My favourite moment of Harry's was the episode of Steptoe and Son when he pulled a brilliant con on his father whereby they ended up having separate holidays. But my favourite episode was Divided We Stand where they divided the house into 2 parts.

That was a top episode!!! Their chemistry together on set was just perfect - if I remember rightly the place caught on fire? Lol the Holliday too - Albert wanted to go to Bognor? 🤣 and of course he got his his way - the crafty old man 🤣🤣🤣 these are truly classics!!! Thank you for the memories! Takes me back lol
@2011littlejohn12 жыл бұрын
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre No - Harold pretended not to want to go to Bognor but some fancy European resort. He persuaded the old man to go but at passport control Harold's passport was out of date and he couldn't go so the old man cheerfully left the supposedly crestfallen Harold and went without him. Harold then gleefully got in a car with a woman to have fun in Bognor. Though if memory serves me right it was South End not Bognor. Albert's remark whilst in hospital recovering from smoke inhalation , ''Even the firemen had to put a penny in the turnstile.'' I also feel that the writing of this series was superb.
@BeautifulBadandBizarre2 жыл бұрын
@@2011littlejohn1 ohhhh! Haha Bognor sticks in my mind because I know it well! Now you’ve made me want to watch that episode again! The writing was beyond superb! When Galton and Simpson wrote the pilot episode I think they had Harry in mind right from the start! I also really loved him in Rattle of a Simple Man with Diane Cilento - I think she was married to Sean Connery for a short while - but I don’t think it was a happy situation - which leads me back to Diana Dors who was great friends with Connery… all roads lead back to Dors for me! 🤣

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre I always felt that Diana Dors was not a counterpart to Marilyn Monroe or Jane Mansfield as she was more dangerous than either of them - more like (but not a clone of) the US actor Gloria Graham.

Oh yes!!!! GG - marvellous! Dors was about as far removed from Jayne and Marilyn as you can get but people will often try and roll them into one! Which frustrates me sometimes - they had many similar experiences but they all handled them very differently with different outcomes - I find it all so fascinating!

Obviously famous for his brilliant comedic acting as the long suffering Harold in the timeless classic Steptoe & Son, however he was also an equally talented serious actor. The film Cover Girl Killer, although regarded as no more than a B movie, is in fact an absolute classic of its time. Made in 1959 it captures the final throws of a 1950s austerity Britain on the verge of a 1960s technicolour explosion. Some great atmospheric shots of Soho with Harry in brilliant form as a rather sleazy and particularly sinister serial killer. He died far too soon and it’s such a shame we never got to see more of his amazing talent - RIP Harry.

As a child in the 1960's I was taken on a coach trip to see a pantomime in the West End in which Harry starred. The weather was awful with a lot of snow falling and we arrived at the theatre late. We walked in to take our seats half an hour after the show had started and with the auditorium still half empty. One of our family friends and neighbours shouted out can you start again at which point Harry volunteered to run through the scenes we had missed so far. It was the funniest thing and confirmed me a Harry H Corbett fan for life. RIP Harry.

I love Steptoe And Son. Alongside Porridge, probably the best written and performed comedies ever on British television. the connection? both featured characters stuck in a claustrophobic world. One couldn't escape the confines of a prison and the other couldn't escape his manipulative father. I made a journey to pay my respects to Harry around four years ago. Buried not a million miles away in Winchelsea is my ultimate comedy hero who I did get to meet back in 1990 Spike Milligan and with my baby son in tow we laid flowers on his grave. The real shame is that apart from Spike, Harry H and the rest died relatively young. Steptoe & Son’s success was really bittersweet. It was hilarious and a great show, but it also robbed the UK of what could have been a great serious film actor. Harry has said that he loved playing the part of Harold, but it resulted in heavy typecasting of the roles he was subsequently offered and you really have to wonder how his acting career could have taken off had he only taken on the role for the pilot episode or a single series, judging by his previous TV & film performances.

I’m sure Harry could have done any acting role he wanted, so a shame in many ways that he was typecast in Steptoe. He was really talented and came across as a v sincere and genuine man too. Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Happy childhood memories for me too - fish and chips at my grandparents house, a bottle of pop and an episode of Steptoe & Son! According to Harry’s daughter the media blew their issues out of proportion - I think Wilfred’s drinking was a bone of contention when they were touring Australia but my goodness the were such professional in the final cut and their onstage screen chemistry was perfection! I agree also that Harry got typecast but that he could have definitely played a variety of roles given the opportunity! I’m thrilled you met Diana Dors and would love to hear more about that! Another blinding video, his movie career was amazing playing a serial killer, policeman and of course a rag ahd bone man.Quite a mixed CV.The on screen chemistry with Wilfred Bramble was a match made in heaven. And the scripts by Galton&Simpson were superb. But as said he was a shy man,with some self doubt,At the start of Steptoe & Son after the read through and rehearsals, in an old hall They came to the studios to see the sets for the first time. Harry noticed the seating and asked why they had them When told they were to film infront of a live audience, he rushed back to his dressing room saying he had to re-think how to play the part.Safe to say he found the key,leaving us with a treasure chest of fine work.And sadness at a life cut short

