Carpe Sus - Hog Hunting & More

Күн бұрын

Four nights of hunts coming away with beaver, boar, and coyotes. Ben came out one night as well. For these hunts, we are running ‪@Thermalhunting955‬ gear. He is running the Storm S3 thermal sight and I am running the Leap L6.
RIX Optics is a brand new company out of Richardson, Texas, offering both digital night vision and thermal optics. These scopes come with just about everything you need including batteries, charger, mounts, and of course, the scope itself. Check out their gear at #rixoptics www.rixoptics....
Brian's ammo was provided by Druid Hill Armory.

Brian, in the END of the video, I'm going over your YTD Numbers.. and I noticed your piglet numbers are low. 😂 This must be improved on. Watching those little explosions is a treat for me, and its sorely missed. Carpe Sus!

Seem like ben is set up for a longer hunt with that extended battery
@CarpeSus
@CarpeSus 6 ай бұрын
Ben, like some hunters, prefers to just go with a larger battery and not have to even consider power issues during the night. It is a little more physical weight, but a bit less mental weight. Since I am part of Rix, I try to use most of their stuff in a standard format such that when questions come up about use of the product, my experience isn't outside the typical norm for other users. If a lot of folks start running their Rix Optics on battery packs, then I will as well, but for right now, I can deal with changing a battery once a nice, if that. If I don't leave the scope on all night as I travel from property to property, then a single charge can last me multiple hunts, but I usually leave the scope on, in standby mode.

@@CarpeSus Someone among us subs must be able to help you. I suspect the issue is getting the cam & ground gear to work in real time vs say just record or something. Best for spotting & finding downed game. We gotta get this goin' for ya if we can help.

Great video. As always. Great that we saw both the Low-light and thermal. Do you recall what time dusk/sundown/full dark was in the fist beaver clip?
@CarpeSus
@CarpeSus 7 ай бұрын
Sundown was 6:02 PM. So by 6:30 or so, the light would be getting bad enough to not be legal if this was deer season. As for total darkness, I didn't get there. I noted that evening that the lighting was weird. Despite the sun setting behind the big corps dam, the lake was still being illuminated indirectly by cloud cover that kept our area more illuminated longer by reflecting the sun's rays from beyond the horizon. That is probably more of an answer than you wanted, but you can sort of see the effect in the video where I am shooting the 2nd beaver.

I am a agm fan, I prefer the rattler series. As I can use it as a monocular as well as a rifle scope. If you were to buy only one of the Rix models for coyote hunting, which would it be?
@CarpeSus

I would buy the Leap L6. For the package size, the Storm S3 is really cool, however.

Hi and a lot of technology attached to both your rifles. Is it really giving a major benefit compared to incremental benefits ?

What? Between thermal and digital NV? They each have strong points and weak points. For example, I am finding I really like digital NV for beaver hunting much more than using thermal. However, thermal is going to be superior to digital NV 90% (made up statistic) of the time on land for hunting. What I am doing is showcasing Rix products as a prostaffer. They all have some different capabilities and different price points. From the videos, you can get some idea of how they perform. If you have some more specific questions, let me know.

I've had multiple samples of 16" and 18", still have one 16" Lilja Wasp, my 17.6" Lilja Wasp, and my LaRue 18" Stealth 2.0 FDE complete rifle. I started off with my 16" AA barrel/bolt combo build in 2009, gave it to my brother maybe 5-6 years later. I found mv to overlap between them all. The 16" AA is probably the fastest of them all, but the differences are negligible. I got a 22" Lilja fluted as well, then a 12", then a 10.5", now working on an 8.5" PDW. The 12" has been my go-to for the past 6-7yrs. Put it together in 2017, suppressor out of jail in 2018. Have shot it suppressed exclusively ever since. 24" will do 123gr factory ammo at 2580-2640fps 22" 2550-2610fps 20" 2500-2550fps 18" 2450-2500fps 16" 2430-2480fps 14.5" 2350-2420fps 12" 2280-2350fps 10.5" 2180-2230fps 8.5" 2090-2130fps I shoot the 12" from 400-900yds pretty regularly. For all the close-range work, there isn't a huge difference between 12" - 18" Grendels. I can show you the numbers on paper, but from shooter perspective, it is negligible.
