It's understandable, because when many of the bar owners ask for help they mention the bar failure will bankrupt them and then their out of their house and the kids would suffer. In a way it's good, because it can show a person priorities- does the bar owner want to make money to have nice stuff, or care for their families and support their employees.

Where I'm from, the bar down the street would do a Saturday morning breakfast special. 11am to 1pm, 10 bucks got you all you can eat breakfast and all you can drink vodka and juice. The only reason they stopped was the owner died and the bar closed. This bar was never in danger of being visited by Mr. Taffer. Everyone loved Fred (the owner, Sly Fox was the bar's name) and the food was top notch Southern style breakfast.

Imagine you're sitting there hungry as all get up waiting for silverware, Jon comes with silverware and you are excited to finally eat, but then he just throws the silverware all over the floor.

I was a bartender at a club for 5 years. In that time we went through about 20+ bartenders. They were either stealing, over-pouring, or lied about knowing drink recipes. I remember having an argument with one that a Pina colada isn't suppose to be made with gin. Allot of them had big egos and wouldn't admit they didn't know a drink recipe and look it up. It wasn't until later I had a girl that was pretty, knew her shit and was fast. We worked great together and pulled $600 each on Friday nights and $400 on Saturdays A rare combo. The owners were cheap and wouldn't provide the tools we needed. Not even a shaker, bar spoon (they wanted us to use a plastic spoons), strainer or cleaning supplies. The last straw was when they wanted us to share our tips with the owner's fuck buddy waitress, water down our mixers or replace with artifical substitutes, pour well liquor into a top shelf bottle and yet charge the same. Can you imagine paying $15 for a screwdriver with Belvedere but instead you get tang with well vodka? The waitress would drink through her shift for free typically patron shots, only take orders from her friends completely drunk. She maybe took 5 orders a shift and expected 50% of our tips. We both left at the same time when the owner accused us of giving out free drinks. He complained that we would go through patron without the sales to support it. When we pointed out her fuck buddy was the cause, he ignored it and wanted us to give up ALL our tips to cover the loss or be fired. We called his bluff, took all our tips and left. That night we hung out and hooked up. The next morning his partner called to ask us back claiming they fired the waitress and we can keep our tips but we refused. They tried to replace us but ended up with ppl just like before. The owner with the fuck buddy, was later arrested for coke possession. Apparently he was a hard-core cokehead and stole from the other owner. They ended up selling and its a much better place.

I feel for the bartender who locked herself in the bathroom crying. The pressure kills you, everybody yelling at you, or yelling they didn't get a drink yet, the small mistakes you make add up to huge pressure and unfortunately she couldn't take it. I couldn't take it either and I'm watching this unfold through a screen, and I want to lock myself in the bathroom. My anxiety was sky high watching everybody yell they haven't gotten a drink yet, the simple mistakes she made that put her behind on drinks leading her to rush, and try to get the drinks out on time leading to more simple mistakes, leading to more unhappy people, leading to more and more pressure building up until she finally couldn't take it anymore and broke down crying locked in the bathroom.

I've worked with a lot of old timers in a lot of different kitchens and lemme just tell you the dude at 38:30 is not an outlier. It's definitely not just the older cooks but I noticed a definite trend with them just being vile. Keeping a towel in their pocket and using that instead of washing their hands. Eating while working. Never sanitizing cutting boards or prep tables. Never dating and labeling product. It goes on and on and makes me so happy I quit this industry.