One of my favourite moments is from one of the S&S films, when Harold comes back home hungry, after being trapped in a furniture removal van, and Albert has ate the whole roast chicken! Hi Shar. Another lovely video. A bit late on this one. It's only took me two years ! Anyway, as a BIG "Steptoe" fan, I can tell you that you forgot to mention the radio series from the 1960's. These took place between the end of the original 60's run, and the start of the colour series in 1970. I think the radio series was first aired in 1966. What the radio series were, were radio adaptations of television episodes.
@BeautifulBadandBizarre3 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind words about the video!!! I’m glad you enjoyed it! You’re absolutely right about the radio series-thanks for pointing that out. The radio adaptations of Steptoe and Son definitely deserve a mention, and I appreciate you bringing it up. They were a fascinating extension of the show, bridging the gap between the original TV episodes and the color series. I’ll make sure to include that in any future updates, I do intend to do a longer video about Harry ♥. Thanks again for the great insight and I always appreciate your comments! xxxx

I always thought there was something a bit sad about “Steptoe and Son.” My Sister and I went to see the film 🎥 “Steptoe and Son: Ride Again” at the Cinema.🍿 My favourite part of the film, although it is not in very good taste(!!) was when Steptoe senior falls asleep 💤 in a coffin, and the son tries to wake him!! If my memory serves me correctly the son is running through the churchyard wearing a white hospital gown!! As I said, not in the best of taste, but for a six(?!) year old it was hilarious 😂 My Mother would not have been impressed!! Well I hope I have the right film!! I don’t think the “H” meant anything. I think it was to differentiate himself from Harry Corbett of Sooty and Sweep fame. Thanks for another interesting video 📹 It will be interesting to see what the Church looks like after restoration.
@BeautifulBadandBizarre2 жыл бұрын
Definitely - there was a real pathos in the writing - which I think really made it so relatable x That’s my favourite Steptoe & Son film! For me there are so many favourite bits - but ultimately it’s when Harold makes his escape after pulling the sheet off of the deceased husband - and completely cheesed off Diana Dors lights a cigarette and says ‘What are you looking at’ I just love it! 🤭you have the right film 🤣 and yes you’re totally correct! The H was to differentiate himself from the legend that was Harry Corbett the Sooty Sweep and Sue guy lol I was in love with Sweep - I thought he was adorable! I’m really looking forward to going back to the church! It’s very simple inside but such a lovely atmosphere - I’m glad they have been renovating it xx

Was just watching THE PARTY episode and came here. Surprised that the headstone looks so old - but it is in keeping with the old headstones around so I am sure it is new but made to look that way. It is however pretty hard to read the writing on that speckled background. It will fade even more with time so I hope his son and daughter keep an eye on it. It may need to be re-etched.

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Yes both parent died young. I was surprised the mother died at 54 but cancer gets people at all ages, doesn't it. As for my belief since becoming redpilled, I know we don't 'die', just the avatar we used in this lifetime. NDErs say we are more alive on the other side of the veil than we are here, and I believe it. We are definitely more powerful as we get all our 'junk' DNA back. We really are eternal quantum light and energy beings and fractals of God. We have the God source gene in us and that is why the aliens keep kidnapping humans to try and extract it because they don't live eternally like us. Earth is a simulation, a matrix, a school and it is all about expanding our soul's learning. We go back to our real homes and our soul family when we leave here. Everything is about to change anyway. When the solar flash happens, probably early next year, the good people on earth get the chance to ascend and we leave these carbon based meat suits behind and become crystalline light bodies with what we would consider magical powers- we are heading into the golden age, and their kids will be able to see them again in the 5th dimension as they are waiting for them. I can't wait to see my passed on relatives and pets. The coming solar eclipse in the northern hemisphere on 8th April is the bifurcation of the timelines when people who are meant to ascend will be on the good timeline with Trump returning and those that won't ascend staying in the other timeline and becoming one with the borg where the WEF determines their future. Those people will be the ones who took the mark of the beast several times (covid jabs) and just can't wake up to what is really going on in this biblical and galactic war with the cabal that has been going on for eons.

In the late 1970's my best friend at that time and I, crept into our local 'Bio-Cafe' cinema, in Jo'burg. I think it was called the 'Good Hope' The movies shown were always a double bill of 'B' movies: Tales from the Crypt and a 'Steptoe & Son' We crept in as there was an age restriction of no persons under 16 and we were just 14. Probably tall for our ages, but the door man glared at us, as he checked our tickets. Bio-Cafes were run down dives, which showed double bills on a loop 24 hours a day for around £1 a ticket. They sold burgers & hotdogs and most people there seemed more interested in making out or smoking cannabis (dagga) rather than looking at the screen, through a haze of smoke. For a couple of naive white boys from the suburbs it was an eye-opener 😮👍 The Steptoe movie had a scene, in which Steptoe senior was being driving at high-speed, lying in a coffin, in hearse, pursued by Brit Cops in a Rover V8. Steptoe junior seemed to refer to his dad as a "Dirty ole Man! You dirty ole Man!" This phrase we worked into our own conversations and used it on each other, from time to time, as young boys do.
