Ball bearing are made of tough steels. Why waste that? Even smaller balls can be forged in incredibly useful tools!
This one is the first that came me to mind.
Inspired by the work of Matthias Fenner Toolsworks:

If you don't have a metal lathe, copper pipe and tubing (and brass stuff too) make wonderful ferrules that are easily fashioned with simple hand tools.

that's pretty cool, i like it! bonus points for showing that an edge with steep geometry will still shave, if the honing is good. i have witnessed this irl, when my sister shaved off her eyebrow with a scissor blade i'd carefully polished (despite a large 60° edge angle).

That knife got style to it, very creative output Also, loved that demostration, other dudes be showcasting how well their knife cuts through paper but getting a shave with one fresh out of the polish is impresive!

Beautiful work. This type of wood marking knife is also very useful for refining free-hand engraving patterns and tight fitting joint cuts.

It's actually quite a common technique for woodturners who make pens. It's a pretty hardwearing finish, so it stands up to being handled very well.

Use the water-thin stuff; it soaks into the wood. This way, the finish is part of the wood--it's not just on the surface where it can be chipped off.

The trick with the welding magnet and the belt sander was brilliant. Made the sander into a surface grinder.
