oh man, this is the scariest Bas Rutten's fight out of all i've seen. Was he alright? The referee should have seen this earlier...he was out cold and referee did not stop the fight on time.

saddwon i really thought thats untrue, however i did find that 4-6 mins of cerebral hypoxia starts causing permanent brain damage. 2 mins sounds like really long time though... hmmm

For real 2 mins might be significant brain damage rather than starting, all i know is it takes a while for a choke to kill/ permanently damage a person.

+Johnny D Since it's a choke I wasn't as worried as the Yanagisawa K.O. You've gotta hold a choke a long ass time to do more damage than a K.O. like that. But bad ref, Bas had the choke locked at 0:55, the guy goes out at 1:06 and release only comes at 1:11. Joe Lauzon made a very interesting video comparing his submissions to Palahares in terms of timing and 5 seconds is way way too much.

the first time i saw this fight i thought straight away this move will be my bread and butter. The head arm choke is so god damned good you can use it as a sweep you can get it if someone is trying to cross face or forearm choke you if you can't get their arm out for an americana or kimura you can get your head on their tricep and push into the side choke. Its so god damned awesome

I know it's been 4 years since this comment but I just came across it and this video. Speaking of the side choke (with the arm) if you watch Jack Swagger's (Jake Hagger is his shoot name in Bellator) first pro MMA fight in Bellator earlier this year you'll see that's how he finished off his opponent. He was on top of the guy in a full mount I believe laying on him and he got the guys arm by his head and boom he slapped on the choke and dude went night night. So ya, it's a devastating move, it can be anyone bread and butter bc it'll work every time.

I didn't feel like I was being choked out but I literally couldn't do anything to get the little bastard off. Its fun times like that where I want to get back into martial arts again.

When i do the choke i have to have my shoulder against his arm. Whenever i try it the way in the video (with my neck against arm) i feel like i'm going to choke myself out. It's one of my favourite chokes, but i can never win with it because the opponent pushes his arm away from his own neck and i feel like i'm going to pass out. Then my instructor does it to me and i cannot escape. I'm obviously doing more than one thing wrong. It upsets me as its basically my favourite choke and i can't even do it lol.

Try and bring your elbow down, toward your hip. And turn your back to get on your knees. Thats just to keep blood flow to your brain... your own arm is whats completeing the "choke." You need that off your neck before you can do anything else.... then...
