for it. What I do is have some XPS (extruded polystyrene) at hand, then I cut it to whatever shape, size or thickness and use that as a sanding block for tight areas. And also never be afraid to use a bare hand, fingers are nature's sanding blocks but yeah it takes time
@TonysRefinishingTV3 жыл бұрын
Well my blocks do get into those areas buddy I showed this in the video 🙄

@@TonysRefinishingTV well, buddy, I was never talking about your particular blocks, I was just generalizing and maybe give someone an advice...
