Nice viewing. Love your sense of humour and 'normality' . Was hoping you might go Hebden Bridge way, but it would appear not. Memories of Burnley, where we bought a caravan on our trip from NZ in 2016. We stayed in Mythomroyd for the first few days, loved it. Keep up the great filming.

Blackburn is a fine town with plenty of improvements going on. It is the birth place of Alfred Wainwright who mapped many paths in the Lake District and wrote several books on the subject. I am not from Blackburn but live on the outskirts not far from Church. So Leeds Liverpool canal means a lot to me. Glad you made this vlog, a grand adventure robbie. Great music.

Hey Robbie, It was great to see your float thru Blackburn. I have heard the worse about the place. One friend of mine said he was down in his weed hatch 10 different times just to get through. No matter what you hear you have to keep trying it. Some people have bad times down there. If that's the case, above all I say above all stay away. They have to know that those situations are real but not always are they 100% gonna happen. You can jump through the hoops sometimes, without any bad stuff happening. I am a narrowboat owner who was born in Backburn. I plan on retuning this summer to do the Leeds Liverpool. When I do I am gonna check out the Calypso! Hope I see you on the cut my friend. Mike

Great film Rob. I was the boater you passed as you came out of the tunnel in Burnley. I was moving my boat after leaving it in Burnley for a couple of weeks. When i returned to it some scaly had tried to break in the front , tried taking the front scratch off and setting my tip box on fire !! I have struggled to get good footage on that section of canal with my go pro due to bad weather each time i have cruised it. I was going to film it the day we passed but was really fed up with the damage. Now we know we are both filming it would be funny to pass like they did in naked gun 33 & 1/3 ........I loved you in wall street !!!!

Burnley is a great place generally for boaters i have stayed over there loads of times and have never had any problem. I will stay there again in the cute but only when i am on the boat. The mooring where you stayed at the bottom of the locks are good but the view from the moorings above the locks are better.

On leaving the Gannow tunnel you pass the so called weavers triangle and Slater terrace. All worth a look if you like to see our industrial heritage. Next is the embankment where you are high above Burnley town centre. Did you spot the Bank Hall arm which served the colliery for many years. Barrowford locks bring you to the summit pool of the L L canal. Beautiful walks around here. The gates you opened with your boat I helped to fit about 40 yrs ago. Made the footbridge as well. Views from the off side of the canal are towards pendle hill

You could film in the rain with a Gopro and have no worries about it getting wet. Or just mount it on the front of your boat to show views forward and mix them with your normal shots in your videos. #1 I'd be surprised if you had used the magnet more, after you found what you where looking for int the canal. :) #2 How come non (as far as I've seen) of you boaters have light alongside your boat when passing a tunnel? You light up inside to get light outside. Isn't that a little bit odd?
@TheFilwud
@TheFilwud 4 жыл бұрын
In tunnels we use the tunnel light at the front/pointy bit/bow, we also turn on all interior lights to improve visibility at the sides and shut the aft/blunt end/stern door to reduce glare and give the helmsman/steerist/wielder of the colliding spoon/me usually the best chance of seeing where they are trying to go. At the end of the day, you ain't going to get lost, just scratch the paint, I hope the tunnels still have enough strength to survive a boat brushing along them.

@@RobbieCumming Thanks Robbie, I did, interesting, I didn't know there about the exception for narrowboats on canals. Just proves, you're never too fat to learn! As someone who only gets to play with hire boats we aren't allowed to move in darkness and my exploits in square riggers and yachts are definitely not applicable to canals!

I should think that foulridge tunnel was among the best names for any tunnel -- foul. Ick. Now as to your ruminations about what a strange life, I can say that your life is, indeed, strange. By definition 2. a : not before known, heard, or seen : unfamiliar and b : exciting wonder or awe : extraordinary. Your life is strange.

What is it you actually do for a job that allows you to spend so much time on the boat?
@RobbieCumming
@RobbieCumming 6 жыл бұрын
It’s actually the other way around! Because of the boat I am forced to take time off!! Which means I’m poor but certainly not bored. 3 days a week I have to work as a PR for garden products -the Liverpool video has a bit more info. 8^)

Im from East Lancashire and I'm ott sure what you think Lancashire is like, but it's not The Wild West. Yes, Blackburn and Burnley have seen better days but you can blame successive govts for destroying manufacturing and subsequent recessions fir running towns like those down. The people of these towns are no different from anywhere else, in fact far friendlier than your southerners who turn their nose up at anywhere North of Watford. 😆

i like you and your channel and think you mean well, but is barging a lock gate open a respectful thing to do? or is that quite a normal thing for canal people? just feel like if everyone who watched this started doing that... might kinda make things harder for everyone in the long term.
@RobbieCumming
@RobbieCumming 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks - it’s funny if you ask traditional working boats or even boatmen and women of the past they would think nothing of that sort of thing. Personally I barge it open with respect for the craftsmanship, never with malicious intent I hope that at least comes across in my videos. I do take care elsewhere such as with picking up litter, cutting back vegetation and oiling lock paddles. Seems too much like virtue signalling so I don’t usually film those moments. Maybe I should.
