I can't even judge Lisa for needing a break to cry. Because considering some of the reactions owners have had to Gordon telling them they have no idea what they're doing, a "devastated self-realization" moment is better than a "Who does Gordon think he is trying to tell me what to do?" moment. Once she recovered she instantly shifted to "Okay, how can I do better?"

@rempanda
@rempanda 2 жыл бұрын
That situation with Cece felt so familiar to me. I had friend that up until her early 20's acted the way Cece acted first time around. Unable to take criticism, sudden emotional outbursts, very childlike way of speaking, basically acting as though she was still 5 years old. But she had a heart of gold. And then when she had her first kid at 23 started to mature. Her entire life until then was marked by zero discipline from her parents (if she got detention at school parents would make a formal complaint about the teacher rather than making her accept responsibility for her actions, rather like Cece's father getting angry at Gordon for criticizing Cece) and just a severe lack of self confidence. Becoming a mother gave her some control and confidence back and I see that in Cece too. It's sad the restaurant closed but it was so lovely to see her more content and happy.

Having been on several series sets, I can't make myself not notice this things and asking myself, how many takes did it take for, for instance, Gordon walking in the restaurant. @@thelonelyduck7267 yea lol, we're so used to these things that we don't tend to notice them at all. It's on the level of the host ringing the bell and switching camers inside the room, showing the person being surprised and asking "who could that be" - well I don't know Jessica Fletcher, did you try asking the cameraman who's filming your surprised reaction inside your apartment? You know.. this kind of things lol. Anyway yea, for a medium budget 10 minute clip, you would usually need a day of filming, of course, depending on what is being filmed, it can take or add more time. It also goes without saying that in most cases, every "random person" is not actually random at all, but is part of the cast or the show extras. Most of these shows are scripted to the bone, however, the illusion that we end up seeing is still a display of reality or something similar to it.

If you think about it, Lisa's age may be why she was able to take Gordon's advice so well. She didn't have decades worth of bad habits and built up ego to shed. Also, people spend their while lives expecting their elders to teach them, and so it's probably easier for a younger person to take Gordon's criticisms for what they are, as opposed to owners and chefs who are closer to his age, if not older. It makes perfect sense why a 28 year old with only 5 years experience would be able to receive Gordon's advice more easily than a 60 year old with 35 years experience.

Under that much stress crying is a natural reaction. What you do after is what really matters. I’ve worked set jobs and been yelled at for mistakes but I got back up and did better. There a lot of “hurry up and wait” in restaurants as well which is a motto used in the film industry. Both are tough and overwhelming at times but with practice and hard work you can overcome all of that.

so update on the place, what happened after They focus on the wine bar and Chef Scott worked on training the chefs. Gordon revisits a year later, business has increased by 20% and Lisa has fired her boyfriend Damien, the bar manager. There are new dishes inspired by Gordon including a Mushroom Flatbread. Lisa has also expanded into Lido brand wine, catering and private dining. The restaurant hosts a number of events including wine tastings. Gordon revisits a year later and they cook a dish together. Gordon is impressed and tells her to keep up the good work. Lido di Manhattan is open and continues to be very successful. Yelp reviews are good with positive comments on the food and complaints seem to focus on service. In 2017, Lisa Hemmat and partner Levi Lupercio opened Playa Hermosa Fish and Oyster restaurant and reviews are excellent. Lido di Manhattan aired on March 04 2010, the episode was filmed in July 2009

I like Lisa. She's got a good attitude and was willing to follow advice once she got guidance. All she was missing was initiative and instruction, and when Gordon gave that to her, she excelled in it. Reminds me of fellow achieving(or overachieving) children and honor students. Sometimes you just have to guide us and tell us what to do and we'll make sure it's done incredibly well. And when she asked him to cook a meal with her, that's adorable and shows how proud she is of her progress! ALSO. She's a vegetarian but runs a regular restaurant. That's the kind of people I respect.

Andy is a good example of HOW so many lose themselves for a minute, and it's usually unaddressed trauma that knocks the confidence, and starts to lash out at everything, destroying himself, which has a destructive ripple effect on the surrounding environment. The way GR pushes and puts him under pressure is the only way to BREAK the SPELL.
