Ken Shamrock was one of the first guys to be truly well-rounded. That submission was beautiful, the way he swung around so quickly. Beautiful to watch.

List of people Bas never beat in his MMA career: 1. Ken Shamrock

In 93-94 Shamrock was arguably P4P. Shamrock went on the slide after he knew he could not beat Royce Gracie.
@FlechFisher
@FlechFisher 7 жыл бұрын
bullshit,he could beat gracie anyday in the 90s, 1st time they fought ken underestimated his grappling cuz he dint know him and thats why he got cought, 2nd ken pretty much beat him to a bloody pulp but there was no judges and time expired so it had to be called a draw, if there was judges tho it would have been an L for gracie, then he went on over 20 years to finally acept the 3rd fight.....

I think towards the end of his career he tried to go toe to toe with better strikers, instead of sticking to his mastery of the ground game, and lost his mojo.

Had a chance to see Ken Shamrock back in his glory days. The guy looked like he belonged in a comic book. His shoulders were so wide he had to turn sideways to go through a door. Funny thing, he ALWAYS looked pissed off but for those brave enough to walk up and address him respectfully, he'd shake your hand and give you a smile.
@stevehartkopf9114
@stevehartkopf9114 9 жыл бұрын
+BloodofPatriots I must agree...around the time he fought Kazuyuki Fujita, he was billed as 6'1 or 2" and around 225 lbs.... but when I stood next to him, I thought that couldn't be right...lol he looks 5" taller and almost like an Olympian top five placing bodybuilder!!!! To me he never looked pissed off when I was around him, always a smile on his face!

A lot of people say (probably correctly) that a lot of fights in Pancrase (and probably early MMA, and even some now) were "worked" But when you look at fights like this (or many others in Bas career), its obvious that these guys are furiously competitive and are willing to physically destroy one another to win. Bas broke guys legs, nearly choked people to death, sent dudes to the hospital. I can't see any "works" in these early fights. Nor any reason why anyone would WANT to set them up.
@davidgriffithsbjjcoach7207
@davidgriffithsbjjcoach7207 5 жыл бұрын
Tbf it's a bit of an urban myth. There were a handful of clear works or matches where one competitor was carrying another but Bad never worked a fight in Pancrase. See his second match with Funaki to see how real they were.
@kyleolson279
@kyleolson279 4 жыл бұрын
There were works in early Pancrase (this fight is a shoot) but what happened mainly is the better fighters (Ken, Funaki, Suzuki, etc) would carry the inexperienced guys.

yeah but alot of guys around that time were using. Contracts with pride fc specified that they didn't test for steroids. I know bas didn't use (or at least i believe him when he says he didn't use) but if you believe ken was giving himself an unfair advantage against the majority of his competition you are misleading yourself
@WhytyProd
@WhytyProd 10 жыл бұрын
MrFlemdog Luckily I don't. It was the wild west in Pride, you were probably the odd one out if you werent on something. The OP is referring too an interview from Inside MMA I think. Ken came clean about his steroid use but then said he didnt use while he was competing when he clearly was. Thats all.

Steroids help you while training, so you don't need to roid up directly before a fight for it to give you an unfair advantage.
@dingoleh
@dingoleh 10 жыл бұрын
Pride wasn't the only organization that let ppl use steroids. How come Matt Hughes used to lift ppl up and walk across the cage with them on hi back then slam them to the ground? Mark Coleman, Mark Kerr and Kevin Randellman all looked as if they were on steroids. But the UFC did start testing at some point in between because that steroid look disappeared.
