The carnivore-herbivore dynamic is how a lot of survivors of sexual assault feel navigating through life. After being assaulted by my best friend, someone I thought I was safe with because he vocalized that he understood I didn’t want that sort of relationship, he had a girlfriend of nearly 8 years and he was supposed to be my friend; after that ever single male I interact with is just a predator. It’s like they say in the comic, they were really together for the publicity of a carnivore dating an herbivore. This may be late, but I’d like to point out my perspective (which is very neutral) to Ako and Arido’s relationship. It ain’t perfect we get it, tossing the carnivorous instincts aside for a moment I have to admit their relationship wasn’t ideal even then. It’s also kind of toxic, especially with how Ako wants to appear as the trendy couple who broke society standards and she always ends up being the boss, and people likes pointing that out. But I’d like to add that she can change that aspect about her, and based on this video I actually thought she did. I also want to say that when someone ‘changes’ it’s not changing their personality as a whole, it’s more so changing their attitude with the people around them. Back then I don’t think she understood Arido’s internal conflict and emotions-the instinct he always has to hold inside, but now even if she still acts bratty I think I can see her trying to understand her surroundings better and not just *herself* . Like my friend said to me once, a bitch can still be a bitch, but they can be the good one who sticks around when everyone left.

Thank you for being so sensitive and comprehensive in your explanations. You always make me consider things I'd never consider on my own at first read. ...and for the record, I never felt like you were "victim blaming" Ako. I kind of got the feeling that Ako was figuratively "poking the bear". She was playing a role and kind of deluding _not just_ poor Airdo, but _herself_ as well. He even expressed worry and hesitation and was open about his fears but she didn't seem to want to face the reality of their situation and continued to insist. If anything, I kind of feel like she actually _downplayed_ his concerns and feelings. I'm NOT saying she "deserved" to be mauled and attacked, because I don't believe that at ALL. But expressing concern for Airdo doesn't automatically mean Ako is being "blamed"...which is kind of the feeling I got from some people.

I would argue that you didn’t victim blame. I walked away with the understanding that she emotionally abused Erdo FIRST, and his carnivore instincts caused him to respond with physical abuse. She admitted to just using him for the sake of image when she meant way more to him.. that’s not victim blaming, that’s suffering the consequences of her own actions. “Don’t abuse your SO - Ever. It’s better to walk away” was the message I took from that story.
@suitdoggy47073 жыл бұрын
Tbh I think of the carnivores in Beast stars behavior as a mental disorder because its separate a part of their coding that they tend to have no real control over.. Ako ignorantly provoke Erdo’s trigger causing his behavior. Honestly I find it no one’s fault but pure stupidity. But I feel that Ako was more in control of the situation rather than Erdo.
@PichuElric3 жыл бұрын
You're letting your personal prejudices against the r"elationship for show" thing come in the middle of viewing this objectively, and ultimately victim blamed her anyway. The problem is the thought process of "She used Erdo to look cool and morden so she deserves this/ of course she'll face consequences". Objectively the issue in their society is how they can't even do normal teenager things like using each other or casually dating without it turning into a tragedy of epic proportions.
@MooncrafterUTAU3 жыл бұрын
@@PichuElric Erdo asked how she felt, she admitted that she didn’t feel anything for him. This caused him hurt, and Ako was still demanding things be done her way - that’s a pattern of manipulation and abuse. Even her “cute” demands on exactly how he lives his life before she gives him another chance is more patterns of manipulation and abuse (bonus! She said it with a smile so hey, it doesn’t count as mean if she was just joking right? That’s how gaslighting works). She’s struck first - she’s not innocent in the slightest and at the very least seemed to have some recognition for what she did wrong to not hold a grudge. At some point, you have to accept responsibility for your actions and their consequences. Telling a guy “no” when he asks you out isn’t abuse. Agreeing to date him, giving him false hope and then bragging about it to his face is not “normal teenage stuff”. Abuse is not normal. Period.

I may not have read the manga (both beastars and beastars complex), but I love how you explained this chapter and its message. And this may sound weird, but this video actually helped me with some stuff I'm dealing with right now. I went through a sort of rough breakup at the beginning of my summer break. A lot of negative stuff was exchanged, I tried to fix things but it was too soon to fix. I wanted to talk to my partner about stuff to try and fix things but I'm not that good at explaining things and it would only end in us arguing and going back and forth. Right now, he's not answering because his wifi is out (though it's not usually out for 5 days) but I knew I needed a break from all the arguing and him. He said mean things that stuck with me so I needed time to process that and I now realize that I don't need him to feel better because of the things he said. I thought that things will never work out, even in the future as I hoped, he thought otherwise if I didn't go with his plan on staying together. These characters had a year to recover and process what happened to both of them. One moved on and accepted her scars and acknowledged the past but is willing to move forward. While the other was still hung up from the past. Ako had time to heal and is willing to forgive him and move forward despite what happened between them. He is also willing to make an effort, like you said, actions speak louder than words. That's what my partner said as well. I'm not saying that both my partner and I should change now and start over because we had almost a week to reflect. That's not enough time to heal and fix yourself. Ako and Airdo had a year to both heal, mentally and physically, and they did that individually. I realized from this video that I can't change with him in the picture, or heal. It hurts but this video motivated me. To not get too hung up from the past or else you're not going to change. You're going to continue moping. Life is too short for that and you'll be wasting your life away if you keep on doing so. So keep moving forward and help yourself up. Don't crawl back, focus on yourself first, and then maybe see if you two can work things out once you've figured yourselves out and are both emotionally mature to start over. Sorry this is really long heh. But thank you for making this video, it really helped me a lot. I'm still working on myself, it still hurts, but I'm learning how to help myself. Sorry again, this is really unrelated to the video and sort of strayed away from that (and sorry about most of the stuff not making sense, it might be a bit everywhere. Like I said before I'm not good at explaining but I hope you get my point.). Thank you again for making this video. I really enjoy watching your content!

