Played the launch edition at SNAMM last year. Such a great bass with way too few demos. This, the Wattplower, and Serek Midwestern are the best short scales I've played. As a guitarist/bassist, I'm pleased the short scale market is getting more crowded. Thanks for all the great content, Ed!

G&L should take this format and add a 30" 6 string neck (a la Fender Bass VI) and call it the Fallout Bass VI. I know Leo Fender was working on something like this on his bench right before he died. It would be nice if the string spacing was a little wider than the Bass VI though. Just an idea. G&L, are you listening?

Concern as I almost always use a pick! Otherwise this Bass looks amazing!! I assumed since the pickup is in the middle, I wouldn't hit the pickups while picking and muting. The toggle switch is great!! I like less knobs. It's G & L !! My other choice was the Music Man Sterling Stingray Short Scale, but I like the pickup position, bridge and toggle switch on the G & L. Hopefully this bass will allow me to get some tasty Chris Squire sounds.
@mikespringer26592 жыл бұрын
Geoffery, did you get a Fallout? I'm also concerned as I also primarily play pick style. How'd it work out for you?
@geoffreymerrifield56662 жыл бұрын
@@mikespringer2659 Yes. It is amazing. The recorded tones are great. Works great with a pick. Only drawbacks for me are it's a bit heavy and long (for a short scale), and Drop D is a little flabby. But short scales are notorious for Drop D challenges. Overall, it's a phenomenal Bass.
@mikespringer26592 жыл бұрын
@@geoffreymerrifield5666 Nice! Thanks for the reply. Did you get the tribute, or go with the America made version? I'm seeing a lot of reviews that make it seem the quality difference maybe isn't enough to warrant the price difference and I'm trying to decide whether to go tribute or American made.
@geoffreymerrifield56662 жыл бұрын
@@mikespringer2659 Tribute. Have to share my limited funds with Studio gear, guitar, drums, keys, vocal stuff. Never tried the American version. I bought a Sterling Stingray Short Scale $599 at the same time, and chose the G&L. Wanted to love the Sterling, cause it's lighter and smaller, but it just didn't have the feel, power and tone of the G&L.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but do you need shorter scale strings on a 30" bass? Or can you use the same strings as on a 34" scale bass? Sounds great by the way, and that slap tone is just killer.
@BassWhispererTV4 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all! Yes, you do need short scale strings for 30". A standard length string will have the silk too far up to wrap around the post.

I love G&l and own two basses. Both of them needed shims which was really annoying. I like low, modern action and a fast motown style like you. Did your Fallout Bass need a shim? Leo designed those super tall saddles with a micro tilt in tandem. They removed the micro tilt but kept those super tall saddles. Consequently, if the board is sanded even a little underset, you're in shim town. Some G&L's don't need it and some do. I get unlucky. What about you?
@BassWhispererTV4 жыл бұрын
This bass, and most of the G&Ls I've played in recent years didn't need shims, but then I don't go for super low action. Now, virtually every Fender I've ever owned needed a shim.
@YourFavouriteColor4 жыл бұрын
@@BassWhispererTV yes I do set up pretty low. like .010'' relief and 4/64th-3/64th for bass. I have a similar playing style to you. It's crazy how fast and fluid you can be with medium action. I feel like I need it low to keep it smooth and fast but then again I've only been seriously playing for a couple years. Funny I've only had one or two Fenders that needed shims. The saddles are so short the board would have to be sanded SUPER underset to need a shim on a Fender. I know their QC is all over the map depending on the year though. I guess I got really unlucky with my Saddle locks. Thanks for the reply!

Ed where’d you get the pink I can’t see that one in the product line?

@PhullyNo14 жыл бұрын
Bass Whisperer TV I agree the pink is one of shell pink looking retro fender colors. The racing strip isn’t my favorite I know it’s a mustang look but GL doesn’t need to go that route :)

Hi sir...how's this compare to l1000 clf ?
@BassWhispererTV3 жыл бұрын
They are similarly set up, but the 30 vs. 34 scale is a significant difference. Also, the L1000 has the B/T boost tone controls like the L2000, the Fallout is just a single tone pot... I prefer the B/T personally. That would be the only mod I'd do, but the jack would have to go on the side.

Fine sound. G&L should make a "wunkay edition", with mahogany body, ebony board, and bass/treble/volume controls, 3-way toggle. Lots more sounds, ability to fine-tune both bass and treble, which is really useful. And lose the racing stripes-- not a great intro feature there, those are pretty ugly (opinion) plus have a "kids' bass", "less than pro" vibe. Selling this bass way short.
@BassWhispererTV3 жыл бұрын
Well, I think they just wanted it to be simpler. I do prefer the 1K-style eq, but I'd probably go with Series instead of OMG. I like OMG, but Series is not that much different to my ear, and no single-coil hum.
