I thought about commenting this when you talked about tips, but now having watched the video, one of the biggest things, as you may have realized, is always make sure to holster your weapon before talking to someone. You can miss small quests just by pointing your gun at a friendly npc. But don't worry, it's usually nothing big if you miss it, and we've all been there.

There's also a holster weapon button you can just click (it's one of the bumpers on a controller) so you don't need to go into your weapon wheel and manually select fists every time

John some hunting tips for you: 1- use binoculars to study animals fast and from a far which tells you which weapon is best to hunt them for quick kill. 2- in the bottom right corner under the animal name there are stars icons, ☆ poor, ☆☆ average ☆☆☆ perfect. 3- always go for the 3 stars but use the weapon designed to hunt them because if you use a bigger gun the 3 stars will turn to 1 star. 4- you can use weapon scope to study from a far as well but binoculars are better. 5- Hosea gave you a legendary map check it in your item satchel. If you hunt a legendary animal, if you can carry the animal body, then do it (large animal you can't), you can sell them as well not only the skin. And these are not spoilers in the hunting mission most of these were explained. Have a great gaming.

Is there a way to boost this comment cuz in my opinion, this is the tip that helped me the most but took me ages to figure out- scan your prey with binoculars to check star ranking, check which weapon is best to use on that animal and make sure to aim for a head or heart shot for a 3 star pelt!

I normally don’t comment because I know you’re a gamer like me who likes to do things their way and learn naturally, but I thought I’d share some tidbits. I’m going to try to give them without spoiling anything, John. I’m enjoying watching you learn and explore. 1. Your camp is everything. There’s a box you’ve walked by like 10 times that is on a table in camp and it is important. Check out that box! Also when you go into camp, there’s a message that keeps popping up that says “Supplies” and three boxes under it that are RED. Pay attention to that. Also I’d recommend checking in with everyone in the camp daily and checking their sleeping quarters out, too. You only have to nose around the sleeping quarters once, though. You never know what you might find hiding there.😉 Contributing to camp in numerous ways is very important to progress. This info was in some of the blips that have been popping up in the black boxes (which are important throughout the entire game and should be read thoroughly). 2. There’s a pot of stew in the camp that you can eat from. That’s a good way to keep Arthur fed and keep his weight up, and it can help with camp interaction too because you can sit and eat in different places in camp with different people. I’d suggest definitely grabbing a bowl at night before you sleep and sitting at the campfire. 😉 Yes, he can lose weight, and his hair and beard will grow, as the blips have stated, no spoilers. 3. Your horse is an extension of you and is just as important as your character. Take good care of it. I’d recommend only using one throughout the game, but play as you see fit. 4. Interaction is key in this game. You can just about interact with everything, from buildings to plants to animals to people …. PEOPLE. The reason the game had Arthur walk back in that one area you played is so that you WOULD run into different plants, animals, and PEOPLE. They’re important. You will come across many scenarios where you may have to walk or ride VERY long distances. 5. When hunting, if you use a pew pew, aim for the head, or use a bow when you can. This helps keep the pelts intact. The pew pew will typically destroy them. And yes, the trapper is the same wherever you go. 6. There are tons of collections in this game. Some of them require you, um, trying items that you loot or pick up. An example is the cigarettes. When you get a pack, just smoke one. You’ll see what I mean. 7. The tidbit box told you that bear was Legendary. That’s important info when it comes to hunting and crafting, if you choose to craft. That and Hosea’s map. There is no hunting mini game. That’s why he gave you that map on where to find animals. You just simply hunt because it’s beneficial, to you and your camp. See #1. 8. Play as you see fit. That’s the fun of this game. But I will say that randomly unaliving people because they’re rude to you, or randomly waiving the pew pew, even though hilarious, could have an effect on your story and your interactions. Though an accident in this video, you missed a good interaction with the builders. You will have plenty of chances to get crazy through interactions too, and those won’t count against you like randomly choosing to can. This is a Rockstar game. Randomly unaliving can have GTA-like consequences, lol. 9. It’s okay to randomly just ride the map. I’d suggest doing it at night. 😉

