Pannier does have a somewhat 'unfair' advantage given it's customised nature and sound chip (I'm saying this although it is my absolute favourite) as well as the fact that it was probably the most memorable video I've seen on this channel and one I still rewatch regularly, this is likely to be the reason why I felt so strongly about it being the best before these tests had even started but it's performed really well and for the aesthetics factor particularly in this heritage test it is unrivalled.

Excellent video! Thoroughly enjoyed the series. I agree that the pannier is just superb and actually looks right in front of the rake of coaches. I have seen similar locos on duty on heritage lines, and they do a great job.

I would like to point out the LMS coaches on the bluebell are sleeper coaches used for staff accommodation and are not suitable for service or even to be moved! however you are correct the most lines are not so strict, Severn valley has LNER coaches.

Great video as per usual. Heritage railway models do allow a great variety. The Hornby coach is a Maroon mark 1 that came with the Hogwarts Castle set usually I believe mate. The panniers and 14s are amazing, I have four of each (not obsessive at all!) Superb work! All the best, Jack

IC 82, my Jinty is a brand new one and by hornby. And doesn't scream at all. I find it very quiet.

Great video Will. Top 5 in my view: 1st Class 14 2nd The pannier tank 3rd Bachmann class 08 (Because it runs smooth and performed very well) 4th Hornby class 08 (Because is performed well) 5th The sentinel shunter.

The best value for the money was the Hornby Railroad Range version /class 08 chipped with DCC which came with the Mixed Goods train set. We want good looking locos that run good on our layout, and we are watching the budget.

for the next part of the battle of the shunters you should try having a banking challenge :-) pushing a heavy train up an incline (thinking of the Lickey incline when they used to have Pannier Tanks stationed as bankers :-) )

The pannier was definitely a lovely run thanks to its looks and soundchip. But the show was very nearly stolen by the bits of comedy with the Premium Gronk derailment and the uncoupling shenanigans with the Class 14. That was priceless XD Good to hear the Jinty and the Pug will get a service and their fair shot at the trials, just to show what they can do when they're well. Thomas would also have looked good on that train, and he certainly wouldn't have struggled. Also, regarding the derailment... I guess I'm lucky. The E-Z track points are fancy; if a train hits points that are against it like that, they temporarily force them into their favor.

Frankly not adjusting the points to the main line is an unforgivable sin in the real world, suitable for a sacking if not hefty court cases for negligence. The first rule for railroad operations is to set the points for the main line before departing a shunting operation.

Hey IC82 just to let you know I have HO scale train set by ROCO and the points have metal pieces so that it doesn't kill the loco and the track is great with grey plastic ballast and the controler is excelent but theres only one problem only digital trains like DCC can only run on the track most model stuff is Hornby and Bachmann plus the Bachmann class 47 is a nice runner and a nice intercity livery .

Have you ever tested Hornby Thomas's strength before if you haven't I've found a video that has it. It's called Hornby Thomas vs Bachmann Thomas. Hornby Thomas can pull 11 coaches. Bachmann Thomas can pull 5 coaches.

Will You didnt take into account the type of motor, 3 pole, 5 pole, coreless. open frame, can, pancake/ ringfield. those are major factors in choosing an engine too.

Swindon loco designs for the win then. If I'm honest out of all the shunters the Swindon pair do look the part and perform to a really high standard. Maybe a battle of the Black 5 and Castle next ....... Or would that be unfair.

oh. and im one of those people that doesnt have a pocket rocket from hornby. wish i did but being an american and living in america is a real pain in the royal hind quarters especially since it cost more of my money to buy something from hornby than it would cost any british person. for instance i think the new princess elizebeth that hornby released a few months ago costs 250 british pounds and that comes out to 332 united states dollars. yeah majorly expensive for both parties involved here but you still can get what im saying im pretty sure
