“I want to look like myself.” It has taken me 40 years to reach this same conclusion. It breaks my heart to think that younger generations will never reach that level of acceptance because refusing their own faces is all they’ve ever been taught. Social media is so dangerous to everyone’s self esteem. It was bad enough before the internet.
@sluttymctits449611 ай бұрын
You know what they say: "With age comes wisdom." I'm closing in on 40, and it took me 33 years to accept how I look and who I am. It wasn't until 35-36 that I finally embraced my natural appearance and felt comfortable going out in public without a single drop of makeup on. I feel some regret that it took me so long to accept myself, but I feel so much worse for young people who have grown up in the age of filters. They never have a chance to be natural or to enjoy their uniqueness. I hope young people will do what we have done -- grow to love ourselves as we age -- but it's so damn difficult nowadays.

this is such a sweet comment, i totally agree :) from a teenage girl’s perspective, i just mean to reassure you that most of us are doing good, and have either healthy or healing relationships with our own faces. i really appreciate that nowadays, i can just glance at myself in the mirror before i leave in the mornings, see my big nose and my big (definitely very messy) hair, and just nod and say "yeah, i look like myself," with familiarity. but it’s definitely hard, especially when teenagers who can already be so mean now have super inflated ideas of beauty, and will judge based on those standards.

spot on commentary! as an asian american I would also really appreciate it if these "viral trends" such as the clean girl look, dewy skincare, etc. would at least give enough credit where credit is due and recognize that these are nothing revolutionary -- a lot of this stuff was pioneered and prevalent in east asian beauty for well over a decade. fashion trends too -- when I walk into a fast fashion store now, teens are wearing fits that look just like something I would have seen on yesstyle in 2012, and their makeup styles are giving "let me copy your homework I promise won't make it too obvious." the best part is I grew up wearing asian beauty but was always seen as weird for doing so. now gen z really thinks they did something with these "new" styles without actually knowing the source. like I love hailey bieber, but it's crazy that she is now getting credit for something asian girls created years ago🤣

And I think our collagen production naturally begins to slow around age 27? It's all so frustrating, but I'm working on accepting it! I am turning 43 pretty soon. This is my daily prayer: I am thankful to my body because it made my wonderful, healthy daughter from scratch only 3 years ago. I am thankful for my features, that I see reflected on my child every day: her radiant smile, her honest eyes, her chubby cheeks. Ladies, there is beauty in all of us. There is purpose. We are so blessed for being born women. Women are way more powerful than the system wants us to know. They want us worried and ignorant of our own power, so that we don't make good decisions. They want us distracted. Please, the bravest thing you can do is to love yourself. Then go empower other women so that they love themselves too. What this world needs is women loving one another, supporting and uplifting one another. We cannot do that when we are worried about our reflection in the mirror...

@@cristinagarcia6999Amen! You hit the nail on the head. I’m 61 (almost 62) now and just decided to be the best I can be as far as healthy and happy. I have also come to realize that people are so into themselves that they can’t look away from their mirror or camera monitor long enough to see how I look anyway. I just try to look my best self for myself. I love makeup but I just don’t care to spend as much time on it as I used to. I’m also trying to get rid of excess stuff in my life and start being more mindful of what I buy therefore I have unsubscribed from a lot of beauty and store haul channels. If I no longer appreciate, use, or love something I need it to leave my house and my life. Consumerism is consuming us and becoming a be all end all and that needs to stop. Sorry to ramble!

I remember the Black Fridays of old. My dad and my aunt would go out in sweatpants at 1am and come back glowing in the light of dawn, victorious, carrying huge TVs for practically nothing. They actually had great deals then. It was a whole event, and people would chit chat in the lines, camp out even, and there was just general excitement. If you lived through that time, its super apparent how underwhelming and scammy it is now.

Yeeeess!!!!! Thank you! I been saying this. Especially when I worked at Sephora, teen girls would come in just to buy something bc it's trending on TikTok. I would actually convince them not to buy it, unless it is something they truly wanted. I couldn't imagine wanting to copy everybody. I always valued my own sense of style, makeup looks, etc. It's lonely when my looks are "dated" but I'm in my 30's. I know what's flattering on me, and I appreciate timelessness over trends. Can't please everybody, and I'm not trying to. I don't need to compete with the youngsters bc I don't want to look like them. I want to look like me. I have clothes I bought second hand at a thrift shop since I was in middle school, and that's over 15 years ago. Still fits, and I still like them.

I’m always so happy when I find a video of a creator being honest about products and uses disclaimers like “look through your makeup collection for anything similar” or “don’t feel you have to buy this round of sale” instead of pushing to a purchase. If an influencer communicates overly happy, uses a lot of exclamation points and says something along the lines of “you have to” I will not watch another video of them. I want an honest review. It’s so rare to find an influencer who isn’t overly injected, and tucked, and filled And I’m not bagging on doing what one feels that one needs to look their best, But I agree that everybody is looking the same because there’s a strict standard of face that was dictated at some point and it’s one dimensional and subjective. Overly done, Big plush lips don’t look good on everybody’s face and overfilled cheeks aren’t always balanced. And much of this is to the standard that men set, based on exaggerations and doll like features. Anyway, I just love what you have to say about individual rather than a standard.