I feel like your perspective initially sympathizing with carnivores was very male-based. Not to enforce any gender roles or a strict binary, but when you described how herbivores live in constant fear of being attacked, even in relationships, it immediately resonated with me as a woman. It felt like how it is to exist as a woman in society. Of course, beastars has several parallels to our world and not all of them match up perfectly, but to me, this one seems super clear. Being a woman comes with a near consistent fear of assault from men, and I think it's interesting how our experiences in life due to gender play into our interpretation of media such as Beastars. Its super cool how you recognized your perspective on this relationship and used empathy to see it from the other perspective!

Would like to point out that it's not just herbivores that can have that fear problem. One could argue that this duality/duplicity would mean that the carnivores have it harder than the herbivores.

Ill be honest Im glad Ako didnt die. I hated her for being a stuck up snob and bullying Haru, but now that we've seen the outcome of the kiss incident Im glad to see that she somehow utilized her pain and her scars to becoming stronger and living her life to the fullest. I also like how she ends up becoming a better person who doesnt blame Airdo for what happened , but instead helps to teach him how to move on from the past and reach for the future. I have a lot of respect for the person she is now

It's interesting it shows even tho the story is short It comes with a lot to think about. They're relationship could become a very healthy one, she forgave him from what was clearly an accident it was not malicious or evil in anyway it was just a fault of his instincts. She never blamed him once! He should totally stick with her I understand how guilty he must have felt and the trauma of seeing her after he hurt her, but as the video pointed out perfectly you need to let go of past mistakes especially in a relationship. You where sorry, you have been forgiven so smile and forgot.

I know im in the minority but I just couldnt gel with a silent voice. I was bullied and because of that I dont have much love for "lets feel bad for the bully because he got bullied too" type stuff. there were a couple of moments where it almost lost me when the main character kind of regressed to being shitty around the middle to add extra tension, but then the ending with the girl bully just really soured it for me.

Sorry, but I still feel that Ako had it easy in this whole thing. Unlike airdo, its easier for her to use her tragedy as a good thing because she is an herbivore. She is the bunny who moved foward after the attack of a carnivore, a lion, of all creatures, so of course people is going to see her as brave and valuable. Meanwhile, not matter how optimistic Airdo become, he is always gonna be seen as the animal who attacked an herbívore. So he cant like, appear in magazines or being all bubbly about it.

I find the herbivore being victims thing kinda hard to believe if you look at the ways animals behave in real life, both herbivores and carnivores are dangerous and while in the anime and manga its portrayed as one sided in reality its more balanced
@herpderp39162 жыл бұрын
@@raptormage2209 To me, it feels like the writer is cherry-picking elements of nature and it makes their metaphors fall apart. Sure, herbivores are usually prey animals, but they fight back plenty of times. They're not just delicate little walking lunchboxes.

I love this series, it has its flaws but its still really good, I just love stories that have side characters that you can also get invested in. Also Paru has a series called bota bota, which surprisingly enough has human characters, the main theme in it is love and intimacy so there is nudity in it (in case no one likes that to much). Anyway the main character is a clean freak to the point they get nosebleeds when they touch something dirty, which makes having a relationship kind of difficult, its pretty good and kind funny XD I highly recommend it.

This will sound strange, but being the "victim" is way easier than being the one that harms. The carnivore is seen as a monster while the victim always gets help, or at least most do. I'm a victim of sexual abuse, but I also ended up abusing my partner. Both are victims. In society women are scared because they feel like victims, and actually...we all are. In the past video I commented I have a personality disorder, so I'm terrified of my demons too. I was abused, but I abused. I was both victim, and the victimizer (that's the word, right?) The bottom line is...be kind. Especially to yourself.

I've always wondered though. If there was a predator that was with a prey animal but that prey animal wasn't their primary source of food, like not what the predator in the wild would typically eat- is there still as much tension in the predator. If that makes sense?
@jodeemorgan25723 жыл бұрын
I just wanted to talk about when you addressed yourself re-approaching the previous chapter (SORRY IT'S LONG )- I don't think you were too hard on her or was victim-blaming. In these types of situations you have to take in the real world (were they minor, under substance/intoxicated, and were they forced into that situation ) which would usually indicate a victim, as well as Beastars world. ( animal instincts and etc). While yes she was a victim after trying to back out at the last second as well as a victim to her society, Ako compared to Arido being a victim is far different. Both of them were minor in this situation which didn't really give one of them complete power over the other in the situation ( usually minors who are victims to adults don't have power in those situations because they are at different points in their lives mentally and financially), but Ako did have some power she knew that he like her sincerely and used that against him, also Airdo was forced into the situation by Ako. I just see it as she manipulated him and the result of that was his instincts took over hurting the both of them. Side Note I guess in victim situations like this you also have to think about the end result. Yes, Ako could have had horrible stuff ( like trauma ) happen to her ( not trying to downplay trauma). But in this situation, Airdo's life could have been completely ruined. Losing out on scholarships, having to move to a worse school, and even having this on his record( which would be a big deal in Beastar world ), as well as possible trauma. Both of them are victims, but I guess you have to realize Ako not only hurt herself in this situation but also Airdo.
