You know, Sin Tzu could have been an interesting villain. Since he has the ability to use mind control, Sin Tzu could mind control the mayor of Gotham to declare batman an enemy, leading to a massive manhunt to track down batman. Or, Sin Tzu could use his special abilities to conquer all of Asia, leading to batman traveling to Asia to not only eliminating Sin Tzu, but to help liberate the continent as well. There's a good opportunity to introduce a new batman character with that premise, like an Asian version of batman. BUT, instead, we get this: a beat-em-up where you fight more classic batman enemies than THE VILLAIN THAT IS ADVERTISED ON THE BOX! Granted, it could work, but not in this case. Anyways, good work as always. And I like the Arkham series as well. I didn't realize that batman had a streak of bad games.

Fun fact: Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu is apparently a sequel to Batman Vengeance, despite Vengeance's plot not being referenced in any way, the gameplay being completely different, and the title of the game not hinting at any sort of connection between the two. Now before anyone asks, yes I have heard of stand-alone sequels like Silent Hill 2, But the thing is those games at least have some connection to the previous game, Whereas Rise of Sin Tzu has literally nothing tying it to Vengeance outside of both being made by Ubisoft and Wikipedia's say-so. Hell I would accept it if the title was Batman Vengeance 2: Rise of Sin Tzu. Anyways, sorry for the rant, I just needed to get this off my chest.

Great review Darklord. It was certainly much longer than the last time you tried to review this game. The cake recipe near the end sounds nice, a villain cake. Yum! XDI also liked that Batmobile too, it looked awesome. Would you say that Sin Tzu is a worse villain than Arkman Knight?

I think I'd go for the Arkham Knight being worse than Sin Tzu; at least Sin Tzu accomplished something impressive before he was imprisoned and he's a strong opponent in a fight. The Arkham Knight is... well... you know.

I really like this game! The only downside is that u really have to unlock and upgrade ur fighting moves as u progress and u can't start a new game after ur fight moves are unlocked. I wish there was a Batmobile, Batwing stage! lol. Other than that, i like the game, especially hearing Kevin Conroy's voice! 👍 🎮

Now in terms of the Arkham quadrilogy I honestly think Arkham knight was my least favorite. I mean It was a good game dont get me wrong but at the same time, the story was disappointing with a false advertised main villain. The bosses are the worst part for me though.

The best part about the villain is the game constantly giving you flashbacks to Jason Todd's death. The only flashback that isn't Jason Todd's death is about the Killing Joke, and Joker is dead, so he can't be involved

I hate to call you out on this, but, you're doing it wrong, man. I've read a lot of reviews complaining about the combat system in this game, and unfortunately, it just chalks up to a lack of understanding. The #1 thing people do wrong when they play this game is spam the default attacks (punch, punch, punch and kick, kick, kick). The upgrades screen clearly states that these are the weakest attacks in the game, as well as that they contribute to the combo meter the least, and lack of variety in your attacks will result in both less combo points and currency for upgrades. Spamming a small portion of attacks dominoes into a game over too, because you burn up all of your time. I'm actually impressed you managed to scrape through it, but saying it's boring when you're not using 90% of the mechanics is frustrating to hear. If you want to see this game done right, on hard, no deaths, check out the playthrough on my channel. I can't go over everything in this comment, but hopefully, if you're interested, things will become clearer upon watching it. I'm only saying this because I'm tired of people knocking on one of my favorite games without understanding it fully. I don't think you're a bad reviewer or anything like that, you just didn't give the game enough of a chance. If you choose to master it, it's fun and challenging to try and work in all of the knowledge and moves and your disposal to win. It's a very intelligent beat-em-up, and playing it in the usual way most beat-em-ups are played really tarnishes how much better it is to play it the correct way.

+SAClassHunterZero This is a game where you definitely need the instructions, because even using the more powerful attacks in each character's arsenal you still dish out damage way too slowly to beat the timers unless you use the combo attacks liberally when you fill up the combo meter- I was only able to scrape through the game playing as Batman because without knowledge of the combo meter- which the game itself never tells you- he's the only person with the damage output to make it through levels in time; and that's if you just abuse the "chain attacks" (I don't know what to call them where one combo lets you immediately launch into another one) like I did. My point there is- at least on the difficulties that I was playing- the combo attacks are so powerful they render the game extremely easy, so you're either stuck being underpowered or overpowered with no in-between. Again- this probably changes on higher difficulties as you said, but if the game is only balanced on the hardest difficulties that points to a flaw in the game design. I see your point- I just ask that you consider mine.