Tiny cowboy hat is everything!!! Love it. 🙌🏼 22:22 One time I shot a wolf in RDR2, and didn’t kill it. It ran away and fell down and began whimpering. It sounded so much like a dog in pain that I genuinely started crying. Even though I knew it wasn’t real, the sound got to me. 😭 Horse reviver is essential in this game, unless you’re heartless and don’t care about your horses. “I ain’t quarrelsome” right after you killed a guy in cold blood took me out. First person is what I use whenever I’m trying to loot a place because it helps me actually see the items better. That particular campfire in camp you can’t cook at. I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now considering I am way behind on videos, but you have to set up a campfire yourself. It’s on your second wheel. I refused to sell the black Shire horse. Easily the prettiest horse in the whole game in my opinion. I kept him the whole game as my main horse, named him Licorice. Had a second horse that I bonded with who was a white Shire horse I stole from a wagon. Named him Marshmallow and played the whole game with two big Shire horses. Licorice as my main and Marshmallow trailing behind. Fun little trick, if you bond with a random horse, you can get him to follow you while you still have your main horse saddled. Helps a LOT with carrying pelts and carcasses. Plus I love the shires because they spook far less easily, sure, they’re slower, but I love riding a huge horse. Sort of a power-move especially considering I played the game with two following me around. “Draft” means it’s a working horse. Basically the huge horses with hairy hoofs usually. 1:38:00 Dying laughing. I love how Arthur got mauled but it is absolutely fine and not bloody during the cut scene. He’s all good, no worries! 😂 1:43:07 Downing a can of baked beans after getting mauled is such a power move. Trappers are exactly like the RE boxes. All the same inventory. 👍🏼 1:59:07 Again, you’ve probably figured this out in one of the many videos I’ve yet to watch but you can actually tell what the quality of the pelt will be beforehand. Scan amongst the crowd to see which ones are three stars, and go for those. So long as you get a one-shot kill with the bow it should remain three stars. Like a Neopet, you can leave them there forever. Bond doesn’t go down. 2:12:01 Happens to all of us at some point. 😮‍💨 I had to get into the habit of putting away weapons after I was done fighting so I would never accidentally make people hostile. Still accidentally pull guns on people occasionally though. 2:12:51 LMAO, they’re running from you, because you started shooting. They are trying to avoid the chaos.

A draft horse is an umbrella term for big bulky work horses, like a Shire (breed). A Morgan (breed) is a small riding horse, and what I grew up learning to ride. It's really cool they're so in-depth with the horses and their info. I feel bad for the black Shire getting sold to a life of labor, that was pretty shitty back then.

Big Deadwood fan right here! I'm loving your Arthur voice, it's already very spot-on, great job 😊 Here's a few spoiler free tips on a few game mechanics (possibly already mentioned by other people idk): - White or grey clouds and dots on the radar are side missions or activities, grey is undiscovered ones specifically iirc. The greenish-yellow clouds and dots are story missions. - The cloud represents a search area, often to begin a mission. Once you are within range of a specific objective, the cloud will disappear and be replaced by a dot or character circle. - You can only access your stored weapons on your horse, until you get the weapon locker upgrade at your camp. - protip: whenever you go off on a wagon or coach, whistle for your horse and it will automatically follow the vehicle. That way it will be with you wherever you wind up instead of out of range. (Although story missions often automatically teleport your horse). - you'll probably figure this out as you go along, but a lot of camp mechanics are about contributing to the gang community. Chopping wood, donating supplies, etc. BRING animal carcasses back to camp to donate even after you skin them. - I think you're starting to get a hang of this already, but cores & bars: Bars, the circle around the core icon, is the equivalent of your standard HP and stamina bars. They get replenished with consumables like tobacco, tonics, or snake oil depending on the stat. Full items will be greenish-yellow, partial ones will be white. Your core affects the recharge rate of your bars, but also your ability to perform an action *at all*. These get replenished with either taking a rest, or eating food items. It's most important to monitor these during most of the game whereas the others are generally just relevant in combat. THERE is an equivalent system for your horse, with horse-specific tonics. - the first fighting mechanics are extremely awkward imo. I was never able to get a handle on the proper timing. - Visit the stables/livery in town often! Your horse is probably the most important thing in the game to maintain and pay attention to. - Feel free to ignore mission ratings. Those are basically just for achievement/trophy hunters. They don't give you anything in-game. Anyway, glad you're enjoying it. Kinda making me want to play again, I have hundreds of hours in RDO which uses the same map and mechanics more or less.

