I forgot how well written the introduction was. It set the scene, introduced excellent characters and started a brilliant story without making it an exposition dump. They don’t do sci fi like this anymore.

I love how for about the first 3 minutes of tens of people moving around the ship is actually shot in one continuous shot with no hidden cuts. It's easy not to pay attention to this stuff when you're just watching a story and that's okay.. you're not supposed to notice these things and pay your attention to the story and performance. But when you do take a step back and notice it, it makes the show that much more impressive.

I love how the colour of the panels change as the series goes on, this is most noticeable in the CIC, where in S1 it’s a clean white/blue, and by S4 it’s a yellowed/orange

Today, as a Naval Tradition, whether a ship is going into mothballs, turned into a museum ship, or broken apart ships are brought back to their highest standard before their decommissioning. It helps determine if they go into the ghost fleet (ready reserve) or if they are turned into razor blades. I decomm'ed two ships when I was in the Navy.

The miniseries originally aired in two parts on two nights, it gained more audience the second night, which is extremely rare, usually smaller audience for part two of typical miniseries. This made it easy for the go ahead for the continuing series.

I prefered the UNSC Everest, Valiant Class Super Heavy Cruiser, flagship of Admiral Preston J Cole, however, Galactica is one of the top 10s, I do prefer the look of the Valkyrie Class Battlestars from the reimagined BSG series.

2:12 It is so eery to see Galactica's hallways not cluttered with salvaged equipment and the CIC still clean and brightly light, her younger crew with so much joy and a carefree attitude in their stride and mind while the old like Cmdr. Adama himself linger in the twilight of peace having lasted too long. We can clearly see that he knew the Cylon's would someday return when he is briefed about the the surprise attack later on

Looking back you can guess at the emotions that Adama must have felt when he opened the picture. Pride at the respect of his crew and sadness about the loss of his family to death(his youngest son), divorce (his wife) and anger (his other son who blamed him for the death of Zack). I am sure that painting really hit him harder than he let on.

I think the drum intro for Galactica in the score for B&C references this scene too. I was so lucky to have seen the mini when it first aired as I was completely unaware it existed and had somehow missed all announcements and marketing for this show. I know it's only 5 minutes in but even by this scene I could tell this was gonna be something wonderful and amazingly different to anything we had seen before. Forever grateful and congrats to all involved.

Fun fact: The producers were constantly telling the production teams to save money. They wanted them to be more efficient and to "cut corners" to do this. They really harped on this. As retaliation, the props department made that decision that all papers would have the corners cut off. Every sheet of paper (hell, even the hard cover books) had the corners cut off 😂

I watched this live in 2003 and had a group of friends over with my Sony WEGA Trinitron and Surround Sound System like the nerd I am. We were all blown away by the mini-series, and knew it was going to be something different. The opening dropped you in but helped you understand the world, the language, the main characters within a few minutes. Some of the dialogue, sound design, camera work, and visual effects were pretty literally never seen before at this quality before BSG on non-premium cable television.

In the fighter battle Adama contacts Starbuck and says "Starbuck, what do you hear?" she the hears debris hitting her cockpit canopy and says "Nothin but the rain." apparently it a way of saying return to base.

Joey Eve Agreed. Too many poor decisions towards the end. Killing off great characters is one thing, but having them be senseless deaths (Dualla) or require characters to seem to change into a different character (Gaeta) is what bothered me. Still love the show, but elements could have been handled better.

I'll be honest. The original pilot movie/episode didn't completely thrill me. Looked great, but story moved a bit slow and some of the character changes/motivations were a bit hard to get used too. Basically, I could take it or leave it. When the series came out, I didn't catch it until a few episodes in when word of mouth got back to me as to how great it was. Glad I went back to it. One of the greatest SciFi series ever made.

Even if they werent torn apart by a basestar fleet, they wouldve only gotten information of an imminent attack, nothing about the CNP backdoor that wiped out the entire fleet, and as such similar events would've transpired

My favorite is Starbuck's, "MAKE A HOLE!" If you know, you know. Pretty much any vet, or vet's spouse, or kid, or pretty much anyone who has lived near a military post, knows that that's a polite way of saying, "GET THE F**K OUT OF THE WAY!" I'm also consistently surprised how many people know what, "Where's the head at?" means. Aside from one young lady, who took umbrage because she thought I was soliciting for, well, you know what.

Making it a plot point that all the tech is outdated was so genius because even in 2020, none of the early 2000s designed futuristic-ish tech looks bad/seems out of place bc it's literally canonically supposed to be old looking by any day standards