***** Could the game have done a better job for explaining the ropes? Sure. Aside from the detailed move descriptions on the upgrades screen, all the game has is a hint screen on the pause menu. It goes over everything, but it is just a bunch of reading; not very intuitive. "the combo attacks are so powerful they render the game extremely easy" I don't get why this is your main point for why the game is supposedly too easy. To me, a better reason is because the game throws more health and lives at you than you know what to do with, to the point where the only way I can challenge myself is going for a no-death run on the highest difficulty, which only changes how much health you have to boot. Super moves are just super moves. They kill enemies a little bit faster than regular moves, but they don't make the game brainless in and of themselves. Is the game too easy? Maybe a little, but learning how to execute all of the chain attacks and managing groups of enemies was challenging and rewarding for me, because I wanted to use and master every move. I feel like how much enjoyment people will get out of this game is dependent on how much of the moveset they want to memorize and learn. If you want something simpler, like Batman Returns or Double Dragon, this game's probably not your cup of tea. Still, I think the game just has a higher learning curve than most, but once you reach the top, you don't even need to use super moves if you don't want to, except on the bosses that can only take damage from them. And it won't just be scraping by to beat the timers, either.

SAClassHunterZero I don't want to drag this out, but when you say the only way to challenge yourself is to do a no-death run on the highest difficulty and you essentially admit the special moves are too powerful but you don't have to use them; that is you handicapping yourself to improve the experience of a game that was not well balanced in the first place. An early game I reviewed: Batman Beyond Return of the Joker- was a beat-em-up with the same problem: the game was difficult unless you used the Defense Suit and the game suggested that experienced players just not use the defense suit. Unless you are exerting effort and willing yourself to like a game that lacks challenge most players are going to use every power-up at their disposal rather than shoot themselves in the foot to balance out the game.

First off, I was using the example of playing the game without the use of super moves to show that they're not overpowered, because they're not actually necessary, let alone a crutch. They really are just a faster way to do something. Second, I've been playing this game for years, I've definitely mastered it, so saying it's too easy because of how much I have to handicap myself is a moot point. Any game can feel easy when you've mastered it; that doesn't mean it was easy for me or others the first time. Third, you're clearly projecting your own expectations when it comes to difficulty. Just because you find something too easy doesn't make it a lesser experience. You want to be challenged, and when a game doesn't challenge you, you dock it points. Why? Does every game need to be ball-bustingly hard? Isn't it okay for a game to be just fun and not too challenging sometimes? Fourth, your mere use of the word 'overpowered' is questionable at best. The only reason the moves are overpowered to you is because of two things: Your inability to use basic moves well, and your pre-conceived notions of how difficult a game should be. The way I see it, you're obviously frustrated with the the fact that you don't know how to use all of the basic moves, so you've given up on those and focussed on the super moves, and to you, they seem too good because they're the only way you can be effective enough as a player. In reality, I know for a fact that the basic moveset for any character works quite well, and proper use of it allows you to be plenty effective, super moves are just the cherry on top; sometimes I forget that I even have them, I'm so un-reliant on them to win. Basically, you've taken one of my favorite games, said it's poorly designed with an incomplete understanding of how both the moves and mechanics work, and then lambasted it as being 'too easy' because you could scrub your way to the ending anyway. Of course you're going to be bored, frustrated, whatever, you aren't playing the game to its fullest. It's like playing Halo without using melee attacks or grenades, or playing Mario Galaxy without the advanced jump moves. No one is stopping you from doing it, but it's hard to take you seriously when you say you didn't like it because you don't even have the whole perspective. Now, even if you had, and you said you didn't like the game, I'd be cool with that. But don't go trashing a perfectly fun and playable game because you don't understand it.

Yeah weapon of mass destruction, like derailing a train with a nuclear missile on it with the bat mobile isn't bad (it was an arcade game where you play as batman in the bat mobile, with the option of using all incarnations of said bat mobile from the movies and games, including using the dark knight batwing to take out anti air turrets (that look like they'd fit on a military space ship by their size alone!), and the missile was taken by joker, How the hell did he get one!? if it was from an abandoned cold war missile facility, it would make sense). also a lot of times when i came out of the batcave, i get shot and damaged by small arms fire when i land behind a car with standard henchmen (the guns are either shotguns, assault rifles or machine gun turrets, HOW THE HELL DOES SMALL ARMS FIRE DAMAGE THE BATMOBILE!? the armor is a lot thicker that it should easily take it with no problem, i get it if it was the turrets, that are on the backs of pickup trucks, but not standard gun that any gun store would have! there are 3 bosses/villains to take down, the joker, Mr.freeze, and Bane, both on easy and hard mode, respectively.

YAY!!! More DLJ!! This is a perfect way to celebrate my graduating with my MBA. Thanks for posting this, DLJ, I've never seen this piece of shit, and I'm glad I skipped over this as a kid. I remember it very vividly at Blockbuster for the Gamecube. I was too busy trying to play GTA Vice City at the time, which was 2002. What a piece of shit. Sin Tzu is a garbage villan. I do love the return of The Grinch, btw. I missed that.

This review is comical. 1st. you're supposed to upgrade your combos in the store and this includes power combos; throughout this entire video you use the basic mash A and mash B combos. 2nd. the game is supposed to punish you for not making the time limit. 3rd. the game has a move list that tells you how to do the combos. 4th. you're supposed to use the more advanced moves because the later enemies take more damage. 5th. About the captains, you should make use of the block and the roll; when you verse more than one captain that is just difficulty and you need to use your skills and adapt to the challenge.
