How nice! I've been feeding a bunch of stone martens for the past 3 years, as soon as it's dusk they run like crazy cross the field and come to have diner in my garden, but I've not tried to "tame" them.

I am viewing as many videos of pine martens as I can find, to get some idea of who they are. The reason? I started writing my first mystery, starring Ms. Whiskers, a pine marten.

@@TheAlphaWolf77 I'm cleaning up after some beta readers flagged problems, and starting a 9th edit. I hope to hire an editor in the new year to make it presentable. Then what route to go? Will a publisher take it, or do I self publish in e-book format? Still, the point i that there are few books with pine martens as characters, never mind being the protagonist.

Some predators you can't help but adore, like these ruthless extremely rapidly & manoeuvrable little thing, but if this was our size, I think we would have driven it to extinction because in the wild without us having the knowledge of picking up a weapon, we would have probably been hunted to extinction ourselves, once one of this is on your case, you are in deep turd, it climbs like a squirrel, only faster, runs faster than a rabbit, & swims & stays submerged like an alligator. This animal is one tough cookie, oh it aint frightened either, it's like a Brit after 10 pints of lager, nuts & game for the row.

Lovely to watch. You said in the 2019 video that she has been visiting for 7 years, so she must be 8-9 years now? That's amazing. 'They' say they don't live all that long, but then, I have found over the past years, that 'they' say a lot of things about martens that just isn't so. Happy to see this 😊

Hello Jytte - Indeed in 2019 she had been visting me for 7 years. At that time she was fully-grown and almost always accompanied by a young-looking marten that she got on so well with, that I assume he was her son. In the Highlands of Scotland females don't start to breed until they are three years old, so assuming the familial relationship is correct, this would make her at least 11 years old today. She is still extremely sprightly but stopped producing kits after 2018. A study of Irish marten road casualties indicated that 11 was the maximum age, but in captivity they can live to at least 20. Excessive tooth wear leading to starvation has been implicated as a major cause of death in older martens and so it is possible that supplemental feeding may perhaps extend their life.

It's a weasel not a marten. Martens have yellow bavette not white as in this case

Hello Julien. Don't be fooled by the colour temperature of the artificial lighting. The bib is actually creamy yellow - see other marten videos on this channel. A weasel is much smaller and a very different shape.
