Beating Bonetail Before Hooktail in Thousand Year Door

Around 8 years ago (well before this channel), I did my first challenge run of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door- the Pre Hooktail Pit of 100 Trials run! The goal is exactly what it sounds like; you have to beat the entire Pit of 100 Trials including Bonetail before ever fighting Hooktail. Since I've done way harder challenges before, I also decided to make this a bit of a tutorial for challenge running the game!

Well first of all hero mode isn't getting any more major demos the only ones will be bug fixes and I'm pretty sure reed said in another comment that he does want to add a bringle skin although I don't know if he was joking or not but yeah I agree it should be in hero mode

Also. If you start the contact quest early, go into the pipe that starts chapter one, then go back. The contact will be there allowing you to get to West Rogueport early!

Just a slight correction at 9:15 that glitch where Mario respawns on the top of the blocks is called Hazard Respawn Glitch not Fish Glitch. Fish Glitch is actually a different glitch entirely that’s specific for Ms. Mowz which you actually showed off in the footage for that section, just wanted to point it out as it can definitely be a bit confusing, rest of the video is solid! 👍

Thanks for the video/ tutorial! I didn't end up doing a pre-hooktail pit, but I did just beat Bonetail for the first time ever today thanks to some of your strats! And while it's certainly not as impressive as pre-hooktail, I did manage to do it before acquiring Vivian in chapter 4, which makes me very happy I tried it!

There is a glitch called Yoshi Skip. It allows you to get a another shine sprite watch son of a glitch thousand year door and he will tell you how to perform and how it is used in speed run

In terms of moneyfarming, it is possible to store items at one item store and withdraw them elsewhere, so you can buy/sell 40+ sleepy sheep if you really want to. The coin profit is still pretty small, but you can get the item purchase rewards much more reasonably.

Finally someone else mentioned this. 42 slots is greater than 10. That's 84 coins per trip and Petal Meadows is so easy it's only a minor time annoyance.

Yeah upgrading goombella is meta post chapter 1. Chapter 2 is where Mario is supposed to unlock the super boots doubling his own attack power by upgrading goombella at this stage you basically get the super boots a little earlier then later on double the benefit of having super boots.

I did this challenge like two weeks ago. I last played the game like 5 years ago and then I got recommended your videos. so I got motivated to do a challenge myself and I beat it in seven tries even though I only played the game casually before (never went for the super guard). And right now I challenge the lv 0 challenge (Level Zero Scavenge to be exact). Right now I die over and over again to Magnus von Grapple 2.0. I got the superguard timing for the pit enemies down. but for the rest I am a noob right now. You motivated me to challenge myself with this hell so I hope you keep up the good work.

wont do anything. You have to be 2 levels above or something like that otherwise you have to fight. If fighting the enemy only yields 1 star point then bump attack will work. And Bump attack doesnt work in the pit even if u are max level

Gosh, pre-Hooktail pit is so fun. I love the fact that both Goombella and Koops are so useful, I love the dynamic that peril adds in carefully managing healing and damage, and I love that it's challenging enough without being heavily dependent on superguarding ability. You could actually rank up koops if you jump on the lock on the far east side of rogueport, and get on top of the building where you can use paper mode to get the shine sprite behind the house (jumping in the water respawns you in front of the trouble center)

Trying this on the remake, Dry Shrooms are now useless in this challenge (Unless that 1HP is needed) because Partners now revive with 1HP after battle, making this challenge much easier.

I would love to see a series of challenges without super guarding. Since we all know now that basically anything is possible with it now it would be cool to see pure strategy over skill challenges. Think Jrose11's regular challenges (no items in battle) compared to his rare impossible challenges, that do allow items. Bringle's "impossible challenges" can allow super guarding.

The only time I've ever beaten ttyd was doing pit of 100 trials right after doing glitz pit You end up so overleveled that using bump you don't actually have to fight anything for the rest of the game till you get to like, the shadow palace

That was crazy and impressive. With all the goodies you get in the Pit (along with the level ups for Mario), and a bit of luck, this could make the rest of the game a breeze. I'm sure Madame Flurrie will be much more enamored with Mario by the time they first meet...pucker up! I am curious if Goombella has any special comentary since this would be before any of the other dragons and the final boss, considering this is supposed to be post-game content lol Then again, I am one to reach floor 50 and then leave as soon as I am able before leaving the latter 50 until after the main story is concluded.

20:30 Actually not only can you jump but if you have ground pound you can just ground pound in place where the piders drop and it'll be a first strike with the ground pound. Doesn't matter for any pre hooktail pit or prologue pit but it's interesting
