I don't leave comments often, but I really love this song, but it makes me sad. I'm a man, and when I first heard the bear or the man question I laughed and wondered why such an obvious question would even be asked. Then I heard so many women saying bear that it was baffling. It's frustrating to think that a woman would fear me more than a literal super predator that would only see an easy meal, but history shows the awful picture of my gender. In conclusion, I can understand why a guaranteed end by a beast is better than a slight chance of running into a monster. "There may not be many, but enough to doubt them all."

I think I speak for many women when I say that your willingness to understand our side rather than immediately pointing fingers and taking offense, means a lot. We all understand that there are good men out there. But what could happen to us if the man in front of us *isn't* good, is such a horrific possibility that we have to be cautious of every man because of the actions of the evil few.

It’s difference flavor of feminine (well feminine presenting) rage. This one is defensive, the building of a shield on personal level so we can fight to protect us all ^ this is is just my interpretation. Er how it makes me feel. Edit: and remember, not everyone with a uterus is a women and not all women have a uterus. ❤️

@@TinkHerBellI am so sorry if I came across as invalidating your experience. I was thinking of cases like myself (have a uterus but am not a woman) but you are absolutely correct. I was trying to find a gender neutral way to say “women targeted”. I guess “targeting of XX-phenotype presenting folks” is what I was looking for? For those who don’t know, phenotype refers to physical trait that is expressed (observed) like eye color, nose shape, ect. Genetics is COMPLICATED (I just have a base level understanding) so different genotypes (genetic code variant of a given gene) can produce the same phenotype. And just because you have a gene doesn’t necessarily mean it’s expressed physically. Environmental factors play a role. So the gender neutral way to say “feminine” is “XX-presenting” XX refers to the 23rd pair of chromosomes, and if you have XX you will be born with a uterus. (XY would mean born with a penis.) ALSO, there is intersex which mean you got some combination of XX and XY. So when I say “XX-presenting” I’m referring to body portions (waist narrower than hips and bust) boobs, higher pitched voice and NOT what’s in someone’s pants. . The external traits that are expressed in association with estrogen. Plus you can be genetically XX and identify as a women but lack a uterus because of a health reasons. Idk I guess “feminine presenting” is simpler

When I was a little girl, before I understood all the things women faced, I had always said to my friends and family that I belonged with nature. I have always said that I would rather be killed by animals than humans, because "the animal is just trying to survive". As I got older, I understood better. I told all my friends and family that I wanted to be buried with a tree or some seeds. These songs make me feel validated, this and Last Woman On Earth, because, even as a little girl, I chose the bears and wolves. And I still, to this day, choose the bears and wolves.

Lilith, you've done something powerful here. As a person (female) who lives around and sometimes in Wilderness, multiple kinds of bears and a few different kinds of wolves..you've beautifully put what I always struggled to say when people called me brave or crazy for hiking alone, cross country road trips alone, etc, etc. A charging bear is a little scare. Rush of life. Gratefulness for a peaceable encounter if only a charge occurs. Makes me feel alive and on top of the world. I am one, with all that is living, including the dance of predator territory and prey. Working with Wolf hybrids, has my entire arm in his jaws, and we're having a who's going to back down contest of wills - whew that was close. Might be a little shaky for a bit. Being followed and almost touched when I stood my ground to see if he was unaware or actually creeping; creeping (been a few years since I had some this bold in a simple bookstore) and I immediately wandered like a maze until he bugged off. Yes, I could have said something. But that would just add to my experience that was already harder to deal with than any of the bears or wolves, or moose or anything I'm a afraid that's after me. I'm a small, slight person. I DO pick the Wolves and Bears and will continue to do so over Men for predictable safety..everytime. Brilliant work and Art.

I have two comments: While it is true and important to recognize that women can be just as bad as men and that victims of all genders have troubles getting people to believe them, it is also important to recognize that the vast majority of assaults were done by men unto women, and that way too many times, these women are forced to take at least part of the blame when there is zero fault on their side. And secondly, nowhere near every bear would maul you. Most polar bears, some of other species and any bears with pups might do that, but otherwise they usually don’t see humans as prey and will leave them alone if the human does the same.

Oh honey. I understand. Its so hard to recover. I was six. He was my older sisters boyfriend, the son of my mom's best friend, and someone I saw as family. It was my birthday and we were having a party. I had gone to my room to put away presents and change out of my party clothes and into my bathing suit to go swimming. I didn't even manage to put my toys away. He did as he pleased and By the time I was able to get up to find my mother he was outside, acting normal with everyone else. My mother called me a liar when I told her what happened. I didn't even know the word rape then. My mother chose to believe a boy twice my age, who had scratches on his face and arms, rather than her six year old daughter who still had on torn clothes and blood on her legs. Weekends were hell for me after that. I never knew if he would come over, if he would manage to get me alone. In third grade I was accused of lying to my teacher when I explained a scene in a book I was reading that involved rape. She said I couldn't possibly understand. She had no idea I knew far more than she thought. It didn't end for good until I was twelve and his family moved to another state. I'm thirty now and still flinch when a man moves too fast or gets too close. It doesn't matter if it's my husband, my brother, or a friend, that instinctive fear is there. No one blames a person who was mauled by a dog as a child for being scared of dogs for the rest of their life, why do they have so much trouble understanding it in a different context?

I send my condolences and regards to those who have been mistreated, harmed, and used by the men who thinks it is appropriate to commit such devious crimes. Not all are the same, but there are enough of them to have everyone on guard. Hell is empty, and all the devils are here. May the deities be with you all, and I wish you all the best of luck. Stay frosty.

I found this song on a short and instantly listened, being a teen that can relate breaks my mental health but this song makes me feel like I'm not alone and that there are people out there that feel my pain. Sometimes I feel like I'm overreacting but I realize that I'm not. Thank you so much for this song ❤❤❤❤ one message. You. Are. Not. Alone. ❤️

As a guy in a 💯% in support of the cause. Always have been. But since the election I've become more passionate about women's rights. We must be ready to protect each other from those who follow the path of hate

I love how u change the way u sang thru out the song! To me, the more high pitched voice shows innocence and purity (before one was r@ped) and the deeper voice is after a traumatic experience!

C'mon that's not fair! I've just listened to the song and it's going straight to my On repeat playlist, where there are already plenty of other your songs 😄 I guess other singers won't have a chance. Btw, the song is amazing, can feel all the anger and power 👏

There's a line in one of my favorite movies, "The Company of Wolves"; "The Wolves in the forest are more decent." This song literally gives me reason to survive in a world that does not value women as people at all. It's not that we choose the bear. *_WE ARE THE BEAR._* We are Nature herself. *_AND SHE IS PISSED._* Incredible feminist song.

This is so powerful... And kinda terrifying? Like that part that says "And even when there ash they'll never let you go" Made me feel.... Well exactly how i feel when some guy complements me by saying something like "You've got a great figure... Child barring hips.." (Actually happened before)
