If your lever cant turn, its because something is seized in the BDA unit itself. No problem, as underneath that black plastic lever is a metal rod that is connected to the actual blend door. As long as that rod is parallel with the dash, your AC is on. If it is perpendicular to the dash, full heat is on.

I dropped the gIove comparment and spotted the white stem of the blend door actuator with a flashlight. I plug the heater core at the firewall with duct tape so no debris or anything can get in there. Come winter I put the hoses back. Easy peasy. I love my 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis just coming up on 100,000 and this is the only problem I have had so far. Just did this but some clarification is needed. First, the screw that's removed is an 8 mm screw, in case you don't happen to have a 5/16 wrench. Second, when you pry up on the white plastic tab, what you are doing is lifting up the black part that comes out of the white plastic actuator up off the curved metal blend door shaft. The black part just slips over top of the blend door shaft. This needs to be done because the black lever is usually too tight to turn by hand. I pressed hard on it with a screw driver and it wouldn't budge. Best guess is the plastic gears inside broke and jammed the mechanism. Once you lift up the black lever, you can then turn the metal shaft with your hand. Third, I recommend removing the glove box to get it out of the way. It's only 2 screws at the bottom of the glovebox. Fourth, before you proceed with this fix, observe the black lever while turning the temp knob. If it rotates, then the blend door actuator is not the cause of your no temp change issue. If no A/C, could several be a myriad of causes. Bad compressor, no freon, etc... Finally this fix shown is for the manually controlled climate system (3 round knobs). I don't know if this applies to the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control type system (EATC). Otherwise, thanks for the video. It's gonna be 105 this week and I needs my A/C!

Just discovered this myself after hitting the forums and youtube for days, I really didn't want to pull the dash because my wife relies on the the vic and I don't trust that I'd be able to get everything back together in time to not cost one or both of us a day of work (or me a night of sleep). It's really this simple though, but you're gonna need to put some strength into it to get that actuator lifted, for nearly 20 year old plastic it sure as shit is still rigid as hell. Good old Ford.

Funny I did a1959 F100 Grand Marquis frame swap, I replace that thing 3 times in less than a year, the Parts Store ones will not last as long as the original, so now I have a hidden choke cable with nob connected to the blend door under the dash. Even with a warranty I still had to keep replacing it, so now in the summer I just push it in, and winter pull it out.

Good idea but you can't see what your doing because the light isn't on the part. I think sometimes the blend activator is OK but the lever has dropped down out of the holder that turns it left and right. If there was someway to push the lever back up into the holder where it would stay it would be the best thing to do. maybe a rubber O ring around the plastic holder and lever would work to hold the lever in the activator.

I been thru THREE new blend doors on my two Mercury GMs, same as Crown VIc .. Then the FORTH one went bad .. garbage part do NOT buy one or replace, not worth it.. I will NEVER DO IT AGAIN .. insane nightmarish stuggle.. Now the 4th bad one STAYS in there.. I use a 9v transistor radio battery and clip it to the purple/green wires on the EAC unit and just run the blend motor to hot or cold as needed in the fall and spring times.. On my OTHER Merc, the motor itself won't run.. so I sneak a common dishwashing sponge in behing the glove compartment area where you CAN reach the blend door lever.. and I just push the sponge in to wedge it in hot or cold position as needed .. These blend actuators should have brought a major lawsuit to FORD over the definite and absolute failure EVERY OWNER will encounter.. they last about as long as a balloon in a cactus patch.. The local shop wanted $1400 to do this job !!@#$%@#% .... NEVER AGAIN... I used web available schematic and easily found which wires run up to the blend motor. Connect 9v battery in either polarity to run motor hot or cold directions .. easy as pie.. what I found was the motors are OK, it's the positioning sensor on them goes whack and you get the clik clik clik as motor drives to one end and keeps going ... if you've heard the clik sound you know exactly what I mean.

Too bad this will never work in Ohio where we experience four seasons a week. This video is helpful though. Too bad you can't replace the actautor like this. Thanks for the video.

Question for the 08 grand marquis lovers. My AC went out; I changed the blend door actuator & main control module. When I change the settings you can hear a click.. but no AC, no heat or cool. Almost like the blower motor isn’t going on. Any ideas? Any fuses to check? Again.. lol. I am getting error code 25 in the dash.

The ac accumulators are known to be a common problem. They rust out and leak..