I remember how overwhelmed I felt with all the constant tips in the tutorial as well, but you'll get the hang of it! Eventually it'll come naturally to you to always check real quick what weapons you got equipped or want to take with you after dismounting your horse before venturing somewhere else. And definitely hang around in camp every now and then between missions, play some dominos, etc. You'll hear plenty of unique dialogues between the gang members that just add so much personality to them and the story as it progresses. answers for review! to answer your question, the trapper walks really fast 😂 he is every trapper in every location. the fast travel station/carriage icon "locks" fsr when you're on your horse but if you dismount it will unlock (unless there's excitement in the area) . also tapping the bottom dpad shows you your objective while you're in a mission, and holding changes the size of minimap. your herbs and ingredients can be used for "recipes" either on the food at the fire (and you can use the Scout fire at camp or arthurs fire and some random npc fires, but you need your horse to actually camp) or for other fun things. you can stow 4 medium animal pelts on your horse but only one large pelt or medium carcass (in addition to the med pelts), two small carcasses in addition to that can be attached to your saddle! all small pelts will automatically go into Arthur's satchel. oh also passenger npcs will kick animals off your saddle so beware of that 😂 pelts and meat that aren't in Arthur's refrigerated satchel will rot after a time (which the game will probably say eventually but i thought id mention). Also! Any horse is free horse except for gang horses. so any horse you see in the wild, any npc horses, are your horse if you can get it - but animals and loose horses LOVE to despawn so if you want a horse that's running dont look away from it or it'll disappear. you even sometimes run into stable horses out there so! you get a lot of chances to try every horse. and horses can be saddled forever but they like being hitched cuz it restores their cores. horses in the stables are living large so you don't lose any horse points for keeping them in there and they always stay fit. for your current horse, you can unsaddle them for RP 😂 but it's not recommended for horses you've never stabled or ones that are unhitched because if you die they might disappear also! the builder with the sons might scold you later but if you go back he should talk to you again. but yeah it's super easy to upset npcs and easier to brandish your gun on accident 😂😂 I'm stoked you're having fun tho lol 🎉❤ I'm here for the long haul fingers crossed for another 50 video playthrough!

So a few things I can help inform you on: 1. When you shoot things, an "X" appears over the reticle and when it's red that means whatever you were shooting is now dead 2. Cutting/changing your hairstyle won't affect anything, but as the prompt said you can gain and lose weight. Both of which will have a downside as well as an upside but it's generally best to stay neutral. The same goes for you horse as well! 3. The bigger the horse, the more things it can carry and if I'm remembering right, you can hold 5 pelts at once on a horse. 4. You can hold 2 smaller animals on the sides of your horse the same way you hold bigger animals on the back. Just be sure not to skin them first. 5. You can tell whether the kill was good or not if the star next to the animal's name becomes 1. Some animals you come across will inherently be a 1 star kill.

Here's my tip: pay attention to the mini map as it can tell you locations of bounties, random corpses (marked by an X) that have a lore of their own, and side quests (they're the white mission icons). Side quests will affect the main story as well, though you need not complete all of them.

One good tip that might help (if you plan on doing a lot of fishing): The default controls for reeling a fish are immersive, but it can hurt your hand after a while. You can change this setting so that you hold the X button to reel in a fish, rather than rotating one of the thumbsticks constantly. You won't get to fish for a little while longer, but at least the setting will be ready for you when you get there.

I honestly wouldn’t mind if you spent an entire video just hunting and looking around, lol. I don’t know why I love that aspect to the game as much as any quest. You can check for updates on your map for more legendary animals. Those photos you got about those gun slingers are in your inventory too. It’s hard to find everything but it may be helpful to just go through all of your stuff periodically and keep reading your journal and anything you get from side quests.

If you don't want to splurge on stable horses, you can always tame wild horses! It's really fun to search for your own horse, though you might have to travel a bit to find the best ones

If you want funny dialogues as Arthur, choose "Greet, Greet, Antagonize" for funny lines Arthur can say. And when you get close to the main missions (Yellow) they get smaller, not dissaper, because you're close.

Hold the pause button (main menu button) to get to the map faster Hold b to quickly exit the compendium instead of pressing it a couple of times Make sure to open your satchel and look at the photos of the gunslingers to find their locations Eating food replenishes cores but does not replenish health, so if your in a fight and quickly need health take a health cure same with stamina or dead eye I think you can double tap LB to holster your weapon

Commenting early so this may be figured out later in the video, but here's a tip for immersion: You can use the "greet" command on strangers multiple times to make smalltalk with them! After you say hi, further uses will chat. You can also mix it up with "antagonize" to rib them and apologize, set them up for riffing, and so on. Great for provoking or just roleplaying a bit.
