I remember this story because we (in Trinidad and Tobago) were hoping against hope that they would all be retrieved. Unfortunately, incompetence and corporate greed made Paria refuse to send the help the men needed. The rescue divers that got to Christopher were ready and willing to go in and get the others, but were ORDERED by Paria not to go. The men were 1000ft in the pipe, and they KNEW that they could have gotten to the men, but Paria found it cheaper to pay out death compensation than to have to take care of the men for the rest of their lives. The Court battle was even worse. Despite testimony by Christopher and all others involved, and despite being found liable, Paria basically got away with this unscathed. This broke all our hearts in the country, to the point where even though ai am qualified and was offered a job by Paria, I refused it. Believe me, the entire country despises that One Company...

@@juliobrian4757 I agree with you, I too wouldn't want to work for a company that believed that giving out death compensations is cheaper then rescue one or more workers from death, If they where willing to take a hit in reputation for the sake of saving money from rescuing their own workers from death, then it's probably safe to say that they will do the same to any other future accidents where there is a chance for the workers to be alive and in possibility of rescue if one is quick enough to move.

Small detail that makes the last story even worse: the rescue divers team had already located the other 4 divers by knocking on the pipe, and listening for a response, which they eventually got. However, Paria never let this team take action because it would be 'too dangerous'. The other 4 employees were aware help was on its way and were left waiting, and waiting, and waiting.
@friedeggisepicАй бұрын
the last incident is horrible. just imagine thinking your friend will save you, only to find out he isn't coming back to save you. so you just wait and wait, hoping for a miracle, until you either drown, starve, or dehydrate to death. and even worse, imagine you're in fyzal's perspective. you gave up life saving equipment, just to find out your friend isn't coming back, and you die alone in a dark, filthy tunnel thousands of meters deep in sea. i just can't believe how they left them there to die and slowly rot away, all while they're counting on their friend, who can't do anything other than blaming himself.

I may lead a boring life where I don't challenge fate with skydiving and bungie jumping.. but at least I'm alive and haven't experienced any insane situations like these. As a kid I was also always careful. I wasn't the "Looks dangerous... let's try anyway!"-type. I was the rational "Looks dangerous... let's use our heads here and imagine the outcome"-type.
@Aye-McHuntАй бұрын
You're the opposite of me, then. I never said it looks dangerous. When my friends and I were contemplating something dangerous, I always said, looks like fun, let's do it. How I survived my childhood still amazes me today, especially as I'm now in my 60s.
@gurvmlkАй бұрын
I was kind of in the middle. I was sensible, but definitely had moments of underestimating how dangerous something actually was. I never went out of my way to do extremely dangerous things when those dangers were obvious. But if the dangers weren't so obvious, I would sometimes go into things just assuming that nothing could possibly go wrong. I remember one time when I was quite young, and I jumped down from a great height. Not fatally high, but still higher than I should've. Figuring that, "I'll be fine so long as I land on my feet." And I did land on my feet, and I was fine. But the pain that shot up my legs informed me that I was absolutely wrong about that assumption. Not that I didn't know that falls from certain heights weren't deadly. Rather, that I underestimated just how low a dangerous height could be.

The nail gun one was incredibly unlucky because, as a shop student, I can tell you that nail guns (at least modern ones) have a safety mechanism that makes it so that a nail can only be fired if the gun is pressed firmly up against a hard surface (like the wood); however, some earlier models do not have this safety mechanism, but in a shop that is up to the proper safety code, a gun like this should not be present. There is also the possibility that it did have a mechanism, but it broke. Either way, a nail gun without safety should not have been in the workers' tools; so I wouldn't blame the worker who fired the nail gun right away (that is if he wasn't the one in charge of the tools). Overall, this was an insanely unlucky accident that should never have happened.

if you make another part you could add this story i know of: Surviving one horrible ordeal is bad enough. But how about two? On May 27, 1943, a U.S. Army Air Corps B-24 on a rescue mission in the Pacific malfunctioned and crashed into the sea. Three members of the crew took refuge on a raft. Tail gunner Sgt. Francis McNamara died after 33 days, but the other two - 2nd Lt. Russell Phillips and Lt. Louis Zamperini, a distance runner who had competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, survived on fish and rainwater for 47 days. Then they were found by Japanese forces. That's when things got even worse, particularly for Zamperini. The Olympian endured savage torture at the hands of a sadistic camp sergeant named Mutsuhiro "The Bird" Watanabe. Among his many abuses, Watanabe ordered other prisoners to line up and take turns punching Zamperini in the face for two hours. Watanabe also once forced him to hold a heavy beam overhead for 37 minutes before knocking him to the ground. Nevertheless, Zamperini survived the war, and was liberated in 1945. In later years, he had a religious conversion and tried to meet with Watanabe in Japan to let him know he forgave him but "The Bird" refused to meet with him. Zamperini lived long enough to see his story become a bestselling book, Laura Hillenbrand's 2010 "Unbroken," which was also made into a Hollywood movie released just before his death in 2014. Phillips also survived, but revealed little about what he endured. He died in 1998

Hello Jay, I'm star. This is my second second story, I posted one about my dad's revenge in one of your videos. I have another story but I'm unsure if it's surviving the impossible or not but I still survived. A short while after my fourth birthday I was bored and I had a few rands in my pocket (yes rands I live in South Africa)so I decided to go to the shop to buy a lollipop. I came back to my house and stood by the laundry pole and enjoyed my sweet treat...... for all of 3 minutes at most. The circle candy thing popped off of the stick, it was still a circle. I kept putting it into my mouth and taking it out and doing it again. But as I was about to do it again I put it in and swallowed it, but it didn't go down no. It stayed in my throat. I stayed there for a few seconds trying to get it go down but I failed. I immediately started choking. I lowered my head relying on the ground below me to direct me inside. I somehow managed to make my way inside and I saw dad watching soccer. I rushed to him and barely uttered "dad help me" before vomiting the noodles I ate an hour prior on his shirt. Dad hit me in the back four times and the lollipop circle came out. I stood up, tears running down my face. Dad was a real hero that day. TLDR: I chocked on a lollipop and dad saved me.

Let's just say I gave him the typical SEAGULL squak of I'M FLYING HERE and a few choice SEAGULL profanities before he was able to get us both untangled! I of course was a decent enough flyer that I was able to do a mid-air maneuver so I could fly away and wait for him to land (I was debating whether or not to poop on his head when he landed, but decided that he had been given enough of a mid-air squaking too, so that would have been overkill)!" 16:55 - "This is why I refer to it as the SPORT OF FALLING WITH STYLE with the ROULETTE WHEEL that is THE HUMBLE PARACHUTE!" 17:47 - "Is this guy having a grand mal seizure? Or is this some variation on the fetal position that I wasn't aware of?!" 17:57 - "Well now that isn't the kind of suprise you want on your things that might happen while skydiving BINGO CARD! Seriously worst possible time to have a seizure! This is why people should never sky dive alone! As having a wingmate can save your life! This is why I have more respect for the tandem jump!" 18:07 - "A good teacher is always there to help a student when they are in danger... and that goes double for skydiving instructors as if their student is incapacitated their actions can be the difference between survival and becoming street pizza wearing a an undeployed parachute!" 18:14 - *SEAGULL applause* "Now that's a textbook skydive save right there! We SEAGULLs salute Sheldon for his quick thinking and sky diving skills!" 21:25 - "CRAP! THE STORE MANNEQUINs are trying to HITCHHIKE again (unfortunately they assumed it means you actually hitch yourself to the vehicle)!"
