I started Muay Thai last year and I'm comfortable shadow boxing at work, in public, anywhere. My issue was exactly this. Tees, knees, elbows, everything I could throw smoothly except for roundhouses and leg kicks. For me to even attempt a leg kick, I'd need the side of a wall, pole or garbage can (As if it was a bag) I feel like I look silly when I truly try to practice my round kicks so when in public I stick to boxing combos, mix in some teeps, crane kicks, pivots, level changes etc So thank you for this!

Hey Joe, I am 30 and started learning striking some weeks ago, since I cannot do grappling these days. Thankfully I live with my girlfriend, who is very good at Muay Thai and teaches me with a lot of patience. Your videos really help me make the most out of it and provide a detailed assistance to my learnings. I really like how you speak in a calm tone, stay to the point and convey all necessary information for a single lesson in an adequate amount of time. Thank you so much for doing this. I will start looking if your merchandise ships to germany.

Appreciate the reminder to train both stances. In lockdown there are no excuses not to do both sides.

Joe, much respect for showing some love to the TKD Snap Roundhouse Kick! I do both Muay Thai and TKD and it is a very misunderstood but very effective kick.
@mpg39464 жыл бұрын
Its misunderstood because lots of TKD schools don't teach it for power and many combat athletes don't train for the hip dexterity to pull the technique off. Which is funny since if you look at MMA you'll see many snap head kick KOs.

Amazing video , just like a teacher told me once. Lack of control is not just bad technique but sometimes also hurt your knees.

Cut kick was amazing. I have been following your tutorials last 2 years. Learning a lot.This is one of the kick requires lot of flexibility .
@undercover54894 жыл бұрын
Kicking high is more a conditioning/strenght thing rather than a flexibility thing ;D as a beginner you tend to kick down because you are not able to hold up your hips in the right position.

@@undercover5489 100% true.Its all about hip and adductor strength and mobility.

Its worth looking at TKD and trad martial arts training and kicking drills. They do a good job of getting you those high kicks. BUT the snap kick can be used for low kicks too. Especially if you're going for the inside thigh.

When he kicks seems like hulk is going to smash, remember that in tkd we do pivot the foot, but we keep a 90 degree pivot
@214warzone4 жыл бұрын
I thought they normally return to the Starting Position in TKD kicks. They don't follow through like Muay Thai, right?
@mpg39464 жыл бұрын
@@214warzone There are follow through round kicks (turning kicks) in Taekwondo (depending in which style). ITF has a head high round kick similar to the MT style high kick. But in MT you also have the pivot too on some round kicks. There's more cross over in techniques than you'd imagine. Its in the philosophy and orthodox strategies were the differences tend to really lie.

@JoeySkate244 жыл бұрын
Do kettlebell swings or just practice kicking with full speed/force + full speed retraction of the leg (please just do it after a very good warmup because otherwise you will get injured)

You can actually these setups in some of joe's fights, i happened to find this one prior to watching and his last round explanation rings esp true; setup punches to get yer opponent to cover high and then BLAST kick: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIWuYnatbd10npo&ab_channel=BazookaJoeValtellini | Bazooka Joe Valtellini vs. Medhi Baghdad Highlights

When throwing taekwondo snap kick can i use my shin
@juandenz20084 жыл бұрын
No problem ! I see a lot of MMA fighters using that style of kick and striking with the shin (I assume you are talking about the round kick, not a front kick).
@mpg39464 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The secret to power in the snap TKD style kick is the quickness of the snap. As long as you get that super fast acceleration from knee to instep, along with some body rotation, whatever tool you strike with will do damage. B ut the TKD kicks takes more hip strength, flexibility and mobility.
