In Bead Rolling Kick Plates #2 you will see how to make a top die from scratch. I will be using the lathe to true a piece of ½ inch plate, reduce it's width by 1/16 inch, and see the use of a radios turning attachment I have made for my lathe. There will also be a little TIG welding. I will also be showing the use of skate board wheels as bottom dies on your beading machine.

I just acquired a LESSON MOTOR with a gearbox with a chain sprocket and can't wait to get that hooked up to my EASTWOOD bead roller . I need a foot controller and I have a reverse switch for the motor also. Fun times ahead.
@jerekirkpatrick2092
@jerekirkpatrick2092 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Again: You can find the foot switch at McMaster Carr along with any other pieces you may need to complete your machine. Making the top shaft movable is almost a must for aligning dies. And the quick clamp makes resetting the dies a snap. In my plans along with the DVD you can see how to accomplish both of the modifications. Look in the description of this video and you will see a link to my web sight. Click on that and in my sight click on Plans and DVD's. Having these plans will save you a lot of time figuring things out. There are also part numbers and contact information for the parts you will need. Don't forget to cut a keyway in the shafts so the dies don't slip under load. Indeed. Fun times are about to begin. Send me a picture when the project is complete. Jere

I like to see how "triple bead" dies are made , like the corrugated beads we often see on food cans, I wonder if three of washers you made as dies would work.
@jerekirkpatrick2092
@jerekirkpatrick2092 4 жыл бұрын
Hi DD: Yes using several washers in series would work. Depending on the thickness of the material being worked. You could make one or two beads and then move over the proper amount and make as many as you would like. As for the diameter of the shafts you mentioned in the spacer video. The major diameter of the shafts is 1". They are 7/8" at the end where the dies fit and the dies are 7/8". Therefore no adapters are needed. Thanks for the questions. Jere

Hello Curtis: If you use a hi speed steer tool bit there should be no problem. Carbide inserts don't like an interrupted cut. If you are asking about the hardness of the material to be cut, watch my video on heat treating bead roller dies and learn how to use a file to determine the hardness of the material you would like to machine. Great question. Thanks for watching. Hope you subscribed. Jere

how did u straighten the piece after it started curving ?
@jerekirkpatrick2092
@jerekirkpatrick2092 5 жыл бұрын
Hello Mrtws63: The pieces came out straight once the beads were rolled an equal distance from each side. The ones that had a curve were not kept centered while rolling the bead. I hope this answers the question. Thanks for watching. Jere

Hi Tom: Some call it a radius turning tool and some call it a ball turning tool. If you go to my You Tube channel and click on "videos" you will find a 3 part series on the tool. Thanks for watching and please subscribe. Jere

Thanks Stevan. I think you are wanting the plans for the radius turning tool. They are complete and have bin printed and ready to go. This next week I will be shooting a complimentary video to go along with the plans like I did for the bead roller plan set. If you are in the US you can give me a call in about two weeks and I can let you know if they are ready for sale. Shortly after I finish the video for the plans I will be making a video specifically on the radius tool showing it's features. Thanks for your interest. Jere PS Computer was down last week.

Great project, thanks for sharing. Yes I enjoy the tool making as much as the metalworking. "You don't make mistakes, you just learn how not to do something", mistakes are when the firemen have to show up!

Thanks James. You caught that part about making a mistake. As soon as I said that I realized that I had learned something that I could use later. Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. Jere
