I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid, and I still love it. I prefer it much more over Disney's new version.
@IzayoiArwena2 жыл бұрын
Yes I think its more kid friendly and more accurate with the book. The dwarf is a cute boy here, so fluffy that I want to play with his beard. And The Disney is an old Gollum motherfucker. Tumnus song is happy and Disney is sad and dark. Actually both are amazing because of different reasons. Was so obsessed with Narnia when it first came out

I know, the nostalgia of this series cannot be matched, but that doesn't mean the Disney version was bad at all. For example, I love the interpretations of the White Witch in BOTH films. Barbara Kellerman's over the top performance was quite entertaining, and Tilda Swinton's subtlety gave the witch a very eerie and intimidating expression. I saw very little difference in the Aslan's between the 2 performances, both Liam Neeson and William Todd Jones made Aslan seem very wise and powerful, although to be honest, I'd HAVE to give the edge to the BBC version on that one. Simply because the puppetry was so impressive, and really added a strong element to the performance.
@capnhawkins5 жыл бұрын
Don't forget Ronald Pickup, he did the voice of Aslan for the BBC one. He gave Aslan's voice a wise, regal quality.

People seem to either love or hate Kellerman's witch. I like the victory speech, the witch relishing every moment with no silly tough-talk like Swinton was stuck with. And don't anyone knock that lion puppet, either. I loved that lion as a child. I still think it's a fantastic puppet. You can't expect a puppet to look 100% realistic!

Barbara Kellerman's performance as the White Witch reminds me of Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest - does anyone else see it? It's almost like she was directed to play the part like Kabuki Theatre. Completely stylized in her voice and gesture. I'd be fascinated to read an interview with Ms Kellerman discussing her approach to the role.

Honestly, this is an old TV- show and if some people don't like old special effects etc. then don't watch it. I think it's brilliant because it brings back memories from my childhood. Sure the effects aren't as good as they are now, but what do you expect from a show that's 20 years old. I'd watch this version rather than the new one any day!

The ending of chapter 5 is quite upsetting and I still remember the ending of the chapter from when I first watched it 11 years ago in primary school in year 1 and it unsettled me a bit I think and it’s because Aslan didn’t deserve to die at all and the scene before his death unsettled me because he didn’t look unwell at all and the scene before is quite touching really with Susan, Lucy and Aslan and it showed that they had their full trust in him and they did love him for who he was and they believed in him.

Let's see: I've counted two or three hags, two guys will skull faces, one minotaur, one ogre, maybe four or five dwarfs, and a couple of out of place characters like a barbarian, a dark samurai, a bat-woman-thing, and two guys with reptile heads. Okay, I don't care what anyone says, but... seriously, the White Witch in this version of Narnia is just too ridiculous. Even Voldemort in Harry Potter is more subtle than she is. It's just so over-the-top, and... she's batshit insane. I hate when they must make villains with such big problems with their temper. The Disney version of her might not be perfect, but... it's better than this, if you ask me.

I agree. All versions have something I like and don't care for. For example, I prefer the the actors and actresses in leafy and flowery costumes here over the CGI nymphs in the films, and I like the costumed hags over the more bird-like ones in the film. However I think the centaurs and mermaids in the recent films are just AWESOME! All versions have good dwarfs. The fauns and satyrs are a toss up. I like the CGI goat legs, but the satyrs in the films looked a little too furry-ish.

I like both adaptions, INCLUDING the original animated version too. They are all unique and different in their own way. There are things in the new version not touched upon in this version, and there are things in this version not touched upon in the new version. The new version adds a bit more depth to the characters though. Such as Susan, in the new one is more "trying to be the grown up".

I prefer this Lucy over the new one a thousand times (sorry, I just didn't like the remakes because they spolied the original stories in my opinion, specially "Prince Caspian")... On the other hand, there's a lot of Gospel in this part of the story (in the whole story, actually)... The best of the seven books of Narnia is the way Lewis explained the foundations of christian faith so easily, that a very young child can understand them. Aslan's death is a remarcable example.

Yes, basically.
