Great job Master framer Handy! 💕👏👍 But you gotta talk homeowner into ditching the post in the middle of bedroom! 😱 I didnt realize room was so small. That things right in middle. Or maybe a pony wall if one would work in the space. Something to define it

Another great video and I'm commenting because it's been a while and this basement series is fun ; ) The Tapcons suck statement is definitely true Handyman. It was always a crap shoot when I've used them. Sometimes they'd work, and sometimes they didn't. All the best!

I got the Milwaukee 7.25" miter saw when it came out for all of the reasons, and I use it on the floor. Indoors, and I connect my battery vac (have both the M12 fuel and the M18 Fuel) and I don't need to mask, no dust. It has been a workhorse although I have to double check runout for stain grade. Full nerd is when I M18 table saw with a battery vac at the same time. I have a rotohammer and often just sink holes through the sill into the concrete with a Tapcon. Not quite as fast, but not terribly slow either, just the tech that I have in hand. Thanks Handy, make your money.

The Hammer flip is essential in framing! Lol Nice work Handyman!

Love your videos. Just a quick question, why did you not put sill gasket on the bottom plates where they contact concrete. In my area code requires treated bottom plate with sill gasket for moisture barrier.

I’ve always use Ann impact with tap cons. The secret is stop drilling when drill is at proper depth then pull out while drill is not spinning this helps tremendously with screw grip. And of corse the screw length can’t be to short
@AbbreviatedReviews4 ай бұрын
It's interesting that Tapcon is already the default brand name people use for concrete screws and Ramset is the default brand name for concrete nailers, so of course Tapcon made a concrete nailer so everyone can be confused.
@NathanBake4 ай бұрын
You can add a small piece of wire, toothpicks, or zip ties with the Tapcon if they're blown out. I find the wire works best.

I have one of those small Kobalt miter saws. Might be small but it gets the work done!

Good job looks great. I was looking at a basement yesterday and the electric panel had a drain coming out of it lol. I thought i saw everything after 20 years of maintenance and residential side work 😳

Isn't there usually a vapor barrier involved in finished basements like this?

I've got the small 25# Milwaukee with the 7 1/4" blade and I use it all the time. I have the larger 12" Dewalt for larger baseboard trim or for 4x4 posts, but you can't beat the portability of these little saws!

That 4x4 post in the middle of the room has GOT to go. Maybe replace the beam with a couple of fairly short (not tall) glue lams........ or a piece of steel?

I agree with your thoughts. But for this remodel Its not in but budget.

What country is this in because where I am from THAT room cannot be a bedroom because you need 2 points of egress and neither of those windows count
@batoj4 ай бұрын
doesn't the bedroom need a egress window? or it's not officially a bedroom b/c no closet?

Nope.

Look’s like you have 2x10 floor joists above that are spanning about 10’. If that is the case you should not need that post or beam in the middle of the room
@TheHandyman14 ай бұрын
The part where the beam is the joists go out down the hall to another beam. The door way is not load bearing like the lath and plaster wall is.
@BuddyTobyTV4 ай бұрын
@@TheHandyman1 I may be just a dumbdumb on the internet but why couldn’t you just frame a load bearing wall with header at the doorway, and maybe short one on the closet wall if the beam is supporting those joists too, and then scrap the beam and post. It totally kills that room. It seems like it could be knocked out pretty quick. If I was the homeowner, that’s what I’d do. If it wasn’t able to make that work, I’d see if could cut 3 1/2 inches out of every joist across that room and glue up 2-2 x 12s with sandwiched 1/2 in ply, and hang the old joists from it with Simpson ties. Then it could just rest directly on the foundation wall and a stud pack at the end of the closet. But again I’m just a numb nuts on his keyboard watching some jagoff actually do some work.
@TheHandyman14 ай бұрын
I would need to cut up the concrete floor and put in a footer. You can't just put a load bearing wall on a basement floor. It is 20 feet to the next beam opposite the foundation wall in the bedroom.
