I'm having a Volvo XC40 next month on Mobility as my 2007 Alpina D3 is getting too difficult for me to use. I'm really OCD with my cars and this sort of stuff really boils my piss. I will treat the Volvo like it's my own. I appreciate what the charity does to help people like me.

You lads were very right in what you said in the video about if it’s this bad with the car then what’s the house like. The wheelchair scrapes and maybe the odd small dent can be forgiven and I mean with regards to the difficulty that the disability presents but the car was rotten, uncared for and actually vandalised. BTW Dave, to give you guys kudos, I’d buy a car from you in heartbeat, very honest team you have. I’m a bit far away though what with living in Belfast.. Keep the videos coming, the day trips out videos are class..

Can't believe someone mistreats their car this badly. Wonder how badly it has been maintained. Loving the content and videos.
@garypage88527 ай бұрын
It’s not a question of mistreatment, it’s where somebody who is a full-time wheelchair user is getting their wheelchair in and out of the car the only way they are able to independently, this type of damage is typical for a full-time wheelchair user although saying that normally I’ve only ever seen it on the door sills not the leading edge of the passenger door although I can understand how that has happened, with all cars moving to an SUV platform it makes life more difficult for people who cannot walk, to get into a vehicle independently as these vehicles are higher up so once you are sat in the seat, you have to lean down to get your wheelchair frame to drag it in and over yourself onto the passenger seat This is likely where the side bolster of the seat has become worn and the foam has deteriorated over that period of time.

Really Pisses me off when I see Motability cars that have been treated like this. My wife is disabled and has a Motability car but it’s looked after like our own car and is kept spotless inside and out. When there due to be returned we even have a full valet carried out. Motability even encourage you to look after the car by giving you a good condition payment back when the cars are returned after 3 years.

The reward payment for not treating your car like crap confirms everything I've always suspected. Even motability recognise they're renting cars to sub prime people
@garypage88527 ай бұрын
I sat & watched this with interest, and listened to your comments, but at the same time resisting the temptation to turn off. The damage to the drivers sill, drivers side rear door (where it meets the drivers door), the doorcard & the seat bolster damage are all the results of a full time wheelchair user getting their chair in & out of the car. This is all acceptable damage to Motability as when you keep dragging a chair over your body in & out of the car in all weathers, you are going to get damage on the car. I'm lucky I can walk a bit so my chair goes in the boot but the user of this car doesn't have that option. You can try & cover everything in cloths or blankets to try & protect everything but trust me it makes like a million times harder (I've had to drag my chair in & out the car this way on my bad days), I accept everyone treats their cars differently but I'm sure the previous keeper didn't cause the damage on the car with any intent, but then this was why the car was cheap (you said as much in the video). I suspect the seat base is from the way the person gets in & out of the car. Just a thought for you; if someone you know has a wheelchair you can use, sit in it, transfer to the car, without putting any weight through your legs & then put the chair in the car, or have a try....... It's not easy, especially not an SUV, the big disadvantage for full time wheelchair users is being higher up & having to lift your chair up & across, I much preferred a regular car for this. That said it will be stunning when done & I might even be interested myself

Thank you for explaining, I didn’t realise at the time that it was to do with the wheelchair, I think at one point myself and James thought a dog had been scratching at the door.

The drivers seat bolster has been damaged by the dog( probably large breed) using it as a springboard to jump over to the passenger side front seat. Claws scratched the kick plate(needs painting), front legs of the dog using the drivers seat as leverage to jump over to the front seat where it was allowed to chew the door card. Nowt to do with the drivers weight i reckon, but everything to do with someone who doesn't give a damn about other peoples property

Hi . I’ve a customer who’s in a wheelchair and he has to scoot up to his car (mobility Volvo) he has to get right against the car (so rear door gets it) then he has to get in , dismantles his chair , drags it in and across the sills trying to avoid the steering wheel then puts it on the passenger seat (against the door card) . Looking at your car it’s probably been owned by someone similar

I worked at a dealership, we did motability, there's almost never an undamaged panel. Motability is a typical "charity scam" they take the benefits payment, keep most of it, then dump the cars into the aftermarket. They amassed £2.4 billion, describing it as a buffer. The owners treat the cars like shite because the taxpayer is paying. Motability cars are not only bought by the taxpayer, we pay for all service and maintenance, insurance breakdown, the only thing the user has to do is put fuel in it.
@garypage88527 ай бұрын
I don’t think Motability is a charity scam, how do you come to the conclusion? I had a very lengthy conversation with a member of Motability staff face-to-face recently and he were very openly explained to me that during the Covid time where they were selling de-fleeted vehicles, and they were getting far more than The anticipated future value of the vehicle, Motability being a charity and a not for profit organisation were left with far more money than they were allowed to keep, so they came up with a decision that from 2022 everybody ordering a new scheme vehicle or a new scheme scooter as they do scooters as well as vehicles) would get a one off payment £750 if you ordered a new vehicle, I forget what the payment was if you ordered a new scooter, but everybody was given a payment. This way Motability were able to share the excess funding they had with all of their members, and new members. Motability is a two sided operation; One side of the business Motability finance Limited provides the financing for all of the vehicles, the other side of the business is a charity and this is the side of the business that provides grants to disabled people to allow them to remain mobile. There was a time in the 90s and early 2000s where the business from Motability kept many small dealerships in business, cars in this condition are an exception the majority of cars are returned in extremely good condition, there is a used car dealer local to me for example who buys all of his stock at Motability auctions and the vast majority of it is all low mileage and very good condition, needing very little doing before it can go on sale
@brutusoftroy28107 ай бұрын
@@garypage8852 I was eating and breathing Motability for years, beyond what you can get from a lengthy conversation. They are great company to deal with and always pay but....They were exposed by UK gov. They, as a listed charity, receive £2 billion of tax payers money per year via DWP. They've been hoarding millions per year for decades and have £2.4 billion of tax payers money in their bank so far.

@Turn123358 ай бұрын
Generally speaking, motability cars are treated poorly by the drivers compared to lease cars. In this case, the driver has allowed the dog to jump to the front passenger seat from the drivers side. This has resulted in the kick plate being heavily scratched which requires painting. The dog then has butchered the door card. This driver doesn't give a damn because its not his/her car. They just give it back and don't get penalsied like a lease car driver. Ask anyone in the trade. Its nowt to do with wheelchair use mate. It's that as everything is included (insurance, tax, servicing etc), and many motability drivers wouldn't typically get finance for a 40k car like this, they simply don't look after them. Not all of them of course, but typically more than lease/pcp
@taxidmac59078 ай бұрын
Talking rubbish m8 that is just sheer neglect on owners part and for life of me why would a wheel chair user want a suv surely better with estate motor ability is so badly abused and should be given a limit cap to spend ie 20k

@@taxidmac5907 as my wife is also a wheelchair user I can confirm just how much easier a raised ride height makes getting into and out of a vehicle. They don't need just a big boot! But absolutely agree that damage is more dog jumping around than wheelchair
@cardealerpro8 ай бұрын
The car doesn’t actually look that bad in the video but if you see it in person the car has been completely wrecked, if it was just on the drivers door the scratches then fair enough but it’s been bumped on every corner, rear light cracked, door card wrecked from a dog, seats ripped,smells horrific, seat carpets ripped, It’s nothing against wheelchair users just this one didn’t have much respect for a car that lots of people could never afford in a lifetime.
@jimmyjt168 ай бұрын
Nothing to do with a wheelchair. That car has been abused by someone who couldn’t care less about someone else’s property, very likely motorbility. You expect a few scratches, but this one has been wrecked.
