In my humble opinion the second World Tournament arc vastly surpasses the previous one in terms of gripping storytelling and its battles with most of them being top tier for its time!

Agreed, and the third Tenkaichi Budokai is the best in all
@ValientlinkКүн бұрын
I agree and believe the same to be true with the 3rd. The 2nd Tenkaichi Budokai is just so iconic. Ma-Junior and all that is cool but we already knew the outcome of the tournament pretty much. The story telling and character elements and developments in this arc are huge.

First round matches in the 21st budokai were fun but no where to this level, second round and finals for 21st were iconic but this tournament and 23rd have the action, stories, and better characters

The reason you haven’t seen Roshi fly is because he can’t, even in Super he takes alternative transport It’s not because he couldn’t learn it, but because Flying was a Crane School technique and Roshi refuses to on principle 😅

Oh, that's odd. At 8:24, it's supposed to be translated and say "Son Goku." But apparently, they only have translations on subbed? That's weird, because otherwise you can't really read some stuff. But I think it's cool, because it's more or less the beginning of "Son Goku" being the target and enemy of so many people, and why he decided to stay dead after Gohan beat Cell

This is how you know Roshi was training in secret. He's on par with Tien and Goku here who are already really powerful. I wonder why he stopped training. He was shown to be able to keep up with some of the best fighters, and then in Z he's just smoking ciggs, drinking beer and cans of coffee. It's honestly sad how much he fell in Z to become purely a comedic character when he was ICONIC
@DoredarКүн бұрын
I understand your opinion, but to be fair at this point of Dragon Ball he reached his limits, he couldn't keep up with the Goku and Piccolo power levels and that is ok. He was able to reach the level of kid Goku and teen Tien, but the Dragon Ball Z power levels were way beyond of his league. I respect him but what they did in Super was super irrealistic and made no sense. He had a power level like 100 or something is Z and then in Super somehow ha managed to be like 10x stronger then Frieza in the Frieza saga of Z.
@ValientlinkКүн бұрын
@@Doredar I don't know that he truly did reach his limits though. I think he simply chose to no longer become stronger because he wanted the new generation to take the place of him. He could've kept up training with the others if he'd really wanted, but hearing Goku training with literally God was probably the nail in the coffin.
@MalstromFonseca-ze7xeКүн бұрын
@@Doredar roshi didnt stop training because he was surpassed, he stopped training because he wanted to take it easy and rested easy knowing tien and chiatozu and eventually others were good rivals for goku to always improve. trying to make sense of power levels has always been a fool's errand. sometimes a 10% percent advantage is overkill other times a 30% difference is still competitive. Power level also doesnt fully take into account speed, strength and ability differences ( e.g bulk trunks coudnt beat 2nd form cell despite being stronger cuz he was too slow). In truth, the fanbase was so zealous, they came up with a post hoc science to make sense of a simple plot device toriyama invented. in the anime at least, chiaotzu surpassed guldo who had a power level of 10k, i see zero reason why roshi coudnt have such a power level. Even in super,Roshi mostly kept up with trickery and special tecniques, when it came to people with well established powers like frost, even buff roshi stood no chance. All we know, is that roshi is now strong enough to take a couple of frieza soldiers (and even then, it was clearly he was struggling a bit more than the others). He can still be weaker than nappa power level wise for all we know
@deckzone3000Күн бұрын
@@MalstromFonseca-ze7xe Where was 30% a competitive difference? You said 2nd form Cell, instead of Perfect Cell.
@MalstromFonseca-ze7xeКүн бұрын
@@deckzone3000 Goku was 150,000,000 and Frieza was 120,000,000 during their final fight, a 25% difference wereas beginning namek arc vegeta had no issue at 24k beating dodoria at 22k which is basically a 10% difference. Power levels differences were NEVER consistent in any form

the reason why tien is so mercyless is because his dream is to become the number one assasin, like tao, thats why he is so bloodthirst with roshi and yamcha and everyone else ,and thats actually explains many things and responces of him, but i dont know if the english translation reviele it at all! in the japanese they have already said so !

Is Tien stronger than Roshi?
@karatekid-nq6ctКүн бұрын
No. A lot of people watched dbz growing up and there's even a few that have watched the OG and still claim that Tien was stronger here. Maybe he was slightly stronger, but Roshi was vastly superior experience wise, and in the OG DB experience counted far more. That's why a lot of casual fans think that Roshi is OP in super, because in super they brought back the experience factor. Even before the start of this match Tien refers to Roshi as the perfect predator, and he wanted to use Chiaotzu to gauge his power. Sure the whole '' dodge '' thing was a Toriyama gag but why would Tien be so rattled? NEXT PART IS A SPOILER: Even if Roshi and Tien were dead even, which Toriyama purposely tried to showcase here, Roshi wins on experience alone. But he wanted Goku and Tien to have the final, he wasn't being egotistical, he saw growth potential in Goku and Tien and wanted them to learn from the experience, regardless of who wins. Even in just the beginning of this match Roshi caught Tien off guard with his physical strength, he could have used his signature move, but that would give away his identity and ruin it for Goku and Tien. How so many fans still think Roshi wouldn't have flattened Tien here is funny, literally everything in the story points to it.
