I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my father a while back so I know your pain 💔. Like your Dad my Dad loved wooden boats too and in the last 15 years he started building cedar strip canoes and I have great memories and I have a great love for wooden boats because of my father and you sharing your father's love with makes me proud to watch your posts. Thanks again and God bless you Charlie from Casper Wyoming.

I'm a year late, but my condolences on the passing of your father. My father was born in 1916, and his love of boats began with Chris Craft and remained the same. My dad was one of those people who could do anything. He'd go to the coast after a hurricane and buy salvaged boats to rebuild. I've done my share of scraping barnacles and washing down boats as well. God bless the person who invented power washers. My dad and I were the sailors in the family. Mother never wanted to be in, or on the water; my older brother and younger brothers loved cars. Dad was born in Baltimore, MD and his family moved to Miami, FL where he was on the water as much as possible. His best friend was the son of a famous gangster and dad said transportation to and from the island compound was done on a Chris Craft, with the guards having machine guns. Dad died in 1990, and I wish I had paid more attention to what he was doing and how. I love sailing but, due to back problems, had to give that up a couple of years ago. I am preparing to retire. I live in the Dallas-Ft Worth area and my daughter lives in Houston. Instead of buying a house in Houston, I'm going to buy a boat to live aboard. If she decides to move out of Houston, I only have to move the boat to a lake close to her. She's not too happy about her mom living on a boat, but she'll get used to it...or not. I've begun the search and am pretty annoyed at the condition of some of the boats. Golly. Take care of yourself and boat on. Beverly

I grew up around lakes and did a lot a skiing. A friend's father and his neighbor had Cris Craft boats. Those things were great to ski behind. Easily pull 4 of us up out of the water. I remember watching some Cypress Garden water shows on TV and they were using Cris Craft and had at least 8 young ladies behind the boat making towers. Great boats, minimal wake and plenty of power.

The Chris Craft's are amazing, but the Riva's are next level. I just saw one from the 60's on Lake Tahoe this past Tuesday. Among all the Cobalt's and Formula's it was the one everybody noticed. They can sell for $500,000 to $700,000 these days. You were right on about the trim tabs.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad and I’m sure he’ll be missed, a lot. Just wanted you to know that I just happened upon your channel, well maybe a month ago or so and I saved it in my library to watch it later. OMG I am truly impressed and you brought back a ton of memories for me and I thank you for this or should I say these? I just finished your other video from the antique wooden boats in MI, it was great!!! BTW, you now have a new subscriber with 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 up. I’m now 72 and my dad had a couple of classics that could’ve been in those shows too. His first one was a Yellow Jacket with a 35 Johnson on it, pull start 😂 then he upgraded to a 30’ Owens cruiser, think I was around 6 when he got the Yellow Jacket and 10 when he got the 57 Owens, both were great and I was wondering if you’ve ever come across either of these in your travels??? Thanks again for the great content, keep them coming, please. Ron

Condolences to your family, mate. Greetings from Australia. Those white lines on the boat are not usually painted (on original craft). They are actually wood inlays between the planks. Great video and commentary.
@jimbarber96382 жыл бұрын
These all-wood pleasure craft were built from the 1920s until about the mid 1950s. At that time fiberglass boats began making their debut that customers liked because they required much less maintenance. The three main manufacturers of these beautiful treasures were Chris Craft, Hacker-Craft and Garwood Boats and all had their facilities in the Detroit area. The boats were tested in the Detroit River that has been famous for unlimited class racing for over 100 years. All three companies designed their boats with a similar look, and all were of the highest quality. Up until about the 1990s you could find these boats in various degrees of disrepair in storage sheds and barns throughout the Great Lakes Region and elsewhere. Today, some companies have produced replications of these all-wood boats, but none that compare to the originals. Note: you made a comment about how the steering wheels of the boats looked so much like automobile steering wheels. Well, that's because they were. After all, the boats were crafted in Detroit and just about every automobile in the day was manufactured there as well.
