On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

I sort of laughed when the screen said the bear was getting too close to the carrier. In 1980, when Iran had the American hostages, my Marine amphibious unit was on the USS New Orleans, a helicopter carrier, floating in the Persian Gulf. The Soviet Bear aircraft flew so close to the carrier that you could see facial details on the Soviet airmen. We would wave at those guys and they waved back. They would circle around the ship several times, disappear, and then return again and again. We were floating around out there for about 60 days.

When I was in 2/3 I got to do RIMPAC one year and was on the helicopter carrier HMAS Canberra. We got a couple flybys from Chinese aircraft close enough that we could see a pilot taking pictures of us, so a few of us decided to moon them on one of their passes. I hope my cheeks are still in a folder marked “INTELLIGENCE” somewhere in Beijing

Yes please. I might actually start doing that. I wish we had a way to know what the Iranians have done to upgrade their Tomcats. Jane's says that they have new avionics, which includes a new AESA radar package that is either of Russian or Chinese origin. They may also have new engines, almost certainly of Russian design, and may have true combat flaps. Other possible upgrades can only be speculated. I'm sure NATO and the Israeli military know, and probably the Saudis know, but I'm very interested to also know.

My first intimate experiences with the F-14 was on board the Lincoln. I always thought they looked too big to be a fighter, but when they were removed from service, I missed them. I had seen flight demos for them when I was younger and was always impressed by their maneuverability, but that really isn't saying much. I can remember being impressed by how maneuverable the B-25 was while doing a fly by during a warbirds airshow.

Would be cool to get a more in depth analysis of the content here over on mini-docs (for example elaborating on what the Iraq-Iran war was...Why Iran was sold F-14's at the time, clearly we are not so friendly now...etc). Sort of like using this as a trailer for mini-docs sometimes, while giving the BVR and dogfight crowd on this channel what they want at the end of the explanation...every now and then. Obviously they don't want to sit through that every time.

This video reminds me of the decades I spent living in Alaska where fighters scrambling from Elmendorf AFB to intercept incoming Bear bombers testing our response time is a regular occurrence. Instead of doing a doc on a particular aircraft, that ten hundred other guys have already done, how about doing some research and educating us on the history of Bear intercepts over the bearing sea? Is could easily be a series of episodes showcasing the various aircraft that have served in this capacity over the last 70ish years, F86, F4, F15, F22, maybe more. I appreciate your content, I'm sure I have learned more about aerial combat form your videos than any other source. Keep up the good work!

Great Video @GrowlingSidewinder! So this scenario exemplifies the purpose of the fleet interceptor and what the F14 Tomcat was built for, but it would be interesting to put one F18E/F in this same scenario to see if it can fill the shoes the Tomcat left behind. Moving the US and Russian (since the USSR has fallen) technological clock forward 10 to 20 years in technology just to be fair. Obviously carrier fleet defense is still a valid scenario, or has this threat diminished?

Love this format. See if you can upgrade the bomber to a Backfire next time. Possibly Flankers for escort.

That Bear looked like he was hauling ass. Even when the Foxhounds separated to engage you, it didn't look like there was a ton of separation. Might have been a trick of the optics, but, still. Nice intercept.

Finally, you got the Mig-31 without using the Raptor or riding the ground crashing into trees lol. Well done. I was hoping you would Merge with it and take it to school.

What's interesting is that the F-15's design team was at one point considering to mount the Phoenix missile. To oversimplify why it ultimately didn't go through the reasons were threefold; First, being a Navy project there were some concerns that the missile may not have been entirely compatible with the Air Force's hardware, notably given that it had been specifically designed to work with the AWG-9 radar and not the Eagle's APG-63. Second, the modifications to allow the Eagle to mount AIM-54's would've increased the empty weight by about 15% (and then you factor in that each Phoenix is almost twice the weight of a Sparrow). After the debacle with the Phantoms the Air Force was a little conscious about increasing the plane's weight too much. And finally, a difference in doctrine with how to conduct stand-off operations was the final nail in the coffin to Phoenix-carrying Eagles. While I understand the reasoning of the USAF, it's still interesting to imagine an alternate timeline where Eagles scored kills with Phoenix missiles.

it also may of interest to people to know that NASA did indeed strap an aim54 onto an F-15 and shoot it into space for research purposes.
